I'll put it this way. Elton is no good - and it's taken six years to come to this point. Yes, agree.
I'll bet my left testicle Moore does not become a force at AFL level no matter how much promise he shows in an eight possession game v Frankston; and Chol is miles off the pace right now.
We are one Jack or Alex Rance injury away from disaster right now.
I would back an 18-year-old draftee to step up and perform ahead of Elton, Moore and Chol should Griffiths or Riewoldt go down.
Getting in a tall is critical.
A lot of people suggesting we wait til next year to grab two are the same people saying talls take time - say three/four years.
So we are going to waste this so-called great midfield talent we have now waiting for a crop of 2017 drafted talls to be right to go in 2020.
Richmond have never been great at getting the right mix of draftees.
2014 - Lennon, Gordon, Lloyd all mid-size forwards.
2015 - CEllis, Menadue, Drummond, Butler all similar types.
How are CEllis, Menadue and Drummond similar types? Just because they aren't tall?

If Jack or Griff go down, no kid picked at #27 is going to be able to adequately cover for them anyway, so that is moot. I'd rather we not try and outsmart ourselves by reaching for a KPP that isn't up to it when we can bring in actual quality tall(s) next year.

Do you actually think that waiting one season will waste our midfield talent? I think the opposite, we still have young guys we're trying to develop to play there. Cotchin will be our oldest at 27 at the end of 2017. And one extra season of development on a less talented kid probably won't make a positive difference in the long run.

Arguable best players at #27 or later.

2015: Marcus Adams
2014: Mitch McGovern/Caleb Daniel
2013: Ben Brown
2012: Lauchlan Hunter (Was Father/Son tho)/Tim Membrey
2011: Lachie Neale
2010: Luke Parker
2009: Jack Gunston/Mitch Duncan
2008: Dayne Beams/Dan Hannabery/Rory Sloane. (We took Post at #26, those 3 went at #29, #30 and #44 :'( )

You can still get some very good players if you are good enough.

Yes, But ... not very likely.

What I am saying is that I would rather us go safer than go for a high risk high reward type. Just my opinion. However, very good players can come late. And every year they do.

Might not get a star, but there is definite possibility of securing one.
2009
Mitch Duncan - 28
Jack Gunstan - 29
Max Gawn - 34
Ben Stratton - 46
Taylor Duryea - 69
2010
Luke Parker - 40
Alex Fasolo - 45
2011
Elliot Yeo - 30
Brad Hill - 33
Lachie Neale - 58
2012
Kamdyn Mcintosh -31
Mason Wood - 41
Tim Membrey - 46
Rory Atkins - 81
2013
Lewis Taylor - 28
Rory Lobb - 29
Jake Kolodashnij - 41
Allir Allir - 44
Orazio Fantasia 55
Sam Lloyd - 66

As said I would go the safer pick than the high risk, high reward type. And I'd go midfielder. But yes, there is lots of talent later in the draft.

Who is the big inside mid thats a bull , Has elite kicking and good pace

Thats the kid i want with #27

#50 something
The kid that turns into a Parker clone will do

On a Serious note though, I will start my annual rant about drafting
DARCY CAMERON , Cant believe this kid is yet to get a chance, We have Nankervis but still need another Mobile ruck with Maric & Hampson both on their last legs

PLEASE RICHMOND RECRUITING DEPT : DARCY CAMERON
I wonder why other clubs don't pull the trigger on this kid, so there must be a reason why.

Would look at Drew if he's still there at 27 as a big inside mid, 188cm, 4th in the TAC cup coaches votes and made a killer partnership with McLuggage towards the end of the year.

Thoughts on him Bishop?

Kicked at 59% in the TAC Cup this year- can just hack it out of the packs without looking. Averaged 22 disp, 13 contested possessions, seven tackles & seven clearances per game.

Inside ball winning is outstanding, but usage isn't.

Is a plodder too- very slow.

Bishop
How do you rate Harrison MacCreadie? Possibly GWS won't match a bid with the points needed for the other academy players (Setterfield, Perryman, Sproule and Mutch)

Will be a second round bid. They'll match Perryman, Setterfield & Macreadie I'm confident. 50/50 on Sproule and everything I'm hearing is that Mutch won't be matched.

wonder if x richards is on the radar as a dfa?

would require another player to be delisted though on our end. Unless the club is completely happy with Elton, Chol and Nank being back up kpf for Griff and Jack, but we are really weak in that area.

I think we should go for Sharrenberg:
The younger brother of Collingwood's Matthew. The 186cm, 80kg midfielder is a strong contested-ball winner through the midfield who tackles with intensity and uses the ball well by foot.

There's only so many of this type you want on a list and with the depth in this position this year I reckon that's where the sliders will come from. I could see there being plenty of good mids at our pick, so I expect us to take a flanker project type player; FJ lol.

Scharenberg or someone as good as him will be available at 56. So many draftable players this year, it would have been nice to have a couple more picks in the 20-50 range.

There will still be bargains very late, so I would be delisting all four of our uncontracteds and taking at least four kids in the draft.

I know there are knocks on Peppers kicking, but he reminds me of Dusty in every other aspect of his game.

Would make a great medium/defensive forward early in his career before becoming another explosive inside mid in a couple of years.

Tough ball winners with pace should be our target and he fits the bill

While I'm a believer in the "must be able to kick to play AFL" mantra, Clay Smith's final series did raise an eyebrow. Tough contested mid with a shit field kick but he played well in the forward line.

Do you really think so, or perhaps the lower overall quality of the draft means that more players are made to look good? Easier to look good when playing against a lower quality opponent, etc.

Bishop
What about someone like nathan voss from gippy power late in the draft or rookie draft? Tall, quick, athletic and can kick goals. Good skills too
