Outstanding dedication to the joke.

I am very impressed.

Inb4 Jimmae points out that in order to be accurate, it should have been "LachieP20, SOSofTheCentury, CFC1864 and 2 others like this....." ;)

Does Fogarty have strong ties with SA?

For some reason i just have it in my head that he's a bit of a flight risk and likely to request a trade to SA at least at some point in his career, even if it's not after 2 years.

He's from Lucindale - near Mt Gambier.

5 hours from Melbourne - 3 hours from Adelaide.

Maybe not so much of a flight risk.

O'Brien has an incredible left peg but he looks like a deer in headlights when it comes to the contest, has a real DVR feel about him. SOS must pick a genuine inside and outside midfielder here.

Champion Data did some work on this.

IIRC - They concluded that any player with less than 33% contested possessions in U18's has a low chance of making it at AFL level.

O'Brien was around 24%.

The way I see it if someone goes ‘early’ on Richards, Murphy or Bonar before us, a Clarke, Fogarty or Coffield will fall into our lap at 10 which would be a great result (that’s with a Stephenson sliding out of the top 10 also)

Lretty sure I read somewhere that Gaff was a bit less than that.

It’s gotten to the point where l think we should call this thread,
“2017 Draft - Pick 10 - We have no idea who we are taking”

...but whoever it is the official line will be 'we were surprised he was still available at our pick'.

26% Gaff.

I think we all get spooked by the O'Brien/Richards 'types' due the scars of DVR, but wasn't Viojo's issue the fact that he didn't have the running capacity to get to enough contests hence which combined with his lack of contested ability meant he couldn't win enough of the ball?

O'Briens athletics pedigree already puts him well ahead of DVR in that regard.

Plenty of room for these guys in the modern game - Hill, Smith, Gaff, Birchall, Pittard, Brodie Smith, Hibberd, Wilson, Williams, Simpson etc but it's a combination of many facets rather than liking a guy for being "an excellent kick", or disliking them because "they have no contested game".

What have you seen of Richards' game that makes you doubt he can play midfield at AFL level?

I've only seem him play once. Nice looking size and skills. Didn't get it much. But he played in defence. And as far as I know, that's where he's played all year. He could become the next gun midfielder. But chances are, if he hasn't been playing midfield, he's unlikely to become one in the future. Can't see SOS/Brodie taking that kind of risk.

I'm sure we've been talking to him about the possibility of picking him up. Just like I'm sure we've been speaking to a number of other potential draftees. It doesn't really mean all that much. It's about due diligence. And not making it too obvious to the other clubs who you're most interested in (unlike under the previous recruiting regime).

He spent time through the midfield in the second half of the year and reportedly impressed. There's every chance he'll be taken with the view to becoming a midfielder - or someone capable of rotating through - at AFL level.

Let's not overstate the risk here. He's not more of a risk than other prospects just because we haven't been talking about him as much on here. Recruiting staff have watched him for years and will have a firm grasp on not only the player he is but also the player they believe he may become.

Picking him doesn't necessarily go against anything Silvagni has said.

I’d spew if we psss on Stephenson at 10 provided his heart is ok.

Do we go Stephenson at 10 if available? Question marks over his heart (physically, not metaphorically) but do we have that type of line breaker style player on our list? Pickett has speed and agility but to me doesnt seem like a line breaker so much as someone who can baulk and deek his way through traffic. This guy looks like he has toe to burn and can hit the after burners and just take off and although he is slight of build he looks like he has that stringy muscle type where he like a spring, a bit like a Judd or Laidley type. To me he seems like the kind of player we were hoping Boekhorst to be but hasnt turned out. Can someone tell me if I am forgetting someone on our list who has that elite sprint that we dont need a player like this? SPS again is another player that to me is more of your agile player who baulks and deeks to open the game up. Isaac Smith is another player that comes to mind that he resembles to me.
