Choosing a point in time to scrap a system that is patently unfair, a time that may indeed disadvantage some teams in the short term?

Keeping said patently unfair system in place for an infinite period of time simply because you can't choose the right time to scrap it, affecting every team in the short, medium and long term?
I know which camp I am in.
Incidentally, why did the AFL decide to move away from the priority recruiting zone model 20 years ago again? That's right, because it was clearly advantaging some teams over others. Some zones produce more players, and better quality players, more often. Why is that all of a sudden not the case?
The sooner the AFL gets to having a completely unbiased, uncompromised draft the better
