Just had a squiz at the Dogs' draft position and at present they have picks 26 & 39.

Funnily enough, I posted this in another thread the other day.
My GM move would be dangling Stef on the market.

Rationale:
  • A gap is beginning to emerge between his best and worst footy.
  • Archie 'should' go ahead of him next season & McInerney looks likely.
  • He will be 31 next season - get some currency out of him while we can.
The problem with my grand plan is there isn't a market for ruckmen this year. No one is desperately crying out for a position that's seemingly becoming less important and additionally there are probably better options available - Goldstein or Preuss.

But if someone took a particular fancy for Martin I'd welcome a late second/early third round pick - bank the points for Ballenden and try to move up from 18.
26 for Martin probably isn't far off. Might involve a pick swap that moves the Dogs up the order in either the third or fourth rounds but it's certainly feasible.

Suggested this on the draft/trading/FA board-

Stefan Martin to the Bulldogs for Lukas Webb and pick 39. I really like the bits I have seen of Webb and 39 could come in handy for matching a Ballenden bid.

Take Mason Cox at pick 1 in the PSD.

Would take that in a heart beat lions fans! Win-win.

Lion star seeking move to Victoria
By SEN 25 minutes ago

A former Brisbane Lions best and fairest winner is seeking a move back home to Victoria, according to former St Kilda chief executive Brian Waldron.

Stefan Martin, who finished third in total hitouts this season, is the Lion in demand, and family reasons have linked the Berwick native back to Melbourne.

“Stefan Martin would like to come back to Melbourne for family reasons,” Waldron told SEN’s Hungry For Sport.

“His partner is a Melbourne girl and she would like to move back here, because she is in the entrainment industry. That’s why that is potentially going to happen.”

Martin is a Sandringham Dragons product and was drafted with the third pick in the 2007 pre-season draft by the Demons. He played for Melbourne up until 2012, before moving to Brisbane in 2013.

The 30-year-old has played 79 games for the Lions and won the 2015 Merrett–Murray Medal.

Over the last couple of days, it has been reported Brisbane, who hold the first overall pick in November’s national draft, are interested in Collingwood ruckman Mason Cox.

If Martin departs this year, then I agree with getting a replacement in.

However, I don't believe we should be recruiting a mature ruckman if Martin stays. We should assess our options when Martin looks like retiring. If one of Archie or Oscar are ready, then we're set. If not, every year, 3-4 established ruckmen are available for trade so we should wait until we have to replace Martin and not try and pre-empt it.

Pretty rare to find a ruckman with good foot skills these days. Paddy ryder and Nankervis are the only ones I can think of currently playing. Nankervis would've been a great get. Richmond would be stoked

That's what has impressed me so far about big O, seems pretty handy in front of goals....

Could end up trading the pick we get for martin for charlie cameron.

Wouldn't be bad business if we can get Mason Cox cheap as well. PSD threat might actually hold weight for an uncontracted rookie.

Didn't realise Cox was a rookie. We could offer Freeman as a trade and if they don't like it, just take him in the PSD. Collingwood meant to need tall forwards (eg Crameri), so Freeman might fill a need.

I will be surprised if at least 10 aren't rolled off the senior and rookie lists, including trades.
yes my hope too. in fact i'm in the 10 to 13 zone and would payout the contracts of lester bell paparone and bewick(3 prefer).i would also happily delist another 10.happy to also trade out rocky martn and especally rich to perth or anywhere.
we would be much better off as a squad of players to develop and a team to pick and play each week
the prime time for our players is 2020 onwards

What's more hilarious about including that is it's a comment from the former St Kilda CEO.

Maybe they can ask the Etihad janitorial supervisor for their next hot quote.
Shouldn't it read "disgraced former St Kilda CEO"?

What about going after Tom Nicholls or Daniel Currie from the Suns. They've falling behind Witts as the Suns main ruckman might want a trade for more game time.
