The first three are hardly "clogging up the list" surely??

As for the rest - time will tell - SOS hasn't shown sympathy for list cloggers.
As for the tall guy from WA- it is enough to know that Carlton has invited him to the pre-party to understand what the intention or option is - no need for debate - he is rated enough by Carlton to get more than a mention.
Come on JaB...as a collective........

Come on JaB...as a collective........

Well

r...

if you are saying none of them would be part of a starting 22 top4 contending side- I agree - except for maybe Pickett I have high hopes for him if he can get his body right.

Until 2020.

Was always a long shot but disappointing nonetheless.

The number of realistic available options for us are drying up with all these re-signings...barass said Devon Smith's knee is a concern so the only player of any significance we may get this trade period is M. Kennedy. Which i wouldn't be too disappointed with really.

Would have been nice to have a blockbuster trade period getting a Kelly or Whitfield type, but i'd settle for getting Kennedy for our 2018 2nd rounder, then draft best mid at pick 3. 2 young gun mids added to our mix.

But then again, Kennedy may choose Brisbane or someone else so we may end up with no significant additions from this years trade period.

We invited a 23 year old ruckman from the wafl to this years combine. That could be our target.

Geez......you can be harsh and dismissive with your assessments.
Has tapered a little (injury?) but has been preferred to AFL listed Giles and McInnes for most
of the season. Must be impressing the Weagles' brains trust somewhat.
There are plenty of semi mature state leaguers out there, most of us aren't in a position to
judge. I am sure SOS and co. have a couple on the radar.

We have a myriad of youngsters on the list, and are in danger of developing a scattergun
approach with too many kids who are talented but speculative, particularly with mids and
small forwards.

If list spots are available, I would be all for investing in two speculative rucks and let them
fight for survival/promotion, as opposed to picking up insurance or one "next cab of the rank".

I don't want to see Wright, Pickett, Lamb, Sumner, Gallucci, LeBois (hasn't fired a shot), could
even add Boekhorst and Buckley as multiple small forwards clogging up the list, and have no
developing rucks.

Maybe but we are not relying on him as the number 1 ruckman and he's still only 22 and yet to do an AFL pre-season, so he's still not in his prime as a ruckman.
He could do a massive amount of damage playing up forward with a relief run in the ruck while Kruiser has a rest up forward.
Far more scoreboard impact than that other guy on our list. At least shots will be converted.

It has been a long time coming for the 22-year-old from Busselton, whose draft year was wrecked when he broke a leg in 2013 — a year in which his under-18s teammates such as Dom Sheed, Patrick Cripps and Cam McCarthy found AFL homes.

The 205cm, 109kg ruckman-forward has since battled a dislocated AC joint in 2015 and a broken bone in his foot last year.
I just see him as another Phillips, and Sauce had a bigger base to work from. He's got a lot of catching up to do to be an AFL ruck.

I think we'll pick him if we wind up picking no one else. Here's some footage:

Any news on Cunnnnnnningham ;) ?

Was thinking about that ?

Shouldn't we recruit Jack Trengove - that would give us two AFL players with letters missing from their names !!
Barass and MS3 have both suggested he will re-sign imminently, presumably just ironing out performance incentives.

I'm hoping we target Balic.

Forget all that garbage about him missing games etc. Was very highly rated at Freo.

Put into the WAFL side after missing most of the year with injury in 2016 and looked a class above that level, averaging 19 possessions with no preseason.
  • Averaged 29 possession a game this year
  • broke into the Freo side this year; and
  • if not for homesickness issues, would have been one of their better performers.
  • Played well against Melbourne and West Coast.

My concerns are his general fitness and running capacity.

He's a big bloke who will win a lot of contests if he can get to them, but he has struggled to accumulate at all levels of state footy.

Very true, but at 22 years old after a couple of hard preseasons and by 24-25 year old he will start to come into his prime.
If rookie listed, that a chance we would take...wouldn't we?

Can he get to enough contests at AFL level?

I think the answer is no.

We might be taking only one rookie pick, and he doesn't strike me as first round rookie material.

I am with you on that Soapy. As much as I'd love to get Kelly for an immediate impact, what if Cerra, LDU, etc turn out to be just as elite?
I know it's still all what if but we shouldn't be selling the farm at this stage. Get him if we can but not at all costs.
Even if we do manage to get Kelly I think we still need to be selecting in the top dozen on draft day. Big ask though to manage both.

IF we dont trade the Gibb then I think we can go after a mature mid eg Rockliff and give Kelly a miss. Then bring in the best young mid we can eg LDU or however sos selects. I think that mature mid injection in conjunction with the organic improvement of our young mids means our midfield improves a heck of a lot . Maybe not elite , which it may very well have been with Gibbs, Kelly and Rockliff in it, but still highly competitive and not the Achilles heel that it has been recently

It's not really about the fifty thousand odd members it's about building it and not falling behind
We're number 11 in membership from 18
Take away gold coast and gws we're 11 from 16 and a corporate sponsorship that reflects that
At some point you do need to put your foot in the gas
Harker has a very salient point
You can bet your bottom dollar the club is worried
Any idea how much we are going to lose this year and fall further behind?

Number 11 in membership numbers, Number 16 on the ladder- Outperforming! Yaay!

We should move on . GWS was a happy hunting ground, now its low hanging fruit has been picked .

Well yes, but you need players to make the team 'right'
That's the point and the sooner you get it right, the more focused the organisation becomes.

Maybe not the right thread to have the discussion but list management might also include the executive list maybe...

My take (FWLIW) on football is that it is entertainment as far as economics goes. Clubs entertainment index rise with expectations about good performance ( wins) and fall with bad performances ( losses).

Organisations who have sponsorship dollars to allocate - prefer to allocate them with brands associated with good performance.

So Clubs have to manage 'expectations' about future performance if they want to be good brand managers.

The reason many on here were so dark about Carlton in the past was that the epic fail in every aspect of the Club's brand management was a doom loop of compounding shitness.

The Board issues have apparently been settled as was the CEO issue with the departure of Swan as was the coaching and List management issue with Bolton and SOS.

Stability is very important in a brand build exercise - I find the rumor of a new CEO in the wings to be a negative signal.

There are no fast fixes to a two decade disaster.
