Analysis 2016 Fixture

The club is a little bit in transition. I hope they have a plan that plays Suban, de Boer, Mzungu early. Then mid year, opportunity comes for Weller, Apeness, Morabito etc. End of the year pick the best available.

I hope we start the other way, with Weller, Blakely etc getting a game early and once they tire 5-10 rounds in, they get a rest and Suban, de Boer etc come in and play for 5 weeks. Then who ever is playing better can get a game.

Genuine question - do you think the Dockers will take the same approach as last year and have a heavy pre season in order to bank early wins?

It worked spectacularly in a sense that in gave you an unassailable lead, top spot and 2 home finals.
However, its also no secret Fremantle weren't nearly as effective in the 2n'd half of the season..

It was a bold tactic, will be interesting to see if it is used again to negotiate somewhat of a difficult opening month.
I hope so. The draw opens up for us after round 8. Genuine chance of going 14-0 leading into finals. If we can bag at least 4 wins in the first 8 rounds, look out!

I hope not, or if they do I hope it is modified - perhaps midway between last year and the previous.

Agree it gave us a flying start to the year, and possibly secured us a minor premiership, but for me the drop off from the midpoint of the season was a real concern. Early in the year we were able to dominate games because I think we were fitter than opposition, therefore able to outrun them and clear space. As the competition built to match fitness and we maybe tired a little, we were unable to break to space and reverted to slowing the game down and making it more defensive.

Granted we copped some inopportune injuries this year, but that is always a possibility and we need to be prepared to play our best football at the back end of the year, not the start.

Hopefully the fitness staff learned from this year and we can tweak the program a little.

Don't think either Apeness or Morabito are likely to be ready early in the season, and others such as Irish will benefit by early wafl time. It will also be a lot easier for the established older heads to slot in at the pointy end of the season if called on at short notice.

Sorry to intrude

I think you guys have a great draw. Rather reminiscent of our draw this year i.e. lots of travel (we went to Queensland x2 , Tasmania and Darwin) but relatively easy double-ups . Dockers also have fewer 6 day breaks than we do (and no back-to-back ones ). To get that draw after making a prelim , is great for the dockers!

I don't think the difference in our fixtures is quite as stark as the AFL website ranks them (the video review gave the dockers an A+, whilst giving us a C+!), but I still feel like you got an easier draw, despite the travel . I'll concede that we got an easier draw this year , but that's because we finished 9th last year (well outside the top 6). On another note , it feels like Adelaide/Port have essentially swapped fixtures too.

Anyway, I genuinely wish you well for next year. Pav deserves a premiership .

can see us playing gws in Sydney for the 1st time, wouldn't mind making the road trip up from melb.
we will definitely get hawks in Launceston as they will make there 1 trip a year to perth to face west coast in a grand final rematch
we will get a match in either gold coast/Brisbane or Darwin
we will get 5 games in melb, 2 at the G, 3 at Etihad
and a match against Adelaide as one of our double ups
and for good measure our yearly trip to geelong

which leaves us with 12 games at home
twice against west coast
the other teams to come to perth
norf, Sydney, gold coast/Brisbane, Essendon, carlton, port, Melbourne, Richmond, Adelaide and bulldogs

Our double ups will be
Adelaide
Norf
Bulldogs
Essendon
West Coast

Overall my feelings is this will be about the fairest of draws we get and yet still feels like we are being shafted

going back to my post from before the fixture was released my predictions are fairly close
1 trip to Launceston
I was wrong about getting 1 trip to gold coast/Brisbane or Darwin, we got all 3
I was wrong about the trip to geelong
and the double ups I picked 3/5 correctly

I should be on the fixture making team I can almost pick what they do :P

Yep.

It is almost like you guys concede the game before it even starts.
2016 will be different. Hale and Guerra will give us some inside game plan info and we'll win:) Harley Bennell will tear you a new one and the boys will fly home singing the club song. Oh yeah! That night I'm off to see Iron Maiden, one of the best bands on the planet do their stuff at Perth Arena. Yep should be a great feel good day. Looking forward to May 14 2016 is me. :D

Is anyone flying over for our only game at the MCG? Been thinking about going over for it to visit mates at the same time.
I live in Melbourne so I'll be there!

Awesome Allikat! I'll bookmark that. You could be in for a pleasant surprise!
Now to decide if I want to spend my birthday being miserable in Tasmania or not.
