Terry Wallace's top 10, interesting that he has 2 KPP in front of Ballenden.

Darcy Fogarty.
Cameron Rayner.
Jarrod Brander.
Luke Davies-Uniacke.
Jayden Stephenson.
Lochie O'Brien.
Sam Hayes.
Connor Ballenden.
Adam Cerra.
Hunter Clark.

So if the club is anticipating a pick for Ballenden before #11, then I hope to dear god that they aim to have at least locked in safe two live picks before any picks for Ballanden come in. In which case, use #11 as currency in trading to another team as a good live pick that may be wasted on us.

Perhaps Carlton's #2 + #20 and their third rounder for Schache + our #11...no point having #11 if we don't get to use it live. Leaving us with #1 and #2, #19, #20, Carlton's 3rd, #43, #73 + late ones.

Can cherry pick the two best kids in the draft with plenty of points to ensure Ballanden and any other good academy lads are safe and secure too.

Throw a PP into the mix, or free agency compo if Rocky leaves, and well....we start to look like having a GWS draft from a few years back :)
Disagree. 3 top 10 picks is less than Gold Coast had last year, let alone GWS 5 years ago.

No particular problem with the optimism, but I keep hearing the lines trotted out by the football media to justify us being at the bottom: "young and talented list" and "remind me of GWS a few years back". I hate the comparison because it makes it seem like "well if the fans are just patient", which is so far from the truth it's not funny.

Yes 18 top 10 picks v 3

Wonder whether we'd have any interest in trading pick 1 and 14 for st kilda's 4 and 8 in this draft. I'm sure a standout for pick 1 will emerge but right at this point my untrained and half arsed eye isn't seeing it quite yet. Guess it depends if we do have to use ports pick on academy matching and where Ballenden sits at the end of the afl u18 comp really.

Or would St. Kilda be interested in Schache? Certainly could bring about some interesting deal options with St.K given their multiple picks

Apologies for the comparison to GWS, I know its NOTHING like what they had. But that's all superfluous to the real thrust of my post; speculating whether Schache + Ports pick could net a very very high additional draft pick (such as Carlton's) whilst still having enough lower picks in reserve to cover Ballenden + other academy products

This is an interesting idea. They don't seem completely settled on Bruce or McCartin and time is running out to find a Riewoldt replacement.

I doubt that Schache looks a safe enough bet for them to see him as a clear upgrade on what they've got already, but I think it's conceivable if McCartin moved elsewhere.

Unpleasant as it may sound, and I would not wish it on anyone - but if McCartin gets one more concussion...........

I heard Jamie Cox today say they were not interested in Fyfe but are open to Martin and Kelly.
With ever way they go, it appears St Kilda is keen on trading in some high end talent. If they fail, their picks may be available in trade, though I would be loath on giving up pick one.

Interesting changes. Like that the 3km is down to 2km due to aligning with clubs training, the yo-yo test was unfamiliar to me. Had to check out how to actually gauge what rankings would be considered good and bad. This site was pretty thorough. http://www.topendsports.com/testing/results/yo-yo-intermittent.htm

The head of fitness training at Collingwood AFL club was quoted as saying that the Melbourne Victory (National Football/Soccer team) players perform the intermittent yo-yo test, and were scoring "high teens and 20s. Getting about 20 to 21, they’re looking at over two kilometers. Two-and-a-half would be exceptionally elite."

Male top-class soccer players, playing matches at the highest international level, had a higher performance level on the Yo-Yo IR1 test (2420 m) than elite (2190 m) and sub-elite players (2030 m) as well as moderate trained soccer players (1810 m)

Im hoping someone who isnt Vic Metro (pussy cats) jumps out as the clear number one at the u18's. Preferably Fogherty as a third tall up forward with an ability to push into the middle. If not the next player who kinda fits us for mine is O'Brien. Pace and skills on the outside would be nice.
Maybe we trade number 1 like some have mentioned. Would really put some lead back in my pencil (yikes!) if we could attract some established talent to the club.

On Callum Twomey's road to the draft podcast today he was asked the question "would you trade the number 1 pick for Jacob Hopper and Matthew Kennedy" he said yes and would also trade it for Hopper alone. He then added but Hooper and/or Kennedy will not be going to the Lions.
