Don't think Brisbane would trade pick 1, think Dow is there man and they already have two more picks inside the top 20, GCS has me a little concerned, Saints would love to get Rayner, would help them get over passing on Petracca.
My preferred choice is we use pick 3 in a trade for Jelly, so in that case it wouldn't really matter, but if we did miss out on Jelly, Rayner would be a nice consolation prize, I have heard SOS rates Rayner very highly.

Bit of a bittersweet situation if we didn't get Kelly and Rayner's available at pick 3 and he was rated the best player i guess we'd have to take him?

On one hand it would be considered a 'steal' but we need pure midfielders so badly and Rayner doesn't fix that.

Paddy Dow has the biggest ceiling of any other current projected Top 5 players IMO, possibly with the exception of Rayner.

Think I saw someone said he was pretty bottom-aged, and I think he's got a nice balance between his inside and outside game. Nice awareness on the inside too.

EDIT: If we don't end up Josh Kelly, this is the closest thing we'll get: GUN

Poor set shot. Delist. Nah. The kid looks good. Bit of the blind handballs, and a solid kick. Ok

Think when your a big Victorian club drafting at the premium end of the draft, you take best available, Rayner would help us forward of center, which is also a massive need for us anyways.
Think he has the tools needed to become an elite level big bodied goal kicking forward/mid, with explosive pace and that's a piece our list doesn't really have yet either.

TBH we are probably better off getting Kelly in two years time, then now. That way we keep our high picks and build a stacked list of elite young talent, then add Kelly when we are ready to start playing finals.

Think Zorko but better

He did not look AFL standard when I watched him, interesting to see how he develops.

Was that when he was playing in defence?

This is from a few weeks ago...

"ETHAN PENRITH | DEF/FWD | 24/10/1999 | 179CM | 76KG
In a break from his usual defensive role, Penrith was utilised as a defensive forward and it was probably the best I’ve seen him play this year. His pressure in the forward line was superb – he was like a heat seeking missile when anyone had the ball in his vicinity – laying a number of crunching tackles in the forward half. His ball handling was also much improved. He has the habit of juggling the footy when collecting at speed, but he was largely very clean on Saturday and demonstrated elite speed and agility. A sprayed set shot was a letdown, but with more experience, he definitely has considerable scope in the role. He was moved back in the last quarter to go head to head with the livewire Jesse Firebrace in an entertaining match up, and largely had the better of him. He’ll no doubt be filthy it was him that won the game."

It was down back, still does not change his fumble hands and poor kicking skills. He was always solid in attack on the ball, just shocking when he got near it.

If he seriously has improved, that will be great for the Blues.

I've only seen the Vic Metro footage so I don't know too much about him. I just want us to take full advantage of this academy.

Anyone else concerned that the AFL might give either or both of Brisbane and GC a PP?

No considering that 4 wins was the previous trigger and both have more than that + academies, improving list for the Lions (who were favorites going into the last rd) and multiple 1st rd picks for the Suns.

I would be more concerned about band 1 compensation for Rockliff if he leaves but no way he becomes a top 5-10 paid player in the league (iirc thats the kind of payment required for band 1 to be handed out)

So with Lions shopping around pick #1, does that leave it ripe for the plucking by Saints for #7 and #8 and for them to steal Raynor out from under our noses?

I can't see that coming about somehow.
Saints will likely look at trading one or both of those picks out, for players.

Rayner seems to be the likely fit for us right now, but who knows.
Even that can change and then we may not have the pick #3 come the ND.

Haven't seen any of these kids play a single minute of footy

That said , 100% team Raynor !

The draft is the AFL equivalent of Olympic Diving - after four dives we are all instant experts.

Like you I haven't seen any of these kids play but am on-board with you that Raynor is the next Chris judd.

We all know how the afl manipulates compo picks. Especially as the QLD teams are struggling.

Selwood done his knee.
I remember when we had pick one it was the "Super" 3 in Gumby, Hansen and Gibbs we had to choose from with Lueneburger just outside of them. It was talked up as the best draft ever and I think it was Pagan who said Selwood was in the mix for pick one and I lost my shit. I couldn't believe we were looking outside those top players for someone who had just done a knee and not mentioned as a pick 1 candidate before that.

I'm not sure why I brought this up I just felt like telling a story
And a very nice one it was!

Mark my word, If Rocky leaves, the Lions will get band 1

Will be interesting to see if SOS continues with the types of players he has targeted in the last 2 years. Midfield types that are quick, agile and elite/solid by foot.

While the conversation around disposal by foot can vary dramatically, sure all have you have differing opinions with what you have viewed either live, footage or both

The following is purely based around 20M sprints, to date, for players that I have noticed people are interested in with our first pick

NAME 20M SPRINT
DOW 2.916
LDU 2.980
RAYNER 2.982
STEPHENSON 3.007
CONSTABLE 3.090
CERRA NO DATA (Would rate him below the top 3)
