Does Fogarty have strong ties with SA?
For some reason i just have it in my head that he's a bit of a flight risk and likely to request a trade to SA at least at some point in his career, even if it's not after 2 years.
Given what SOS said about us targeting midfielders/forwards in the draft, I'd assume that perhaps we might actually target midfielders/forwards in the draft.

O'Brien has an incredible left peg but he looks like a deer in headlights when it comes to the contest, has a real DVR feel about him. SOS must pick a genuine inside and outside midfielder here.
Hopefully we take a kid with pick 10 who can play along side Cripps and Kennedy in the midfield around the clearances. Want Murphy to spend the remainder of his career on a wing or half forward.

Lretty sure I read somewhere that Gaff was a bit less than that.Champion Data did some work on this.
IIRC - They concluded that any player with less than 33% contested possessions in U18's has a low chance of making it at AFL level.
O'Brien was around 24%.
It’s gotten to the point where l think we should call this thread,
“2017 Draft - Pick 10 - We have no idea who we are taking”

...but whoever it is the official line will be 'we were surprised he was still available at our pick'.
Pretty sure we said that when we selected Weitering...

Has Coffield fallen off the radar? Haven't heard much about him recently.
He's from Lucindale - near Mt Gambier.
5 hours from Melbourne - 3 hours from Adelaide.
Maybe not so much of a flight risk.
What have you seen of Richards' game that makes you doubt he can play midfield at AFL level?
KickingHas there ever been another touted top-10 pick whose hype is solely based on their underage year? What separates Fogarty from, say, Worpel?
I've only seem him play once. Nice looking size and skills. Didn't get it much. But he played in defence. And as far as I know, that's where he's played all year. He could become the next gun midfielder. But chances are, if he hasn't been playing midfield, he's unlikely to become one in the future. Can't see SOS/Brodie taking that kind of risk.
Excellent post, thank you.26% Gaff.
I think we all get spooked by the O'Brien/Richards 'types' due the scars of DVR, but wasn't Viojo's issue the fact that he didn't have the running capacity to get to enough contests hence which combined with his lack of contested ability meant he couldn't win enough of the ball?
O'Briens athletics pedigree already puts him well ahead of DVR in that regard.
Plenty of room for these guys in the modern game - Hill, Smith, Gaff, Birchall, Pittard, Brodie Smith, Hibberd, Wilson, Williams, Simpson etc but it's a combination of many facets rather than liking a guy for being "an excellent kick", or disliking them because "they have no contested game".
The way I see it if someone goes ‘early’ on Richards, Murphy or Bonar before us, a Clarke, Fogarty or Coffield will fall into our lap at 10 which would be a great result (that’s with a Stephenson sliding out of the top 10 also)

I’d spew if we psss on Stephenson at 10 provided his heart is ok.
