So anyone know why we haven't re-signed Cuningham yet when we have signed all our other kids?

He's a VIC boy so not like he's homesick...and being a second year mid we wouldn't be looking to trade him.
Is there a sticking point over money perhaps?
I've been wondering this too............

Cunners is tracking very nicely, one of my favourites to watch play

Marc Murphy fan bois are the most rusted on of them all. Curious.

I find the need to label people who hold a differing opinion to yours on Murphy as 'fan bois' even more curious.
The term is obviously used in a derogatory and dismissive manner.

As far as I go, I was never in agreement with making Murphy Captain of our club, my preference was for Kade Simpson to be appointed. People at the club obviously saw it differently at the time and we had to accept that.

I don't think he will be remembered as one of the greatest Captains of our Club but I think he will be remembered as a quality person who gave whatever he had to give to the club. He had the captaincy thrust upon him at a really difficult period in the history of our club and it would have been easier for him to have left and gone to play elsewhere where life as a player would have been far easier for himself.

I think he will relinquish the captaincy at the end of the year and look forward to seeing Sam Docherty as our next Captain as I think he's a natural leader. I am sure that Murphy will be helping to make the transition to a new leadership group a smooth one and will continue to support them for as long as he continues to play for the club.

As I have said I think the people involved with him at the club are better qualified to judge his value than we are. Unlike some others, I think he has made a very significant contribution to the club. I don't think that he has done anything to deserve to be treated with contempt or disrespect.

This is only my opinion from what I have observed, it doesn't make me a fan boi.

Casboult > pick 18 > Sicily
Pick 2 > Richmond pick 14, pick 15
Pick 15 > Hopper
Pick 14 > Whitfield
Pick 54 > Balic

Out: Casboult, Pick 2, Pick 54
In: Hopper, Whitfield, Balic, Sicily

Weitering Jones Plowman
Docherty Marchbank Byrne
Whitfield Cripps Murphy
Silvagni Curnow Sicily
SPS McKay Wright

Kruezer Gibbs Hopper

Cuningham Williamson Fisher Curnow
So our first of three mandatory picks is in the 70s?

we are all spending a fair bit of time on an internet forum due to our love of a football club that has not had one modicum of success in this century. sadly i suspect that makes us all "fan bois".
showing respect to a player that has shown nothing but respect to our club does not put you at a higher level of "fan boisdom".
Neil was right, rust never sleeps.

Not sure about rusted on. I suspect most (like me) don't like the idea of trading away our captain when he is still contracted.

Murphy didn't appoint himself captain so no issue on that point, although I look forward to what the next leadership group will bring along.

Will be interesting to see whether we move on from Marc next year.
The club wouldn't dare make noise about their captain, but I can't help wondering what's going on behind closed doors in regards to him.

Do we keep Murphy on as captain?
What process would we employ for doing so? The players vote?
Murphy's contract expires next year, so what are our plans for tenure & remuneration, post 2018?
Will Marc like our offer if there is to be one? What if he doesn't appreciate what we offer?

In regards to trade:
We don't have much in way of trade value after Gibbs and if Gibbs doesn't want to go.....what then?
SOS will not / can not trade out 2 first rounders, so we're a little limited in the tradable commodity stakes.

All speculation I know, but surely some issues can surface here.

Great balance post gab213:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu: also captaincy get voted each year in the last two years, so Murphy must has some really good quality personalities to get elected by his peers:thumbsu:

If trading Murphy allowed us to get Kelly and Hopper/Whitfield, whilst keeping one of our 2 first rounders I would do it.

Great servant of the club but he is not the future.

I'm sure GWS don't want to lose half of their midfield whilst they are in premiership mode. If they could add a class player like Murphy who is good to go straight away, I'm sure they would be interested.

Murph is contracted, so it's up to him at the end of the day... But hey, he might actually want the chance to go snag a premiership before he retires, without the pressure of captaincy on his shoulders.

This would allow us to keep going to down the youth and rebuild path, whilst bringing in quality, and not mortgaging our future to secure it.

What if he were to demand a trade? How would you feel then?

I think it would be perfectly acceptable(and accepted) that negotiating a new contract after 30 puts the player in a much weaker position, and as such I would think that murphy and the club would be looking for a substantially reduced contract and/or one that is heavily performance based. How often have we seen a star player go from one of the clubs best players, to barely keeping his spot in 3 months- let alone 2-3 years. FWIW I see a change of role next year for Murph - a move to the forward line, which I assume will be enabled by our offseason bolstering of our midfield. Hope I am right.

Hasnt been a happy hunting ground for GWS though. deledio and griffen ring a bell?

With Cas apparently already wearing yellow and black and GWS being too tall in the forward line, I wonder if someone like Patton now enters calculations...

Murph thinks he has "a few good years left in him to play" his best meal ticket is at Carlton - too old to be traded for anything really meaningful.

Disagree. Get himself up to GWS and he'd be laughing all the way to a premiership. If he stays at Carlton it'll be touch and go whether he's there when we're contending.
