I was happy to take any of the top few before today's loss and I'm still the same now.

Difference is now there's the active pressure of picking the best one. I wouldn't hate it if we downgraded the pick for benefits.

If us and the Suns finish 18th & 17th perhaps this works better for us in a way. Top draftees have a few months to let a likely Qld destination sink in rather than get a "shock" on the night.

No idea how we do it but Dow, worpel, hunter clark, ballenden and payne would be nice via the draft.

I can confirm his preference is to stay in Victoria.
I'll bet my left nut LDU, Dow, Cerra preference is to stay in Victoria aswell... either way I just get a bad feeling about Rayner. I've never spoken to him but he absolutely screams go home after 2 years. A lot of whispers about and wheres there smoke...

Yeah difficult to imagine many youngsters from any state declare their preference is to go interstate but completely agree RE rayner

Rayner has openly discussed it with at least one interstate club.

You reckon we would take him before Lochie O'Brien if available SM?
I think so. Personally I'm 50/50 on Clarke but if there is a "slider" at Ports pick I think we should definitely take them. I would love Constable or Coffield at that pick.

Also you can more or less lock in Paddy Dow as pick 1 after Fagans comments for a hybrid midfielder which is another tick towards Dow. Might be a slight 'reach' at pick 1 but he seems the absolute best fit for our list going forward.

I want a player who can burst out of stoppages and CENTER SQUARE CLEARANCES FOR GODS SAKE.

Sounds like Paddy Dow to me.

Pick 1- Paddy Dow.
Pick 12&18- 2 of James Worpel/Charlie Constable/Lochie O'Brien/Hunter Clark/Andrew Brayshaw.

+ Connor Ballenden, Jack Payne and Adam Sambono or Liam Ryan. (fingers crossed Ballenden slides to below 18)

Yep...Paddy ,then Constable, who among other things supplies what was almost absent today, physical authority.

I'm all for drafting the best talent, but it also has to fit team needs. Dow is a midfielder with speed and can win the contested ball. The doubts on Rayner's tank and whether he'll stay around are enough for us to pass. Given how we still tend to suck at winning the ball, I would also go Worpel at 14, unless there's a slider like Coffield or O'Brien. Ballenden at pick 18 or later, but I wouldn't be matching if a bid comes before our Port bid. But going on last year, this could all change before draft day.

Can't believe people aren't getting around the hype of this kid. And this whole thing abiut him 'definitely not wanting to leave victoria' is just garbage. Back Noble and Fagan and our exciting young team to keep him there. Could be a 'franchise player', you don't pass up on players like this
I'm conflicted on the Cameron Rayner question given some of the assertions I have read on the Draft board so I have jumped on the Dow index train. Although as you say if Fagan, Noble, Amrogio, Conole and Crowell perform their due diligence and decide to select Rayner I will fully back them and be on the Rayner Entertainer bandwagon.

In an ideal world you very rarely get a number 1 pick so we really need to make the most of it, hopefully we don't get another number 1 pick for a few decades.

What everyone has to remember that in today's recruiting of players they don't just take into account their ability in the field. Recruiters talk to just about everyone involved with players these days almost even their school's janitor. I'm certain that our recruiters will be thorough in their process and will back them in.

For me personally it isn't so much just the one pick but the collective of who we draft. We have seen how drafting the right players and how they can impact on your future prospects can start to turn things around. Hope that the 2017 Brisbane Lions draft class is just as good as 2016.

Yeah, go home risks are best assessed by the club and its recruiters. No point us getting too caught up in debating it. If Rayner's a massive risk, we won't draft him. If he's not, or it is manageable, then we might take a punt.

If Rayner can test a bit better with his running at some point, then we'd be mad not to consider him. With one or maybe two more decent picks, we can add solid midfield quality. But getting a gamechanging forward/mid would be really tempting. The key is that he has to be at least somewhat midfield capable.
