You jinxed him into action!

Probably Clayton's best game of the champs too, as he misses a goal from 50m. He looks a nice field kick though... late ND to rookie chance I would've thought

What's Clayton like athletically? I think that's what probably cost Rolls a spot and others who have looked promising.

Nothing to write home about.

Metro just in front - I thought they would give the Allies an absolute bath (based on previous results).

No surprise that Ballenden's involvement led to the Allies kicking a few. He's playing down back but has been relatively quiet, besides a couple of intercept marks. Noting that it's quite wet, so not a day for the talls.

Brander having his best game of the champs - a few contested marks leading up to the wins (he's playing as a forward). Crossley (ruck) and Bailey probably the best for the Allies.

Metro, not for the first time, have been led by Naish. Wouldn't surprise me if he won the medal for the champs. I think he has been the most consistent throughout all of Metro's games. Richmond will have to cough up one of their picks in the teens. Brayshaw also having his best game of the champs.

Ballenden started the rebound chain for the Allies, which eventually finished with a Brander goal to start the term.

More recently, Ballenden again made the play through the HBF which resulted in a goal to Hugh Dixon... I guess what I'm trying to say is Ballenden is the playmaker for the Allies - I think he has been involved in every goal chain for the Allies. Playmaker not in the sense that he is playing a quarterback role and everyone's giving him the ball, it's his ability to intercept then use the ball aggressively on the rebound.

Metro lead 47-42.

I didn't see Ballenden's game against WA but damn, we've got another good intercepting defender on our hands. He spent the backend of that quarter keeping Metro at bay. Wonderful disposal too
Exactly what he did against WA. He reminded me of how Skinner has been playing in the 2's, as in no sooner does he take an intercept mark then he aggressively uses the ball, but generally with quality disposal

Terrific final quarter. Allies win a boilover 76-73!

Zac Bailey was outstanding for the Allies. Hugh Dixon was another I liked in the SA game, but he really stood up in the fourth today. He has something about him. Ballenden is one I've spoken about a lot today but he was terrific. He's either a defender or a ruckman that floats behind the ball like McEvoy in his St Kilda days. Crossley was brilliant in the ruck too, haven't seen the SA ruck too much but I'd go with Crossley over Hayes.

Higgins and Rayner really stood up for Metro in the fourth. Rayner probably cemented himself as no. 1, but god I hope we can somehow get Higgins in the teens. Constable good too while Naish rounded out a really consistent carnival.

Why do you rule out the forward line for Ballenden? Surely it's mainly between the ears why he hasn't been more consistent forward.

Ballenden was very impressive. Reads the play well and has excellent disposal. I think the final comment about him after the game was he will cost the Lions plenty in draft points so they are expecting him to go early.

The boy Zac Bailey for the Allies was excellent. But Raynor was cut above the rest. Talk about a mirror image of Dusty Martin. I would get him just for the fact that he is a superstar in the making and if we are playing finals in 2019 the kid could be very handy. Back ourselves into keeping him especially if we are tracking in the right direction as a team. If he wants to leave after two years we will net a very nice return.
