Has huge upside. Kicking is hit and miss at times, but his action is sound (like him more of his non preferred left) Since putting him back through the middle, has racked up some strong numbers and I really like his type of aggression. Would be great if we had a mid 1st round pick

He plays like a Sydney Swans midfielder.

Like a man.

Can see Hunter Clarke rocketing up the draft boards, 186cm inside mid that can really win the footy and kick off both feet to a very high standard, two years ago as a 16yo, people were predicting he would go pick 1 in his draft year, hasn't had the year he would have wanted, but really coming home with it.

Stats wise he has had a big month, averaging 29 disposals, 9 tackles and booted 5 goals. Afl Draft Central rate his performances highly. He could easily shoot up with a big finish by the sounds of it.
I thought he lacked agility, pepertually running in straight lines while in possession. I'm sure he could bust through a few tackles, but he probably shouldn't be so tight through the hips given his build.

Backend Roughies: Stefan Giro
Think it might be a draft night full of regret if we wind up going for Giro late

Good year to get a 10-30 pick if you need a KPD. 5 in that range and Sam Taylor just missed too. Terrible year if you need a KPF.

PS: Give me 2018 Top 10 Picks. I want 2018 Top 10 Picks....Gimme them NOW.

Great effort - should start a Draft top 10 thread!

Just watched highlights for the first time of Rayner, Dow and Davies-Uniacke. Haven't seen any of Cerra yet, but will get to him.

So far Rayner seems far and away the best of the three. Dow was a touch slow for mind, was being gained on just about every run he had, and didn't have the power in his kicking I was expecting, max distance looked like about 45m. Davies-Uniacke looked good, clean below his knees for a guy his size is good and a high workrate. Although he looked for the handball more often than a kick which might not be what we want. Cripps' is already a handball first guy, having two in the one midfield might hamper us. Rayner was the only one of the 3 I think that had genuine star ability. Powerful and quick. Didn't see a negative, again it was just highlights but from what I saw he seemed the best by some distance.

If Brisbane and the Suns pass on him they're crazy, and if they are crazy I very much want. Could have a similar career path to Dangerfield, start off in the forward-line essentially 80-20 for his first year or two whilst he builds his tank, then work him more in the mids.

Is that ranking as best available or is under the impression that the QLD clubs will pass on Rayner for personal reasons?

I'm not entirely sure.

I think GC don't need a Rayner type as they draft a medium midfield/forward type last year in Ainsworth and Brisbane have been making it a focus to draft Vic Country guys as opposed to Vic metro, so I think a mixture of factors went into his thinking.

A quick look at the GC board told me they're after LDU and are hoping Bris don't take him, if they do they'll be happy with Dow.

To get the opinions of more the patient draft watchers as opposed to the more impatient week to week type fans.

Would it be interesting to try to take the big bust/reward gamble this year with our Pick 3?

Take a team with big ambition and immediate NEED/HOPE for a good year next year and try to take advantage of them. I've always thought that has been a Hawthorn blueprint (to identify Clubs to take advantage of at the right time). Let's say we identify that Club as Collingwood.

I'm usually not a buyer of the oft used "wow, look at next years draft crop" spiel, but it seems patently obvious that next years top end picks look absolutely outstanding compared to most years and especially this years. So Pick 3 next year is worth a lot more than Pick 3 this year.

Sooooo.....what would we think about trading Pick 3 to Collingwood( or North) for their 1st rounder next year. It is a risk/reward type deal for both sides of the deal, but it might be a chance to take advantage of a "needy" Club who might think they can finish higher than they might.

The grand plan (for a hopefully patient club that has built a beautiful base so far...us) is to trade Gibbs for some draft presence this year, absorb another year of a lowish ladder position next year and hopefully hit the 2018 draft with 2 Top 5'ish picks who project to be really elite.

Say we trade Pick 3 to a Collingwood or a North who NEED and THINK they will finish higher but are a big chance not to, for their 2018 first. If the gamble pays big divs we swap Pick 3 this year for a Top 5 Pick next year. If it pays medium divs we swap Pick 3 this year for Pick 5-8 next year. If Pies or North do a Richmond like recovery we are stuffed lol.

But my theory is that a Pick 8 next year looks equivalent to a Pick 3 this year. So we wouldn't lose much there. But if the Pies or North fail and we get 2 Top 5'ers next year....it could be Premiership making.

That ended up a longer thought bubble than i envisaged. Anyone think it makes sense?

Bit of both, Knightmare, I believe, tries to think from each clubs perspective as to who they'd pick. Seems to be strongly rumored amongst all the draft watchers that Rayner has made a point of not wanting to go to QLD.

Bishop is a prominent poster on the draft board.

He watches lots of junior footy and posts extensive write ups of potential draftees.

I like him; he doesn't follow the consensus and makes his own judgements. Seems to pick up on minor traits that others miss. Plus I think he rated SPS at #1 at one point last year and was bullish on Fisher so I assume he is super accurate. :p
Interesting. How did he rate williamson?

Interesting. How did he rate williamson?

Had him ranked outside the top 50 but noted that he'd be good value late in the draft.

Pretty spot on with his assessment - talked up skills and agility, with the major detraction being he's very outside. Interesting given Tom showed a hard edge at times this year.

Not so much a hard core draft watcher but definitely a believer in the long game for sustained assaults at the ultimate prize .
It follows that ladder position next season isn't the be all and end all .
Also subscribe to the theory that each season throws up desperate clubs that may provide opportunity for the astute .
All reports are that the 2017 and 2018 drafts are chalk and cheese .
If Silvagni and his team believe they can engineer a deal where we spend a penny to make 10 pound I'd have no problem with it at all .

Great list of players Terry, thought I would chime in

This is how I would currently rate the draftees, in groups with no particular order

  1. Dow, Cerra, Rayner, Constable, Brayshaw
  2. Brander, LDU, Naughton, D Fogarty, Higgins
  3. Stephenson, Coffield, Clark, O'Brien, Garner
  4. Spargo, Ling, L. Forgarty, Allen, Ballendon
Possible late charge from Bonar and or Roughsedge

With more games to come, trade period and the combine, have no doubt that the following will change:

  1. Dow
  2. Cerra
  3. Constable
  4. Rayner
  5. Brayshaw
  6. LDU
  7. D. Forgarty
  8. Higgins
  9. Brander
  10. Naughton
  11. Stephenson
  12. Clark
  13. Coffield
  14. Spargo
  15. O'Brien
  16. Garner
  17. L. Forgarty
  18. Ballendon
  19. Allen
  20. Ling
  21. Hayes
  22. Stoddart
  23. Naish
  24. Murphy
  25. Bailey

Guys of interest later in the draft Bonar, Roughsedge, Hayden, Dixon, B. Miller, Banfield, Handley

Rayner's field kicking is a massive concern for mine. Not to mention his 11 beep test score.

I'm still in favour of trading pick 3 or down grading for two first rounders.
