How many premo mids are you guys starting with you reckon? Usually I like to grab the bare minimum, but with the value in some fallen stars there's a lot to choose from in the 450-520k range.

I personally prefer to keep some spots open for the guys having break out years or who start slow but amp it up mid season.

Thinking 4 for me, but at the moment I have 5 (7 if you include Libba and JOM!)

5 plus crouch and libba atm

I like Judas (aka D.Beams)

JPK

and Armitage

my fear with Gray is with a fit wines, Westhoff being released further up the ground, Polec back that the points and role spread for Gray may change for the better for Port but non gain for Super Coach Gray
The same could be said about all those guys you've just mentioned though.
Gray has the runs on the board, I think I'll start with him.

Probably five might be six if I don't go with a midpricer. All depends on the Nab Cup at this stage.

Speaking of POD's, any love for the Bont? Priced at 557k

Could breakout to an 110+ avg, the man is a freak.

Can handle the tag & doesn't waste a possession, CD love him.
Won't be doing pre season until after the break, had a hip cleanout. If he had a full preseason I'd 100% pick him. He's gonna average 120+ sooner rather than later. But I don't like picking players who haven't had a full preseason.

I'm really, really tempted to pull the trigger..

Can't have Bont and Libba now that Bont is MID only IMO.
Even if he averages more than Libba he is 200k dearer.

No difference to the days of having Pendles & Swan as MID only.
He certainly has a bigger ceiling than Wines/Parker IMO.

Difference was you had 2 top 10 Mids in a team playing for flags.

Dogs aren't Collingwood of 5 years ago and neither a recovering Libba or 3rd year Bont are guaranteed top 10 mids come seasons end. A lot more risk carrying the two of them.

Big call on the Bont >Wines and Parker.
I'd have it Wines>Parker>Bont.

Anyone looking at Polec for $300k?
Too risky plus I can see his role change. Was super important in 2014 but Port gave been worked out. He wont get the space every again and only averaged 80s. Cant see him going 100+.

I would have thought Libba/Crouch/O'Meara would be better options..
They are. Just thought I'd add another ball magnet to that 300k group.

Putting my Carlton hat on here. Is else anyone considering Gibbs this year? He averaged 106 from 22 games in 2014 playing that Deledio Mid & HF role winning the Blues B&F. Injury riddled 2015 and mayhem under MM saw him average only 82 in the 1st half of the year before succumbing to injury. Fully fit now, 26 years old and something to prove, could be a bargain priced mid premo priced at only 82ppg for 2016. I'll be interested to see what role Bolton has in mind for him for 2016 during the NAB. Watch this space.

I've got no doubt he will go between 100-105, but I also think Libba and Crouch will do the same but for 100k or so less. He's just an awkward price.

Libba and Crouch. Two young guys who thrive on contested footy.
The other one they call Squibbs.
Hate to be so blunt but he's not made for SC.

If he had DPP he'd be in my team already but as a pure mid he offers little upside.

I'll throw another name out there. D Swallow, mid only unfortunately, awkwardly priced at about 400K, but a jet. Suns have a heap of midfield guns coming back from injury riddled year, any love out there?

I do like D. Swallow!
But can't see myself getting him being a MID only.
Any DPP & I'd be looking at him but there's not unfortunately.
Also with B. Crouch & Libba (and JOM) all less than $400K it's an easier choice for me :thumbsu:

Gibbs would be perfect for SC if/when he's a DPP. D/M or M/F. He's averaged 107, 103, 105, 106 & 95+ 2 times.

I was surprised he wasn't given M/F DP in 2015 to be honest. He's played back and forward enough over his career to be a regular DPP since he's hardly ever played a full season as a mid only.

D Swallow was awesome in 2014. He averaged 110+ for a lot of that year, but dropped off a bit in the last 1/3rd of the season, but that probably had more to do with GAJ getting injured around the same time and GCS as a team struggling to win a game without the great man. In a full strength GC midfield and if fully fit DSwallow is capable of a 110+ average. 400k is quite a juicy price, Crouch, Libba & JOM's cheaper prices withstanding.

Rd1 starting midfield of GAJ, Rocky, Jelwood, D Swallow, Gibbs, Libba, JOM & B Crouch would be a ballsy high risk high reward move...

Wow better averages than I thought.

I don't think i would ever touch him as I have a rule of only picking guys who I rate but as a DPP he could be very serviceable to a team.
Will be very interesting to see what Bolton does with certain players and how his game plan effects their SC scores.

Expect a very Hawthorn keepsies offsies type game plan. Lots of chip scab points across half back. Gibbs could well be part of that.
A similar role to when he played his best footy.

If I were Bolton I'd play Gibbs on the HBF, basically Yarran's role. Gibbs is a good user by foot and distributes well. Like you said, racks up the possies when he's allowed to chip scab. Unlike Yarran I don't think teams will bother to put the hard defensive forward tag on him.

So what was it that Malthouse did that made Gibbs not play & score as well?

Whatever Gibbs role was in 2014 & how he was playing against the Cats when he kicked 4 goals I think in a game against us with 25-30 touches get him back to that! :D
