The more the Kelly Saga drags on, the more and more I'm hoping we draft Jaidyn Stevenson with Pick 3.

Have been watching some videos and he is super composed (on the field and in front of the media), has great pace & agility and is a genuine goal kicker. He also does all the little things (like shepherding where he can). Shifter Sheahan compares him to Peter Matera.

I think this lad has a good footy head on his shoulders and his body allows him to do things better than most (he is old fashioned 'Rangey' type).

I'm officially on the band wagon.

Im with you and soapy, he had another 30 disposals and 11 tackles on the wknd. Did anyone see the game and rate his performance?

I think that is why SOS would consider trading down as he is likely to be around the 3-8 mark at this stage.

Surprised few are talking about Andrew Brayshaw.
Looks like a very good type to me and someone Bolton would be rather happy to have on the team.

What are the knocks on him?

I like him. If SOS was to swap Pick 3 (Don't believe he will) for 7 & 8 and got 2 of Brayshaw Stephenson or Higgins I would be very happy.

I didn't take much interest in him until the weekend.
Has some nice ball-handling and AFL quality manoeuvres. Speed also much better than I thought it was previously.

I still like Coffield though.:)

If this talk of swapping 3 for Saints' 7 & 8 comes to fruition, it could possibly see Jaidyn and Darcy Fogarty both heading our way.

I don't believe Brayshaw or Stephenson would still be there by pick 7.
TBH, I would be very surprised if Stephenson lasted to pick 5.

Hard to tell at the moment. Very even and clubs have needs etc. Brions & GC could go for Country kids.

At the moment I see Rayner Dow Cerra Stephenson LDU Brander Fogerty Coffield Constable Brayshaw Higgins as my Top 11 but I have no idea in what order and no doubt that will change

Can see Hunter Clarke rocketing up the draft boards, 186cm inside mid that can really win the footy and kick off both feet to a very high standard, two years ago as a 16yo, people were predicting he would go pick 1 in his draft year, hasn't had the year he would have wanted, but really coming home with it.
Stats wise he has had a big month, averaging 29 disposals, 9 tackles and booted 5 goals. Afl Draft Central rate his performances highly. He could easily shoot up with a big finish by the sounds of it.

Understandable

One thing I will say, people forget players that have been injured, Rayner, Dow, Cerra and even Spargo who I rate as a 1st rounder
^^^This.

Agree with those points but I'm seeing signs that those areas are improving and they can turn into consistent players. More is see LDU the more I like. I see huge upside. I was keen for Rayner/Dow but now I am not so sure. Be very interesting to sit in on an interview and know what they are like. Makes a big difference and SOS will pick quality kids that are enthusiastic and prepared to work.
Think he might be a bit of a Godsend Soapy V???

7 Prayers That LDU Can Answer:
  • Inside mid with big body, good endurance, genuine pace and excellent acceleration out of the contest.
  • Can play inside, outside, spread from the contest and become involved in chains of play. Can also play as a medium forward.
  • Not reliant upon others to find the ball and is prepared to go into the defensive half to find it.
  • Can play dual-sided, but is superior and much more consistent on his dominant right.
  • Capable of taking huge chunks of territory off the opposition with running and long kicking rather than going backwards or sideways like many do.
  • Will only become harder to tackle once his body hardens up with couple of preseasons in an elite AFL environment.
  • Wonderfully fluent kicking action that lets him cover 50m on the run or from a standing start.
LDU's 7 Deadly Sins:
  • Doesn't really have a defensive side to his game. Lays very few effective tackles, rarely pressures the opposition and doesn't take a man when the opposition control possession.
  • Generally kicks long to a contest rather than spotting up the man who is on his own in a better position. Watch Andrew Brayshaw for the first 2 minutes of the Dragons V Bushrangers game and notice how he picks out his targets.....even at long range.
  • Disposal by short kicks and by hand in tight are suspect.
  • Lacks the consistency from week-to-week that you'll get from Cerra, Constable, Brayshaw, Rayner and, to a lesser extent, Dow.
  • Doesn't make enough use of team mates around him in a better position and nor does he bring them into the game. Can play with blinkers engaged.
  • Lacks in areas of midfield craft, such as shepherding, creating a path for others, taking an opponent's run, providing subtle bumps & blocks, etc. Cerra, Constable, Rayner Roughsedge & Brayshaw all execute various aspects of midfield craft on a weekly basis as a matter of course.
  • Only average at best with his overhead marking.
Many of the negatives are treatable, but when the club's leaders (Murphy & Gibbs) don't exactly go out of their way to execute them, it may not be all that easy. I'd feel a lot more comfortable drafting him if we traded Gibbs. Does have a lot of attributes that I rate highly though.

One for you to follow from the Stingrays Soapy V is Bailey Williams who has the potential to be a Top 5 pick next year. Fair chance SOS might take a liking to him me thinks.

What are the knocks on him?
None that a couple of preseasons in the gym won't cure. Would create a shitload of havoc for opposition sides when teamed with SPS. And like SPS he is, first and foremost, a pure midfielder. Andrew Brayshaw is the one you aim to get if you trade Gibbs. He is exactly the sort of player we want and need.

I didn't take much interest in him until the weekend.

FWIW, I don't see Brayshaw or Coffield as Top 3 material, but certainly see both as Top 10 material. I still see Constable, Cerra, Rayner, Dow, Brander, LDU, Naughton & Higgins all potentially going before Coffield & Brayshaw. That's not to say they will, but could. :)

:clapping: Brilliant summation. I couldn't add anymore. Actually, I couldn't add as much as you just did

IMO:

11-16. Brayshaw, O'Brien, Clavarino, Higgins, Coffield, Clark (order not definative)

Smokey. Jordan Houlihan

OK, quoted above was me a month ago. I'll have a crack at being more ordered now. Not dying in a ditch over anyone yet though.

Here goes:

1. Rayner
2. Davies-Uniacke
3. Stephenson
4. Dow
5. Constable
6. Clark
7. D.Fogarty
8. Cerra
9. Hayes
10. Brander
11. Naughton
12. A.Brayshaw
13. Coffield
14. Clavarino
15. Higgins
16. Garner
17. Balta
18. O'Brien
19. Naish
20. Houlihan
21. L.Fogarty
22. N.Murphy
23. Petty
24. Z.Bailey
25. Bonar

Backend Roughies: Stefan Giro, Jordan Butts, Bailey Morrish

Good year to get a 10-30 pick if you need a KPD. 5 in that range and Sam Taylor just missed too. Terrible year if you need a KPF.

PS: Give me 2018 Top 10 Picks. I want 2018 Top 10 Picks....Gimme them NOW.

Has huge upside. Kicking is hit and miss at times, but his action is sound (like him more off his non preferred left) Since putting him back through the middle, has racked up some strong numbers and I really like his type of aggression. Would be great if we had a mid 1st round pick
