Jack Redden might be another one in that Swallow / Shiels mould. No preseason last year, but apparently niggle free and TTHD this year.
Would have been high on my list if not for them getting Mitchell.

Scott Selwood would be another one. He'd be the riskiest option.

Redden can SC but his role at West Coast doesn't suite his see ball get ball game style.

Mitchell might be a little more outside and Shuey will be free'd up a bit more too.

Priddis and Sheed will do the majority of the ground clearance work. So based on that there is a spot for Redden to play on the ball and in the contest. He's useless otherwise.
Really comes down to how Simmo uses him and if he realises his limitations and plays him on the ball.

I'm starting to like the idea of starting Shiels, backing him to get off to a flyer, then trade him to Gray after Ports bye. Can anyone see an issue with this besides the risk of Shiels not starting well?
Rumors circulating he may become captain if Hodgey decides to pass it on.
Not sure if that would help or hinder but it is suggested that with Mitch and Lewis gone it has given a number of the younger guys a chance to get their voice out there and confidence is high with these guys.
Have felt in the past that Liam did tend to take a back seat and played within himself. When he wants to exert his influence on a game he can and being a tackling machine the potential for points is there.
Would be a brave pick, but not unfounded.

No idea if it's credible, but that Trade Whisperer on twitter re Swallow, JOM:

Trade Whisperer is absolutely awful. It's just trolling + opinion + making up stuff.

I thought this guy was gonna piss off after he amassed x amount of followers. He spouted so much rubbish in the off season and my numpty mates were taking it as gospel. Unbearable.

There's even a rumour that Burgoyne is heading back to Port next year to play one season then coach ala Mitchell at West Coast.
This has been addressed on the Hawks board. Burger has no interest in coaching, is happily settled in Melbourne and is has a job lined up at the afl after retiring. Hawks want him to play another year after this if he is fit and wants to go again in 2018.

Yeah its an odd one dropped by Pilko on 5AA of all places

Gary Ablett, To Start or Upgrade Target, Implications of the Round 9 Bye

*if it turns out you must field 22 in R9*

If Ablett averages:
125: 125 R1-8, 70 R9 (rookie on field) = 118.8

120: 120 R1-8, 70 R9 (rookie) = 114.4

115: 115 R1-8, 70 R9 (rookie) = 110

Given injury risk, the above is making me lean towards bringing in Gaz after his R9 bye. Won't cost you as many points if he explodes given you'll have an extra premo R9 over those that do have him.

Although, it's worth considering if he does average 125 he will be closer to 700k by R9.

Thoughts?

I wasn't going to pick him, but he becomes more likely every day.
As I see it, you will be playing a rookie in place of all of your premos whenever they have their bye, so as long as you don't have too many from Port/GC it won't matter in that regard (I also like Lynch).
Gary could well come out firing with big scores at the start (think it's more likely than him ending well) and is some chance to pull out a big ~200 in the first 8 rounds IMO.

I swore at the end of last season that his days are done and he'll never be SC relevent again but I keep ending up with him in my team every second iteration...

I already have Fyfe/Rocky in my starting line up so it will be pretty hard to justify starting all 3 given recent injury histories.
