McGrath is a good player. But there was no obvious number 1 at the time so it's not surprising that McGrath isn't a dominant player. He's arguably the 2nd best player of the top 10 behind McCluggage so it's not a horrible pick.

And if you'd said to Essendon they would get McGrath, Ridley and Draper from this draft they would've been very happy with that.

+Setterfield, which i'm quite happy with.

Taranto is much better.

Yes he is but its not a "Tambling over Buddy" type howler like some would have you believe.

Not sure where Taranto would fit in our team right now regardless.

if we got/had Taranto, we'd either not have recruited Setterfield or he's depth on that front.

He's at the point where he gets into the AA team just by name. No way he was among the best defenders this year.

Yes…because of the name. If I’m a neutral and I haven’t watched much of other teams I’m voting Stewart (4x AA must be good) in over Wilkie (never heard of him before this year).

No, I said he’s gotten to the point where he makes it in by name now. His first 4 he was definitely one of the 6 best defenders in the league. Not this year.

Put every AFL player in a pool and draft from scratch Larkey would go top 5, Stewart top 20. Stewart a very very good footballer but Nick Larkey is a generational talent in a position that is hard to find.

i am hoping we model Nick Bryan off him.
Similarly bean pole-ish, but with good footy smarts.

Massive. It’s why young rucks shouldn’t be judged in their early years. He is going to command a huge pay rise next year.

On footballing ability, yes Stewart is the better footballer.

Happy for this to be an unpopular opinion but Larkey is the harder footballer to find I’d take him 1st overall.
