What is more ridiculous?
Choosing a point in time to scrap a system that is patently unfair, a time that may indeed disadvantage some teams in the short term?
or
Keeping said patently unfair system in place for an infinite period of time simply because you can't choose the right time to scrap it, affecting every team in the short, medium and long term?

I know which camp I am in.

Incidentally, why did the AFL decide to move away from the priority recruiting zone model 20 years ago again? That's right, because it was clearly advantaging some teams over others. Some zones produce more players, and better quality players, more often. Why is that all of a sudden not the case?

The sooner the AFL gets to having a completely unbiased, uncompromised draft the better
Do you really believe that will ever happen:rolleyes:. It is the AFL we are talking about here!! They have form.

Heard anything about Matt Hanson from Werribee getting a spot? Wouldn't mind North picking him up in the rookie draft, think his game could convert to AFL level.
Unfortunately my source at Werribee left a couple of months ago. At that point in time he said that North had small interest in the rookie draft but nothing else from what he could tell.

That may have changed though.

i have heard a rumor that every list manager will make a statement similar to this later tonight-

"we are extremely happy with how the draft panned out for us"

And..
We can't believe he was still there with our xx selection.

"We would have picked him at pick 1!"

"We would have picked him at pick 1!"

"Outside player with good pace'' - a receiver, won't go in.

"He's a real athlete'' - played mostly basketball or soccer. No idea about footy.

"Quick hands/great vision/has footy smarts'' - slow.

"We can't believe we got him at pick 42'' - We haven't seen the X-rays or spoken to his parole officer.

"He's an elusive type'' - absolutely terrified.

"Great goal sense'' - never handballed in his life.

"He's a burst player'' - has only one burst, no endurance.

"Has skills, needs to work on his fitness'' - will be a blimp before the season's end.

"He has a great upside'' - he has even greater downside.

"Tremendous work ethic and a great competitor'' - no skills.

"Solid citizen, from a good family'' - private schoolboy.

"Natural forward'' - never tackled, shepherded or manned up.

"Raking left-foot kick'' - a dud on his right.

"Suited to a tagging role'' - can't play.

"He will add to our depth'' - can't play.

"He's a bit of a punt, but we needed a third ruckman'' - can't play.

Jye Bolton, Jake Barrett, Matt Guelfi (inside and outside mid-fielder), Ben Jarman, Juhdan Dundon (left foot halfback flanker), Mitch Hinge (halfback flanker), Tom Williamson (half back flanker/pocket) Sean Darcy (project ruck man 201cm and good tap ruck man)

Please :)

Thankyou, made me laugh out loud with no one else around

Sam McClarty as of Saturday last week had spoken to 15 clubs.

Not a rumour.

you're in the wrong place then, you need the "2016 draft facts" thread.
Well I guess I wasnt there when he interviewed and I didnt keep a tally so theres a chance its inaccurate

you do realize the post was in jest? i'm getting terribly bored waiting for tonight.:)
yeah I do. It's all good. I, too was being a little jocular (as much as I can be when I'm stuck at work until mid-way through the draft)

Hell, Im just hoping for Brodie... If that happens, screw the rest. :D

Is there a stream online anywhere to watch the draft?
Think AFL Live (it's definitely on the watchafl.afl.com.au site for overseas viewers, AFL Live should be the same content).
