100% with you there. No-one in the top 5 looks like someone who is worthy of pick 3 to me.The uncertainty of this draft is why it would have been a perfect year to move the pick for a young established star.

I did like the post, I'm just saving the three or four gullible souls on here who think they'd run a horrible beep test.Has anyone warned Jimmae that you're not supposed to let facts get in the way of a good story?
Heaps of quality inside mids, some underrated running types, some mature types that suit our needs and some decent KPs if we want to cut deeper into our depth.I really dont like this draft

No standouts means its a lottery.. as you say many project well but i dont want to take the gamble. Give me Kelly for 3 pleaseI think it's a beauty. Very even and hard to pick. No stand outs doesn't make it poor

Last year I ranked them:
McCluggage, McGrath, Bowes, Taranto, Brodie, SPS, Scrimshaw, Perryman, English, Ainsworth
At the moment I have Rayner at 1 - He'd be the only person I'd throw in there & that'd be ahead of Ainsworth. I really liked what the others bring. There wasn't as much question marks on the 2016 top 10s, whereas this year there is no "perfect" standout who you can argue doesn't have a lot of weaknesses.

Haha yeah I knew I'd get a few bites with that remark. What I mean is, the draft has quite a few good players in it this year, but the top 5 quality has been better in other years, so I'd actually prefer to get a Bonafide player worthy of Pick 3 like Kelly. Given that we will now start to go up the ladder and will not be getting picks in the 1 - 5 range (I hope) I'd rather get Kelly than take a punt on one of Rayner, LDU, Cerra, Dow, Brander etc.Hahaha. Top 5 not worth pick 3. I tell ya who we'll get - the kid we think is best, unless he's draft at 1 or 2. Ergo pick 3. Very few look "worth it" until they actually develop into what they eventually become.
That reminds me of Shifter Sheehan's commentary at the draft where he's always "surprised someone didn't go earlier" or "love this pick". By his comments he'd have 40 players in the top 20.
The draft is the draft. A pick doesn't guarantee anything. But there will be good players picked, and most likely early, and hopefully be us.

This is how Bishop sees things right now.
Putting the 2016 & 17 draft together, he has one of this years draftees included. Just one.
Dunno about that, it looks to me like there are a lot of very good players but no stand outs. Clubs will have their job cut out for them finding that diamond.I think it's a beauty. Very even and hard to pick. No stand outs doesn't make it poor
Stephenson looks to me like he could have plenty of upside, but I'd rather use Pick 3 on getting Kelly. It's not eye catching is it.
Who's Bishop? Having Ainsworth at 10 seems a bit strange.

Bishop is a prominent poster on the draft board.
He watches lots of junior footy and posts extensive write ups of potential draftees.
I like him; he doesn't follow the consensus and makes his own judgements. Seems to pick up on minor traits that others miss. Plus I think he rated SPS at #1 at one point last year and was bullish on Fisher so I assume he is super accurate.![]()
That's my opinion. Every year we here comments about depth or draft or it falls away etc. Last year the consistent comment was that it fell away after about 30. Yet we picked Williamson Kerr & Polson then Lebois & ASOS.
I am yet to see someone even nail the Top 10 of a year let alone what comes later. Every year very good players are picked in the 40's 50's and later. This year will be no different. For a lot of kids until they get into the AFL system we don't really know. SOS will still bring in another 10-12 NEW players to the club. Some may be trades but most will be picks. I am sure SOS will see some gold later in the draft
