Can someone explain the hype over bonar and the role he would play for us if we drafted him. Watching his highlights he was decent at the contest but he mainly played inside role( which we have in spades with Steele Armo Koby etc.) And when disposing of the ball many said he has a very good kick yet he resorted to handballing most of the time so I’m not sure where they have got this info. When he did kick it there was nothing special about it. I will admit he is built like a brick and his athletism is very tempting but I can’t seeing playing mid and if we move him forward then he takes the spot of Bruce membrey or battle . Someone explain wher he plays for us and this so called c factor he has

I

from what I’m told would be extremely unlikely we grab two mids. If cerra is somehow there we will definitely take him over Clark and then will probs just pick best available which will probably be Nick Coffield (as staff rate him high and is versatile and fills a need cerra doesnt) or a high slider(eg. Steph, the three etc.) . If we address the need for bringing in a pure mid and coff or another big slider isn’t there then that’s when talks regarding bonar and Murphy come in but doubt Clark and cerra will both be taken at 7n8. If cerra and brayshaw there then im not sure we could resist taking a mid then just pick best available in another mid but I don’t think staff have considered that yet.also source didn’t mention fogs but at the same time definitely wouldn’t rule him out especially if it’s true we are into him(what joirnos saying)

:thumbsu::thumbsu:

I'd be rapt with Cerra/Brayshaw and Coffield which is a realistic chance especially of North go for Stephenson or Murphy

Realistically, a combination of:

One of: Cerra/Clark/Brayshaw
&
One of: Bonar/Coffield/Murphy

Perfect (realistic) scenario is Cerra & Coffield imo

If Stephenson is available and we take Murphy I'll be extremely disappointed and praying like hell we didn't bypass a future star for another rubbish "bolter".

Murphy's stocks have risen most while there is no footy being played. That scares me.

I'll back the bloke if we take him but until then gee wiz.

Yeah I’ll be very underwhelmed if we go Murphy.

Has Bishop answered this question? Because no one seems to know the answer. IF we don't take him, it looks like Adelaide at 12 are the next ones in play after us. It's quite the gap, can't be that perfect.

Coffield to Collingwood talk seems to have died right off.
That's the tricky part with sliders, if someone's available at your pick that you just don't expect you have to make a decision whether to take them or stay the course. Daniel Rich is a great example, he was talked about as a possible #1 pick in his draft year prior to Watts being the vogue, Eagles apparently were apparently tossing up between him and Natanui. Freo were a lock to take him at 3. Then Rich copped a hamstring injury in the WAFL grand final and had to sit out much of the draft testing. Hill tested through the roof and Freo took him at four. Port grabbed the local boy in Hartlett. Essendon went tall with Hurley. Carlton took whoever Essendon wasn't going to take out of Hurley & Yarran.

And suddenly the possible #1 pick is snapped up by Brisbane at pick 7. Joel Selwood and Brodie Grundy slid in similar fashion

Bonar is very different to what we already have. He’s an inside bull that can go forward & take a contested mark. None of Steele, Dunstan, Armo, Steven, etc can do that. Acres is the closest thing we have to Bonar cos he can go forward & take a contested mark however Acres is more an outside mid/winger whereas Bonar is more like Fyfe being a bull that is also very agile.

Due to Bonar being injured for the best part of two years he’s spent considerable time in the gym & developed a mans physique. He could quite easily start in the forward line round 1 next year & develop into a mid-fwd from there. His career arc could conceivably be similar to Dangerfield.

Whilst I don't disagree that Bonar will be an inside bull/forward Blake is also a bull just doesn't get the opporutnity play inside as much, I mean have you seen people try and tackle him.

Yup but he’s been played as an outside mid. Last season he averaged 14.8 contested & 5.9 uncontested possessions. It doesn’t get much more outside than that.

Being a mid is far from able to win contest, his inside game is not impressive enough from the little footage there is, (any big kid can do it at that level) and his kicking is just bombing long. Nothing special, I serious don't see why he is rated so high.

I can’t understand the Hunter Clark talk. As far as needs go, he’s an inside mid that misses too many targets by foot. Don’t we have plenty of those guys?

I think you’d find with Clark that if we drafted him we’d look for him to play more outside than he has this year (which he has the skills to do) and utilise his kicking more.
Seb Ross was considered an inside leaning mid for many years but look at him this year...only 33% of his possession was contested.
Some players really do have the the ability to play any midfield role the team requires, and I believe Clark could do that.
While we currently may be stacked with insiders, Armitage is close to the end and Stevens is depth at best probably as early as next season.

Likely because your assessment of his contested game & kicking skills is incorrect. There is good reason why he is rated so high, as you will see when he’s selected in the middle of the first round & despite hardly playing a game of footy over the past two years.

Joking surely? He's a beautiful kick off both feet and plays a mix of inside and outside. Will be a star.

He’s physically and athletically one of the most unique footballers you’ll see. Regardless of how you rate his limited football exposure, clubs will love what he could achieve and therefore most will rate him anywhere between say 6-15.

Then why isn't he in the mix for pick 1 when he has all these other terrific attributes and posted similar or better numbers than all those expected to go top 5?

Surely all those recruiting for the clubs have seen these highlights vids as well?

Sloane, Dangerfield, Parker, Merrett, Fyfe. Not every great player gets picked at very top of draft. And again, recruiters don’t solely choose players on what they have achieved so far, it’s as much to do with what they believe the players could achieve in AFL footy.

*pokes head above the parapet*

So we’re at Clark and Bonar now?

Ok then, back to work.
