Yes, an immediate net loss in terms of midfield quality, but what could be/should be/ will be a huge gain long term.

I just brought up the name Graham for the sake of the argument. Not going to suggest he'll be a great player and not even one that could be better than Macreadie, but again, opportunity weighs in heavily to development. Generally speaking, the more time you have to play senior football, somehow the better one becomes.
Only the experts would know this but I still believe Kennedy in equates to Gibbs out
He’s young and would want to smash it next year and Cripps helping with ed
Watch out

I'd be happy with any combo that gives us Brayshaw @ #10, but doubt that may come about.

Select the players that serve an immediate need and ones that Bolton can extract the most out of. That makes for a good combination.
Would you take Brayshaw at 3?

Then we got a pick 10, a pick upgrade and a future second for free.
Boy did we do well :)

From here? I wouldn't complain.
Reckon that along with Dow, they're exactly what we need........from this draft, at least.
I've been on Rayner for most of the year, but really warming to Dow and Brayshaw. At the end of the day we'll get a good player at 3.

Still don't get this "best combination" concept that people are debating. The draft is not a game of school yard footy where 2 captains are nominated then they select who they think is the best player on that day, such a short term concept.

I could be wrong, but I think SOS would have these kids listed from 1 - 90ish, in ratings(based on the player they will become, rather than the immediate impact to the side), then just cross them off as they are selected (Macreadie is a prime example)
Exactly. Going forward we are only going to get so many top 10 picks, we can’t stuff around with these picks worrying about combinations, this where we end up picking inferior talent. Sure, we won’t be selecting a key back, but otherwise these 2 picks will be best available.

This draft, whilst very important, isn’t our end game in terms of our rebuild. There will be many more trade/draft scenarios which provide us opportunity to recruit quality mids.

Having said all that, I hope we do get a quality mid with one of the picks. It is sounding like Brisbane are leaning towards Rayner, if this happens we will end up with Cerra or Dow with pick 3.

Trading in good players always kills a club imo unless they’re at window
Draft our own and make them a champs is my theory then top 4 go shopping

I am not really a "huge fan" . In fact this years bunch to me is a bit underwhelming. But I cant for the life of me understand how a good player has been so widely dismissed due to a flawed test such as the beep and without further information -because the said player missed the latest combine.
Doesn't Billy Hartung hold the record for the beep test? Look at how he's turned out so far at AFL level. Just because Rayner is weak in this area doesn't mean he'll be a dud.

You can be an elite athlete and a rubbish footballer, but you can't be a poor athlete & an elite footballer.

Delistees far more relevant than Hartung would be Ben Lennon, Tom Lamb

What if I replaced “trade” with free agency? Dylan Shiel as a fa would compliment our list very nicely. I get your point but we shouldn’t be desperate for a mid in this draft as if this is our last chance.

Greg Williams was a poor athlete. Didn't he get rejected by a number of clubs including Carlton for his lack of athletic ability?

It depends what position you play and how you can utilise what you have. Greg Williams springs to mind but that's another era, I suppose.

I get your point but what is stopping is drafting the next Shiel with 3 or 10?
Bolton I’d guess knows what it takes to develop with his time at the Hawks etc being a great teacher
