Fagan has been pretty consistent with his talk about our list since he first got here. Draft being our main focus with our rebuild. We aren't looking for a flag in 3 years, we are trying to build something that will last long term, and that will take some time. Outside of that, we will look at FA and trades, but **** has been consistent in saying players from other clubs need to basically be best 22 players. They need to improve the team and the list, not just be filler. Because we are looking long term at rebuilding the list via the draft, we will develop our own depth.

Noble also said trade for needs and draft for talent. So I think we will have a few gaps to fill through trading.

It is interesting that this Lobbe talk keeps coming up. Doesn't seem like we are really chasing him, but maybe covering bases. I don't think we would go after another ruck if we still had Martin, and Lobbe is looking to move for more opportunity. In saying that Martin doesn't seem like he is going either. However, whilst happy to stay, Martin is one who would look at going back to Melbourne if a good opportunity came up. Perhaps he is getting interest and we are just keeping our options open.

If Rocky nets us 18 then I hope we give #19 to the crows. He has had a terrible year except for a really good game in the PF. We need to be ruthless in trading and always give them the worse trade. I remember when Doc got gifted to Carlton, they gavve us (can't remember which pick) and they also had anpther pick 2 or 3 places higher iirc. Course they were too stubborn to give us that one.

I am surprised that Cameron hasn't been interviewed to see what he wants yet. Schache has been interviewed heaps of times and his manager but l can't recall any conversation from Cameron or his manager

There is, and if the right person comes up you can fast trade the list development. It does just depend on who is available when for trade though. I think the point from his was more so if the person isn't right, we are happy to go to the draft. They won't try force a trade for a player for the sake of fast tracking.

Cameron is under contract, Doc wasn't.

So we lose our Rocky compensation for another Frost?
I'm not suggesting we pick up Trengrove.

I was just replying with a hypothetical what if.

Heck, we could still pick up Trengrove after the trade and free agency period and the draft, so nothing is compromised.

Rumours is that Lobbe is on a sizeable contract hence Port's eagerness to trade him. I wonder if we could take him on plus a decent chunk of his contract in return for Port giving Rockliff more money to boost the compensation. #wishfulthinking

Wouldn't mind that, we take over say half the contract of Lobbe and they up the offer to band 1

Pretty much along the lines of what I was going to reply.

We can't trade in players who don't want to come here, nor are we going to trade in list cloggers any more.

If the right player becomes available, then we will look at a trade.

I also took that as a shot at the acquisition of Bell, Frost, Jansen, Bastinac and Walker. Only the last two have given us anything and I still feel they are fringe players.

If that is the scenario, I'm guessing Port will expect us to pay Lobbe's entire contract if they upping Rockliff's contract.

Has been some talk of this. Lobbe will be good for 3 or 4 years while Oscar and Archie develop. Also all this Hickey and Lobbe talk might suggest there is something to the Martin rumour.

Look at the peak ruckmen ages in the AFL. And look how quickly ruckmen fall off the cliff - Goldstein, Minson etc. Lobbe would be a great get.

I’m just trying to understand why anybody would suggest picking him up

Lobbe hasn't played seniors for a year. Not sure why we would be interested unless Stef is likely to leave. Even then, seems like a stop gap measure at best to me.

I'm not keen on Lobbe but having said that Stef was a stop gap ruckmen between Luey and Longer when we got him.

Lobbe clearly doesn't get in enough street fights to satisfy the prerequisites of being a ruck for Port.

GWS you’d assume is one. Gold Coast may need a backup if they move on Nicholls. Maybe we’re delisting Archie?

Now thats an interesting thought if they feel the big o has gone past him. Unlikely though.

How does it work? Can Port frontload Rockliffs 1st year to get it to a certain amount so Brisbane get the best possible compo or is it average salary over the whole contract?

If you guys take on Lobbes 2 year contract (He'd eat the NEAFL for breakfast) then surely we'd have no problems making sure you get the best compo possible.
