Surely lions with 15 or 18 would take the risk? Unless his heart issue is really that bad I would back the club to take a riskSounds like Stephenson's drop could be quite dramatic. Possibly out of the first round.

If Brisbane considered LDU such a flight risk, why does it appear he’s all set for Freo at pick two? Any connection with WA or anything?
Not really sure. Maybe he told them he just didn’t want to be in Brisbane. Likes the surf in WA.
the sharks prevent overcrowding. Prefer that to the craziness at places like Snapper Rocks. It also adds to the experience, like speeding without wearing a seatbelt, or shopping the markets in downtown Baghdad.I’m a gold coaster. Brisbane have no surf. WA way better. But yes sharks haha
Oh okay mate. Must have got the player wrong, sorryBrisbane don't consider LDU a flight risk. The talk on the Lions board is that the Lions question his desire and inner drive.
Dow is the player rumoured to be have the highest go home risk.
This all comes from poster on the Lions board who is viewed as a reliable source of information. I posted all this in the Brett Anderson mock draft thread, in the first two pages.
Fagan and Noble appear to prefer Brayshaw, while the recruiting team prefer Rayner.
Brayshaw is considered the safe pick. Not the player with the highest long term potential.

North have put a lot of time into him, pretty sure Brisbane have aswellAccording to a reliable source of the North board we are into worpel.
As no one knows, outside of club land, what the actual heart issue is, it's hard to speculate. Brett Anderson reported on SEN yesterday evening that two clubs have totally ruled out drafting Stephenson at any pick in the draft.Surely lions with 15 or 18 would take the risk? You'd have to consider how weak of a draft it is to take a risk in the first round. This draft might be that bad, that 15 or 18 is in play if Stephenson is there.
Cal Twomey drops his mock draft tomorrow so things will be a bit clearer by then. He’s usually more on the money than anyone elseThis time of year I wouldn't be putting much on what any club has to say, bit like playing poker.
Sam McClure on SEN this morning said that he's got it on good authority the Lions will take Rayner, the Dockers will take LDU, and Carlton will take Dow.
Hearing it on SEN probably doesn't count as a rumour though. Best I've got.
Agreed. Except for the team that holds pick 1. Our next two picks are late first rounders, so it's not like who we draft at pick one has much bearing on who will be available at 15 or 18.This time of year I wouldn't be putting much on what any club has to say, bit like playing poker.

You only have to look at Twomeys final mock draft over the last few years and their isn’t much he gets wrong. More connections than anyone else around. I think Anderson’s could be a bit off this year. Quite a few picks in his I don’t think will go the way he has themI rate's Brett Anderson's Mock more then Twomey but Cal is 1 you do pay Attention too
Lets hope they are getting better at it, lets also hope they understand that the speed and agility profile of the Lions squad must improve.Saw an SEN article with the following snippet:
The Lions coach said the club interviewed 30 young players at the draft combine and said years of honing the process believes he’s adept at sniffing out those with a reluctance to travel outside their home state.
“You pick up players who have a really strong preference to stay in Victoria and that makes you think twice,” he said.
Not always going to get it right but i think ultimately clubs will pick up whether a player is being genuine or not or at least keep getting better at it.

There was a fair amount of talk about Rayner mailing in his last few school games for PEGS. No competitive streak shown there. As you write it's probably not a rumour, And while Rayner is a gamble at 1 I liked his tackling in his highlights and what seemed to be a competive streak, the best ones have a big competitive streak Voss, Hodge etc. It's that competitive streak that mitigates the risk some what in my opinion as he'll break himself trying to improve his tank to get into the 22.
Why dont you Carlton/North supporters quit this pissing contest and move on. Or you could take it to the ladder predictions thread? All this wanky chat is giving me a headache. Cheers.
Pretty rich coming from a Brisbane supporterCreate a thread elsewhere - my suggestion "battle of the minnows"
Imagine being a cardiologist at 18.Stephensons heart issue is not going to cause him any issues. This is coming from a teammate of his.

Laughed when I saw the comment as well. Club recruiters: Okay, sweet. His teammate said it’s all good so it must be, let’s get him”Imagine being a cardiologist at 18.

With our poor recent history of first round draft choices, taking a boom or bust player like Rayner with our first No. 1 pick for ages would make for a very nerve-wracking few years for Lions supporters. The fingernail chewers amongst us are going to be ****ed.There was a fair amount of talk about Rayner mailing in his last few school games for PEGS. No competitive streak shown there.
Over all Rayners TAC cup and PEGS season didn't live up to his U18 Championships games. And in the champs, he played in far and away the best team, with a dominant defence and midfield feeding him.
No disputing he has some good highlights.
You want players who will break themselves trying to improve, look at Andrew Brayshaw and Jack Higgins. They may not have the same ceiling as Rayner though.
Fo me, Rayner is the ultimate boom or bust type player. If the Lions draft Rayner, doG I hope he proves me wrong.
Not in a position to spend endless hours as recruiter do analysising draft crop and can only go on highlights I've seen however Rayner might be worth the gamble if he gives the impression he isn't a attention seeker that wants the attention that the big Vic clubs offer. There was a fair amount of talk about Rayner mailing in his last few school games for PEGS. If he's there at 10 and we don't select him I'd be hugely disappointed. IIRC he ran a 6:20~ 2km. That tells me he has the ability to train and play at the next level.
Think he goes to the Saints at 8 along with Coffield. They'll have a good draft this year.
