My top 10. - LDU could end up 1 or 2 depending on how he goes from here. Starcevich unlucky.

Naughton
Brayshaw
LDU
Taylor
Allen
Fritch
Rayner
Kelly
Higgins
Powell
Oscar Allen before Fritsch? I strongly disagree with this. Fritsch has kicked 55 and 59 goals in the last 2 years and made the AA squad. Allen has done nothing to get anywhere near the AA squad in the last couple of years.

If stats were the only thing that mattered Gary Rohan wouldn't have played 10 games in the AFL.
Gary Rohan is a highly criticised player though because his inconsistency has plagued him his whole career. Comparing Rayner to Rohan is a fair comparison. Rayner didn't make it as a forward so they trialed him in the middle. He failed there so they tried to move him back. He failed there so they moved him back forward again and he has been average there. Not bad, not good. At least Gary Rohan chases. Rayner is horrific defensively, not to mention he can't find the football. I'd take him at pick 24 from the 2017 draft and that's based purely on upside. Not what he has delivered thus far.

My point is that using stats to justify a players performance is not that useful (in my opinion). You have used goal kicking stats to justify why Fritch is better than Allen, but, apart from playing in the forward line, they are completely different players. Does Fritch ruck for example?

I agree that stats aren't the be all and end all but Fritsch kicked 6 in a grand final and almost won a norm smith and is arguably the best hybrid forward in the league. I think for Allen to be in the top 10 conversation he needs to get into the AA squad a couple of times first. Allen has had a good 9 games. He doesn't play ruck either. He's had 1 hitout all year. I do recognise that he's playing for a worse team which does make his performances more commendable.

you have baker, bailey and moore in your top 10 posted a few pages back

how many AA squads have those 3 made?

Allen is a gun who missed the year he was going to take the next big step due to injury. I think he will easily be in the top 10 of this draft if he gets a good run with injury when everything is said and done

He's being played forward a bit so you realistically wouldn't expect him to be putting up midfield numbers. What I like about him is he's an impact player. He has the power to burst from a pack with a handball or kick - and that has to be of higher value than the accumulators of the game.
agree 100% with this

True. The list isn't rigid. but how do you measure someone who hits form at 25 versus someone who has played consistent good football for 7 years beforehand? The body of work needs to be considered too right? If Allen hits his straps at 25, does that completely offset the 6 years prior where he was just an ok player with upside?

Even with Max Gawn it took him 7 years just to be a regular best 22 player. So as good as he's been, half of his career he wasn't contributing.

I no longer have Stephenson number 1. Nathan Murphy is my new number 1

Still prefer BZT over Ballard eth-dog?
Honestly barely seen the sun's all season but apparently having a great year. I've always seen him more as a medium ala Ridley and Zerk as an actual key defender.

Ballard has been a better 1v1 defender than Collins this year. Averages more 1v1s and wins more. He is an actual KPD.
Being a defender and a Suns player, he is close to the most underrated player in the comp

Not a bad draft. In fact an extremely deep draft. If you could go back in time, how would you place the order now? Who do you think I've been harsh on? Who do you think I've been too generous on. Create your own list (top 10, 20, 30 or 40)

Has TDK ever played a very good game though? The amount of hype is so disproportionate to his output
He's easily the most overrated player on Carlton's list. Which is the most overrated list in the AFL.
