Seems to be very loopy with his kicks though. It's not an issue in front of goals but it's not ideal for field kicking
Agree, it's like he hooks his foot under the ball sometimes. Very unusual foot action.

If Martin departs this year, then I agree with getting a replacement in.

However, I don't believe we should be recruiting a mature ruckman if Martin stays. We should assess our options when Martin looks like retiring. If one of Archie or Oscar are ready, then we're set. If not, every year, 3-4 established ruckmen are available for trade so we should wait until we have to replace Martin and not try and pre-empt it.
time wise martin is redundant for us playing consistently in finals series(2020 onwards) and hopefully grandfinals
all our players should be viewed for their performance capability from that time.
no more duds, please

North might reckon Goldstein is just about spent. Martin has a body that's more likely to last a couple of years at least while Preuss develops.

Given North's inside strength and outside weakness, spending on an older ruck-mid as they go into a rebuild seems it would be an odd list management decision. Spending peanuts on a fringe tap ruckman to tide them over would seem more appropriate to their position if Goldstein is cooked.

yes my hope too. in fact i'm in the 10 to 13 zone and would payout the contracts of lester bell paparone and bewick(3 prefer).i would also happily delist another 10.happy to also trade out rocky martn and especally rich to perth or anywhere.
we would be much better off as a squad of players to develop and a team to pick and play each week
the prime time for our players is 2020 onwards
Lester is highly regarded by the coaches and players. And I think he adds value. No chance he is going.

Just get a ruckman that can kick well inside 50. Please.
Apart from Goldstein, no such player exists. What are you even on about?
Besides, most ruckmen are rarely in a position to do anything other than bomb it inside 50 because they can't get into the positions Martin does.

Agree that we are 3+ years off being a contending team, and we will need a significant list turnover before then, but wouldn't you agree that having that list turnover occur all in one off-season would be detrimental considering the limited number quality of players it is possible to bring in during one off season, and two more very poor seasons would likely see a mass exodus of talent as a large number of players come out of contract in 2019?

Yes, because 'most' ruckmen cannot move themselves a few steps to the right or left and kick the ball inside 50 properly? Are you serious? Stef isn't the only ruck with uncontested inside 50 entries.

Besides, what's the point? He butchers absolutely everything he touches. In terms of importance to the team, I think we can survive without him.

Conversely the quicker Fagan gets the players he wants the quicker we improve. Assessments have been made, the turnover this year I think will be significant. We can then stabilise next year.

Okay agree the turnover this year will be significant, but I doubt we will deliberately offload 4 senior players such as Rich, Rockliff, Martin and Lester in the same year. With the number of quality senior players wanting to come our way likely small, that sort of exodus of senior leaders I think would leave us in the bottom 2 for 2 more seasons at least, and instigate a player exodus come 2019.

Send Stef to Doggies for 26 (with some pick shuffles later on to bring that value down a few spots).

Then send 26 to Adelaide for Cameron. Which I think is about right.

If the club thinks Archie is ready for 2018, then I think turning a nearly 31 year old Stef into a 23 year old Cameron would be smart trading for our list demographic.

Off the top of my head
OOC: Eagles, Freeman, Close, Hammelmann, William, Grewar, Jansen, CBeams, Harwood, Clayton, Hinge, Hanley
Contracted: Bell, Frost, Bewick, Paparone, Dawson, Lyons, Keays, Martin, Schache

These players could realistically all go this off season if you could find better prospects to replace each player in the draft/rookie draft/trade/free agency. But I think it would be an unwise move to ship out core senior players aged 27 and under.

Archie strikes me as someone who is extremely committed to becoming a better player. Plays full of effort every time. If he can sort out his tapping issues and not over commit on leaps, he'll be the Stef replacement we'll need (if he leaves).

Can't see Keays going anywhere

Dreaming if you think we'll get 26 for Stefan Martin.

He's got what 3 years left maybe? 4 if you're lucky.

He's an old man. Old men aren't worth squat in the AFL

Joel Patfull got pick 21 and only played 2 more seasons.
1. Joel Patfull was a significantly better player.

2. GWS were able to pay well overs due to the fact they had such a glut of young talent and picks.

3. Joel was also 29 when traded IIRC not 31.

4. Joel also did not have the career injury history that Stefan has.

So old men are sometimes worth squat?

and in my opinion he should have been delisted at end of previous contract and have seen nothing to alter that view.
further if mitch and allen were available he wouldnt get a game.next year there will be several new players that will be good enough to demand playing time, developing players need priority.the year after it happens all over again.
what i would do, you would do, Briztoon would do and what the club will do-i imagine are all different
the less we do, the longer it will take.yeah thats my assessment of the list, merely and only
i am serious and definitely not trying to be controversial.
