I dunno mate, you're telling me.

Where has he said this?

Really? I don't remember reading that at all. Was it on the forum?

Early in the year he was the most common no.1 pick but has slid considerably. I wonder if he will come into calculations internally.

Although given the choice between Fogarty and Rayner you'd have to pick Rayner, no? Local, so no go home factor, better season playing a similar role and (so far) rated as the better overall player.

With all the talk on this board, of our list desperately needing midfielders, yet so many completely contradict that, by saying Rayner is the man for us.

Don't get me wrong, Rayner is a beast and I would be more than satisfied is SOS selected him, but he is not a midfielder, at all. As for suggesting he has huge upside, compared to many of the other draftees, he is already 187 88, so physically he already has the build, while others have more upside when it comes to physique

When you look back at our past recruiting, the emphasis hasn't been on kicking, but other things like agility, aerobic capacity, height, tenacity etc.
These things are all great but if they don't have the basic footskills they will be a liability a lot of the time.

Eg. Going back to the Setanta days, he was tried in most positions on the field and in today's footy he wouldn't have lasted the 7+ years he did.
Full credit to him, by the end of his time with CFC, he was probably one of our better and more reliable shots at goal (THEN we decide to offload him), but it's got me stuffed why the club put so much into his development. I mean I get he was an international rookie gamble, but he was a Hurler FFS, and he didn't have the basic footskills a Gaelic Footballer has, let alone knowledge of the game.

In today's side, Kerridge is super fit, racks up the possessions, and tries hard all day, but turns the ball over almost as much as he gets it.

Again, it's FOOTBALL, and decent kicking is a minimum baseline skill everyone in the team should have IMHO.
Yeah, all valid points. A blind man could see how much better our drafting is now than it was back in the previous era. I too like the fact we are getting players with real skills and composure at the draft, it's just that there is always a trade off (unless they are a no-brainer pick 1, 2, 3 etc.).

A gun mid-sized forward is equally as much of a need as midfielders. That's not to say Rayner is necessarily our man, but he should not be discounted due to need.

Right now I rate the top 5 kids in this order, for who I would hope our club would be seriously looking at:

Dow
Constable
Cerra
Rayner
Brayshaw

I would have Fogarty in that top 5 talent wise, but I would steer clear given the reports that he has made it known, that he wants to remain in Adelaide

The player that I think has the greatest upside from that top 6 is Constable and the player I hope SOS selects with pick 3. At 190 & 83KG, once he puts on more size, he will be difficult to stop, in that inside mid role. Constable can also play multiple positions, has the cleanest hands from any of the 1st rounder midfielders, alongside Hunter Clark. Plays predominantly inside mid, but has the the best disposals of players of that ilk. Then a toss up between Dow & Cerra.

Rayner and Brayshaw are on my next line of the pecking order

I remain staggered that Patmore is so easily dismissed by draft watchers, and I don't understand how anyone thinks he'll survive past pick 20.

Gets a lot of the ball, unfortunately his decision making is poor and disposal generally hit and miss. Doubt he will be picked in the first 2 rounds

people and recruiters said exactly the same thing about Dusty as a junior. He was already developed, so is he actually any good, or is he just bullying smaller kids?

turns out he was actually pretty good

I've seen that video, and there's nothing wrong with his technique, or what he's attempting to do in theory. He's trying things few do at that level, or above.

That speed/agility/endurance mix is phenomenal too. I know Freo are big on him, but I have doubts they'll use #5, which means they're hoping he's around at #40.

We should snap him up at #38 if so, but I'm wary of the Eagles at #28, maybe even #11. I don't understand how you're not raving about his work rate and read.

Jim, if the Eagles take him at 11, I will buy your membership for next year. I understand he does bite off more than he can chew at times, but constantly missing 15 to 20 metre targets is not the type of player that I would want

Does have some great attributes, but not as a selection in the 1st 2 rounds and I would not be that happy if we took him at 38

Never said he wasn't talented now or in the future, has amazing x-factor, which will translate easily at AFL level, but why would we pick a kid that might only play as a forward?

His tank is that bad, that he could be a liability, when players exploit it by running off him. If he has shown signs of improvement in that area, then I would re rate him, but at this stage, IMO, he sits outside the top 3

That's not a particularly impressive highlights package.

Fumbles aplenty and just about every kick was either a turnover or put a team mate under serious pressure.

Certainly looks to have an impressive burst of speed but he appears to panic and rush things far too much for my liking.

Reminds me of Pittard. Lots of dash but panics and turns it over too much.

Im very much keen on him... is an absolute ball magnet, kicking needs a bit of work, but he does try and go for the low percentage options. Thats easily ironed out though. If we had a 2nd and Bonar was gone id love this kid. Plenty to work with

I want us to grab both of them if we can, I think they'd improve our midfield almost straight away.
