I am surprised we dont seem to have any Category B rookies , other teams are trying them on their list , must be a few potential gems still?

I think it’s hard to get the best Irish or American prospects over here when they could go to Melbourne or Sydney. Outside of Brisbane with Pearce Hanley I can barely see a single overseas player that’s come good.

With the three year non registered rule most of the guys approach AFL clubs and unless they are either from WA there’s little chance of getting them either.

With NGA they’ve got to be in our zone. These two are in are in our Next Generation Academy. Carter will have to be on the senior list if we want him though. No idea how good Medhat is though but he’s ours if we want him.

There’s a few more players in our NGA that are born 2001 or later.

Need to point out accuracy of Chris 25 here.... This year early in the season during April when discussions about news draft crop started, I was browsing every week to find out which players do well under 18... In each state... I found name of Stefan giro every week among best in league and reserves with 25-30possessions,and 1-2 goals average.. I was so impressed that I asked Chris 25 in young talent time thread, about giro. He replied giro is very player and crowd entertaining is the best in SA as he is more hurting than giro but also said crowen will go around 50s and giro go very late or rookie..... That's what exactly happened... Chris 25.....he is a legend.....
Yeah he's not bad Chris25 is he. I like that he is not only astute, but he throws in stuff from off-centre that fits quite well. Likes being a bit provocative, and isn't trying to be an actual psuedo List Manager. Always a good read.

Seconded. Chris25 was pretty bang on this year. And as an added benefit we're not big fans of his arch nemesis Knightmare after his D+ rating of our drafting. With WC getting a 'B' it really is laughable.
D+ is crazy. Thought Knightmare may have been having a laugh, but he doesn't reveal much of a sense of humour in his posts. I think this draft threw a few of the Phantom posters because it was constantly reported as "shallow" when I actually think it was more "flat".

I am pretty happy with who we found anyway, with the only real question mark being about the two rucks, and especially because they are physically quite similar to Darcy. Struggle to see two of them in the same side.

I did much better with our picks this year. I was big on Hugh Dixon all season. Picked Lloyd Meek and Stefan Giro in the BF Draft, only didn't take Mitch Crowden because he was picked before I could, and had Tom North shortlisted for one of my picks. And Bailey Banfield was my top pick as a rookie. I suppose I was due for a good year.

I think we've given ourselves every chance to find success with this years drafting.

.... He has his own view about a player which may not match with other mock draft analysts like Knightmare.... But often matches with those of recruiters

Yeah I feel a bit the same way. Two more picks with likely role player ceilings. I do like Banfield and Giro but they've got a long journey ahead to ever get a game. I thought we might take a couple of speculatives/project players as well. Although pretty much all the clubs seemed to go 'safe' with their picks this time around. North with Narrier the only slight outlier perhaps? They all seem happy to wait to see how they develop in the State leagues rather than taking any risk. No doubt we'll see a number of names who missed out this year being selected over the next couple of drafts.

The concern I have is players with attributes more suited to AFL vs State league football not ever getting an opportunity. Garlett getting picked up by Carlton is possibly a good example. IMO he's the kind of player that suits AFL far better than WAFL. Still a strange selection making a guy leave his home state when he returned home a year earlier because he needed the support of his family close by. But put that aside I kind of get why they took him despite his poor WAFL form this year.

The rookie list has changed with the new rules. So now it’s where you have depth players, almost ready to go if required.
