Will Sutherland has chosen cricket. No doubt Daddy had a word to him.
Mum works at AFL Victoria too! Tough call for the kid.

Probably a smart call for him though. AFL much more welcoming of those from outside of the system; difficult to get back within the cricket system once you leave. If career in cricket flops he can always do an Alex Keath and end up on a category B rookie spot in a few years. Problem is you've wasted half your career.

Witherden's kicking from the back half has made Coffield an even more enticing prospect for me. You can see that the game plan is to try and work our way via hand and foot but we need more to be able to do this especially from the backhalf. Obviously our greatest need is inside midfielders but would be very happy to have him in a Lions jumper next year.

He would be very appealing with the game style we're trying to play, as you said we need to address our midfield thou. He seems to be ranked awkwardly for us, not in the conversation for our first and way above Ports pick (would be extremely hard to even upgrade it to that range)

The Richmond game made it very clear we need to add to our junior midfielders. Rockliff, Beams and Zorko were all uncharacteristically awful.

I'd really like to see Keays and Barrett getting more midfield time and Rocky/Beams spending a bit more time forward. They look spent.

If Keays and Barrett could come in and play a strong last 6 games through the midfield alongside Matho, McCluggage and Berry, I'd be feeling a lot more comfortable about our future.

Some notes I've seen posted around the traps from the TAC games.

Adam Cerra (24 disp and 3.5) and Jaidyn Stephenson (26 disp and 1 goal) standouts for Eastern Ranges on Sat. A couple of top-end picks. Cal Twomey

That Eastern Ranges team is loaded, featuring the aforementioned and Hayes (20 hit-outs, 21D), Dylan Moore (26D 2.0) & Garner (18D & 1.0)

10 touches and three clearances in first 10 minutes for Sandy's Charlie Constable against Bendigo. Continuing champs form. Brett Anderson

Constable finished the day with 29 and 3.2, as the Dragons beat Bendigo by five goals.

Gryan Miers (Dalhaus 2.0) kicked 5.4 from 21 while Worpel had 34 (the TAC website has listed 14 of those kicks as "ineffective"...) as the Falcons knocked over the Western Jets. For the Jets Rayner had 14 touches.

Jack Higgins had 30 and kicked 2.2 in Oakleigh's big win over the Rebels.

LDU's Dandenong defeated the Northern Knights by 29. He had 21 and kicked 2.1. Hunter Clark had 20.
For the Knights Coffield 24 and 1.0 from 15 handball receives while Naish had 19 and kicked 2.

Jake Bradshaw (F/S Daniel) played his first game for Murray and had 8 touches + 5 tackles.

James Worpel seems to be putting together a good group of games. Probably wouldn't last to our Port pick though, unless they crash and burn.

With Fyfe re-signed and Dusty likely to stay I can't see our first rounders being pushed back this year. Maybe our second if Sam Reid leaves.

Almost all draft watchers rate Worpel in the 20's. Big knock on his kicking.
I have read a few reviews that said they couldn't see too much wrong with his disposal (improving?) through the champs and on the weekend, I read a lot of them so can't recall which ones. Apparently he got a few outside minutes on the weekend and did quite well.

Just above his stats for the weekend was 34 possessions with 14 ineffective kicks, Bishop on the drafting and trading board said he went at 39% kicking efficiency.

We need to be mindful that in trying to solving one issue (contested possession) that it's doesn't perpetuate another problem (kicking efficiency) I really liked him as a prospect last year, but that side of his game is very concerning

I can really see Dow being a good fit for us. Has pace and can win his ball on the inside. Probably less upside than Rayner but not far behind him. LDU would also be good but reckon he is third in line.

Probably similar stats to Dusty Martin. He had something like 11 clangers on the weekend.

I'd take Worpel with Ports pick and wouldn't think twice. It's not even so much his field kicking for mine, just his tenancy to whack it on the boot hoping for a good result in contested situations. That's something that can be ironed out of his game and if it was, he'd be a massive steal.

If your worried about the DE% stat: Danger and Martin, likely to be 1 and 2 in the Brownlow voting, both operate at under 63% across the season.

Look how far blokes like Robertson and Matho have come with their kicking. Even Yeo was average when he started out with us.
