Would be pretty funny if half way through the season, pick #2 (whoever it may be) is dominating the midfield and we didn't have to give up the farm for Kelly.

Some are being a little too hasty, almost throwing it away. Almost begging GWS to take it....

Yeah. I'd be equally happy going to the draft as long as we can bring in a next tier down ready to go midfielder and another solid depth midfielder somewhere. Hopper and ... ?

Lets have a look at our "reluctant and insignificant leader" shall we. In a tough season where we have won 5 out of 19 games Marc Murphy has been voted in the best 5 players on the ground by the coaches (clearly people who don't know as much as us keyboard warriors) in 14 games (yes 14) including four of the last 5. Bloke has played his heart out more and more in a role that doesn't suit him (inside mid) due to injuries. I personally think that he deserves better than this rubbish.

You've got me with keyboard warrior. Nothing to do with observation, intuition, understanding........just a keyboard warrior.
Let's continue to nurture our players under Murphys strength of character and leadership until his mid thirties. No problem.

He's played in a role that doesn't suit him you say. Which role should we manufacture to suit him then?
It's a nice sentiment you bring forward, but we don't want to be about being nice. We want to be about being winners and have to step up to being so.

We should at least apply for a PP, Brisbane will be and that way the it will be harder for the AFL to screw with us.
Even if they give us one at the end of first round, that pick would be very handy come trade time.
Also many insure that we do get band 2 compo for Levi, the same way it helped Melbourne with the Frawley compo.
When you are down the bottom end of the ladder for 2-3 years, you should definitely be putting the hand up for PP's, plenty to be gained, if we do have another similar year next year, by applying for a PP this year even if it is rejected, AFL will be more likely to hand one over.

Mooney was AA that year and Hawkins was still one of the best KF. Just like Roughead and Franklin have been in Hawthorns teams.
Hawthorn didn't have 3 elite KF's but they did have 3 elite forwards in Rioli, Gunston and Roughy and they were much more dominant then their midfield was.

Cyril played 12 games in 2014 and only 15 games in 2013. In 2015, Roughead kicked 25 goals less than 2014, still ended up with 50 but that isn't what you'd get from an elite kf. Gunston was consistent but at the end of the day it was in fact their midfield that lead to their success, not their forward line.

I don't care if Moonee was AA he was NOT an elite kf. Neither was Hawkins. Still 3 flags.

So it's possible for us to have pick 18(pp), 19 (casboult compo) and 20 (second round pick). That would be awesome.

I'll go with the coaches' assessments when it comes to his value to the team. Everything that comes out of the club, be that from a coach or the other players, tells me they value his contribution highly.

I included myself in the keyboard warrior category, it was designed to show that the coaches appear to rate Murph more highly than many on here. I think that many believe that Murph would tear apart a 50% outside mid/50% forward flank role which would be for the betterment of the team however with the injuries we have had he has to play inside mid. I suspect that he will be top 2 B & F if not win it. I have seen you only quote pressure acts stats once for Murph when the number was low, and yet no mention when he had team highs like 2 weeks ago when he had 38. I have been proud of Murphs efforts this year.
The whole "nice sentiment" thing is a lot of rubbish - it's an interesting tactic to paint yourself as one of the "tough" talkers to allow yourself to dismiss everyone else as "nice" but it has no relevance to this discussion.
I don't think that Murph will be captain next year but believe that he will be a significant contributor to the club (I could be wrong though).
The sad part is that I respect you as a poster and on nearly every subject agree with you however I believe that your "reluctant and insignificant" comments diminish you rather than Marc Murphy.

Agree it's justified and I think AFL will at least give us PP, if we finish with another spoon that 2 in 3 years and it's as bad as it can get . A pick 18 or 19 is no skin off their nose and will help us in the trading.

Yes picks 18 & 19 are possible not sure we'll win another game unfortunately and the Lions have 2 Gabba games from last 3.
A weakened Suns and the Roos last game of the season both winnable so they'll surpass us.
So we may get the spoon then PP 18 and 19 for the Bolt.

Consider the way the draft value index dives quickly from 1 to 10, then 10 to 20. Such as it tends to be in the talent pool, and in life: there are few exceptional individuals, for a variety of reasons, and in a market of finite resources and budgets the difference they can make sees people clambouring over the top of each other for their services.

As I've said before today, and since this post, Whitfield is not much chop as a #1 pick. I'd be surprised if he ever becomes an All-Australian, and he's not going to change games on his own. Uses the ball well, and doesn't **** up, but rarely breaks the game open, just finishes the team's work well and consistently (1 goal assist a game this season).

Watch him play, and you'll realise he plays like Gibbs, if Gibbs had never shown any contested ability. He was touted highly based on his running ability and ball use, and the hope that he would put size on his frame and win more inside ball. He never did.

Careful everyone Jim has said this previously, doesn't like to have to repeat himself

So anyone know why we haven't re-signed Cuningham yet when we have signed all our other kids?

He's a VIC boy so not like he's homesick...and being a second year mid we wouldn't be looking to trade him.
Is there a sticking point over money perhaps?

'Now having the contacts in the AFL. I just love the lifestyle that they live'

Interesting comment in hindsight

"I wanna be rich, get bitches and do coke"

These are the core values that Bolton emphasises on his tassie trips with the young players.

Marc Murphy fan bois are the most rusted on of them all. Curious.
we are all spending a fair bit of time on an internet forum due to our love of a football club that has not had one modicum of success in this century. sadly i suspect that makes us all "fan bois".
showing respect to a player that has shown nothing but respect to our club does not put you at a higher level of "fan boisdom".

The fact that our Coach has given Marc Murphy votes in close to 14 odd games is about the biggest/only thing that worries me about our coach.

Little blokes stick fat i spose.

Docherty/Cripps Leadership in 2018 thanks Brendan.
My god, you've done it.

You've posted your dumbest opinion yet.
