THE AFL has admitted to making a blunder in this year’s biggest trade — Jaeger O’Meara to Hawthorn.

Confusion surrounded the blockbuster deal until the AFL clarified on Tuesday that the Hawks had been allowed to part with their first two selections in next year’s draft.

The best bit of the whole thing is that by playing Gold Coast, Port will lose any benefit they think they will get from the exposure.
Chinese interest are not in Pt Adelaide - but they have plenty of interest in the Gold Coast!!
Nice of Port to help GC out though...

Gold Coast had to lose 2 home games anyway because of the Commwealth Games - its $600k for playing away when they would have had to do it for nothing anyhow

They do not make mistakes. The original wording was put there to guard against non Victorian teams trying to cheat. But when it is to the benefit of a Victorian team, wording get misinterpreted so they can change the outcome. Point in question: When Essendon got penalised 2 first and 2 second round picks for doping, they complained that that would stop them from acquiring a FS. So the VFL said " Sorry, we forgot about that. You can have one first round back for that."
P.S.- The action in the quoted words may not have happened exactly as stated, but the end result is correct.

So we nullify the trade and open up another day of trading as this was the AFL's error.

And seeing that Carlton have said that a 1st and 2nd would get Gibbs done after all we can just do that now. Or would it be back to 2 firsts?

Well, Hawthorn broke the rules so they should be penalised. Doesn't matter that the AFL screwed up, Hawthorn knew or should have known what they were doing. GCS for that matter, too.

Won't happen of course, just saying.

The other clubs need to raise absolute hell about this - on top of Geelong's dodgy deal.

OK forget about Essendon getting pick 1 and all the other stuff, that's just policy decisions that people disagree with.

This and the Geelong deal are a whole new level of stuff up, of Biblical proportions. The other clubs should be ropable, and public, about this. This is just Not On.
