Theyve got Campbell and the young ruck Tim English and if they could only get Boyd on the ground theres ya back up ruck
Releasing Roughead to the backline ? .
Tieing up a lot of cap space on ordinary players imo .

Boyd's future is still up in the air and out of all of those names only Roughead could play in defence, but Trengrove is a much more proven KPD.

Agree he's a good defender useless in the ruck and forward . Guess it comes down to cost and 4 years i'll say it again is crazy for him .

Sittin off the front.

Your soundtrack?
Stuck in the middle with you.

Enter, stage left; midfield,
P.Cripps...
Exit; stage right, midfield,
The ball.

Ah Chee just came runner up in the Magarey Medal

(Interestingly , ex crow Mitch Grigg won it )

Winners or awards at lower levels aren't a good indicator of whether they'll make it at AFL level...we see consistently winners of these medals not be picked up by AFL recruiters...yet someone much further down the official rankings might be.

This includes things like TAC All-Australian, where i'll never forget McCarthy & Watson were the 2 key defenders picked...and we chose both. Wouldn't surprise me if Hughes & Rogers simply looked at the AA team and figured they'd be the best kids to pick.

Spencer is a list clogger as bad as Gorringe ever was. Spencer 38 games in 9 years. Gorringe 26 in 7.

Finished off the year with a busted ankle.
Picking up Spencer is not a move for our best 22, he is there to fill a need. I don't think the games quota is also relevant as Spencer has had two All-Australian rucks in front of him his entire career (Jamar and Gawn) whilst Gorringe at Gold Coast had the likes of a washed up Josh Fraser and some other castaways. If Spencer takes up a rookie spot and is only promoted if ruck depth is needed, Kreuzer and Phillips hardly scream durability its a wiser move then drafting an 18yo 90 pounds soaking wet to come up at that level. We do need to draft a future ruck in the next two drafts of high quality obviously for the future.

I keep reading we should get Stringer, we should trade in Schache, we should get Trengove .. SOS DONT DO IT WE NEED ELITE MIDS (at least 2) and the NEXT TWO DRAFTS OR TRADE PERIODS NEED TO BE DEDICATED TO THAT
Sure you can recruit a developing ruck and a small defender as rookies or late picks
BUT DO NOT WASTE EARLY PICKS OR TRADES ON ANYTHING BUT MIDS
and please don't recruit anymore KPFs until we get some mids to who can deliver to our current crop.

Take a look at our best 25-30 on the list and our gaps - high quality in bold
Backline - sorted
Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman, Williamson, Docherty, Jones, Macreadie, Simpson, Byrne, small defender

Forwards - sure we currently have the lowest scoring forward line but Curnow is going to be elite and at most we should have only one other tall ie Casboult and then McKay (key forward who can ruck), the rest are kids who will get better but we need more mobile forwards not KPFs. IF McKay does not develop then BSOS will surely be a gun
Curnow, Silvagni, Wright, Casboult, Pickett, Fisher, Boekhurst, McKay, Lamb

Midfield - we have some elite, some mature quality and depth but we need elite mids - we need elite mids to push out Graham, Daisy and Kerridge
Cripps, Kreuzer, Gibbs?, Murphy, Elite Mid, Elite Mid, SPS, Ed Curnow, Cuningham

First glance says our forwards are also short on quality but I think this will turnaround because:
- with our lack of quality in the midfield our forward line will get better entries and significantly more entries
- Silvagni, Fisher, Pickett and McKay will improve with another pre-season and odds are at least the first two will make it

Jake Spencer has been delisted from Melbourne, could be solid back-up in the ruck.
No

I was just going to post about him, worth having a look-in, need to shore up ruck depth and he is ready made ?
No

We MUST pick up Spencer on a rookie or 1 year deal surrrrely
No

Really surprised by that, was more than serviceable while Gawn was gone
He has hung on by a thread for years now. Too old to call a project and will only deliver 2 or 3 good games a year.

Isn't he injury prone as ****k?
Yes.

Would be better than Gorringe/Korcheck and probably Philips combined X 2!!!!!!

Perfect for us I would have thought.
Let me be absolutely clear: I'm happy with Phillips if this is the alternative.

Nonsense: securing Spencer is a move you make when you're out of moves.

Whilst i somewhat agree with your detailed in depth analysis of Spencers talents ;) .
We will have to find another option if both Kruezer and Phillips are unavailable and atleast Spencer is a big boy and wont be ragdolled in the ruck ala Gorringe who left us extremely exposed in his brief dalliance in the ruck . We have the backup ruckman covered in Casboult and longer term possibly Mckay .
So what is your plan for another ruckman on the list if needed immediately ?
With 2 gone in Korchek and Gorringe there is a need .

We need to regenerate at the position. Levi, Jones, Rowe and Phillips are the senior cover.

Wicz also mentioned we were kicking tyres in the state leagues as well.

Spencer has kept his career alive on minimum chips for sometime now, but has never been able to get fit enough.

I've covered this topic several times before, this year.

So what are your thoughts on Spencer? You didn't make it clear enough ;p

Fair enough somehow missed your ruck blueprint .
Dont see Jones as a ruck option whatsoever even with his couple of slashing games as ruck in the reserves .
We'd have to be seriously shorthanded :thumbsu:

Absolutely, but he and Rowe go OK for senior ruck options #4 & #5 though.
