I'm too lazy to start a 2017 membership thread, so here will do..Essential Power memberships will no longer have MCG members reserve access.

mod note: new thread started anyway

this is the email I got...

Thank you for being a 2016 Essential Power member.

I am writing to you to advise that the reciprocal rights agreement between AFL Membership and the Port Adelaide Football Club has ceased effective Season 2017.

The reciprocal rights had been an inclusion in the Essential Power package as a layover from when it was an SANFL membership at AAMI Stadium.

This means that Essential Power membership cards will no longer provide access to the AFL Members Reserve at the MCG for any matches.

The primary factors for this change were:

  • to reduce capacity issues in the Adelaide Oval Western Stand by preventing AFL Members from having free access

  • to streamline benefits across all Port Adelaide Football Club membership packages which had been inconsistent since management of Essential Power memberships was transferred to the club in Season 2013
We love the support our people bring to our away matches and will be working with opposition clubs and away venues to create easy ticketing options to encourage our members and supporters to sit together and generate the electric atmosphere Port Adelaide is renowned for.

Your 2017 renewal will arrive by email and mail by the end of the month and we look forward to assisting you with renewing your membership of the Port Adelaide Football Club in 2017.

got the same email re: essential power being downgraded.

I've only used that benefit a handful of times over the course, so no huge loss.

But its a piece of value and wondering what value they will add to the mix? better not lose the SANFL entry!

wonder if there'll now be a reciprocal agreement with Etihad, now that the AFL owns the stadium, whenever we play in Victoria, we play there more anyway

26,000,000 or bust.

By the year 2025 no Australian will live without a Port Adelaide membership.

True, I read it somewhere.

I will stick this in here seeing its the official membership thread, but our target should be 65,000 which would mean 57,000 audited members and we would still be tracking the Hawks growth nicely from their decline off field ie making a PF in 2001 and then finishing 15th, 2nd bottom in 2004, which is similar to out GF in 2007 and then finishing 2nd bottom in 2011. But we gotta start making finals and top 4 to stay on track. Oh and do what the Hawks do and make all kids passes $51 so they count as members and access members by giving them GA games rights

the key will be to sell non attendance memberships to supporters, this is where our growth will come from.

the novelty with AO hasn't worn off at all, it is the premier sporting oval in this state and people will want to attend for that reason alone.

That's not even funny any more ! , we keep going the way we are that nightmare could return.
It won't happen under Kochie, it's just a figment of the Crows supporters collective imagination, along with the 70/30 divide, an AFL reserves league, SANFL integrity, Port being the only AFL club that's ever received financial assistance or Dangerfield ever playing for their club in 2016

I reckon the tally we be about the same in 2017 , we repeat the last 2 seasons then a drop off to 55k , then 45k , then Hinkley finally gets the bullet , after we lose millions .

even still, how would it work at Adelaide Oval?

the general admission seating is on the upper levels there, unlike at AAMI, which was the outer, so that kinda defeats the purpose of having them, no TV exposure for advertising, the lower levels of Adelaide Oval are 1/3 undercover, again defeats the purpose

there is no contract with Media Nest, who made them (source: ex girlfriend used to work there, they make all kinds of advertising material)

these days, there are teams in Victoria who've got way worse attendance levels than Port do

and unlike AAMI, AO is central, easily accessible by public transport, even if Port are doing shit, at least I can go for a beer at the GDV after the game

so let me reiterate, it's not going to happen, it's just shit talk and assumption from sad miserable morons who Nick Ryan perfectly described in his recent article

The novelty wearing off Adelaide Oval? Where do people pull this stuff from? There is no novelty and never was. People simply enjoy going to the football at a city based stadium far more than they did at that outer suburban shithole. The state government probably could have re-build Football Park in the city location and the crowds would have flocked.

Happy to be wrong, but it won't surprise me if there is a drop off in memberships next season.
I envisage there will be a fair number who joined in the last season or so, sitting back and waiting to see what happens in the first 4 or 5 rounds of 2017, before they commit.

Even if the novelty is wearing off, the demand for seats will probably still exceed availability so we won't be seeing much impact if at all on crowd numbers. Attendance will be determined by team performance, time slot and opposition club far more than novelty.
