According to the Herald Sun (for what it is worth), Fasolo doesn't want to move back to Perth and wants to stay at Pies.

If that’s a case then we should have a go for matera.. Need small forwards to support Kennedy

True, but when you look at midfielder/small forwards taken around those picks, not just pick 8 in isolation it tells a different story

2011: 11 - Greene, 13 - Adams, 14 - Devon Smith, 15- Jones
2012: Was a terrible draft apart from Wines at 7
2013: 11- Sheed, 13 - Cripps, 15 - Jones
2014: 10 -Cockatoo, 13- Weller
2015: 11 - Milera, 12 - Curnow, 15 - Rioli
2016: Too early to tell

There's plenty of value for a trade involving Gaff there and that's without mentioning any of the talls taken around that mark and there have been some very good ones. I don't think losing Gaff is going to affect us overly much, other players will step up. I mean sure we'll miss his running but he's turned into an average kick and constantly runs himself into trouble on his right foot. He has too many flaws to be considered a top-line wing imo.
I'd definitely want Acres back though in any trade involving Gaff, no doubt the Saints would want something extra to make that happen as 8 & Acres for Gaff seems too heavily weighed in our balance.

I'm not against either of them if they were dirt cheap but neither Fasolo or Matera are that good we should be chasing them that hard. I think we could find more exciting small forwards through the draft if we actually focused on this for a change (we did last year and seem to be this year after 10 or so years of neglect).

Got me thinking..how would we actually match up versus the "experts" if we had to chose players before the draft? Would there be a way to set up poles before the draft on who we should take with the picks we have? Obviously we would have to rank a bunch of players because they could potentially be gone by the time our pick comes along. Would be fun to view in s few years time to see how well we did.

Unfortunately Carlton would see Cripps as their next captain, so would be unlikely to trade him unless he was out of contract and determined to leave. Even then they'd be playing hard ball.

Shame though, he's a jet and it'd be great to return the favour for Judd!

That's why it's always fun doing the phantom draft...Look back over the years and see how you did with the picks you had available.

I think Monocle would do pretty well. I reckon where most of us would fall down is not having enough knowledge of the interstate players. It really is a crapshoot which is why I'm so against the way we've used the rookie draft in particular. There are so many good players who've come off the rookie list over the years because the draft is quite hit and miss that I I think we need to give ourselves as many chances as possible. This business of picking up other teams failed scraps or dumping our rubbish players on there for a few years until we delist them has seriously compromised the team imo.

The future second and 33 pretty much cancel each other out though. Not against getting Hall, particularly if we trade Gaff. Probably need to be the future second & Masten for Hall to get it done imo, maybe a 4th rounder or something coming back to us.

Slightly worried Matera is going to be better in the long run than Faz, if indeed both clubs get the trade done. Id like to bet Matera comes cheaper as well

They'd be banking on us sliding down the ladder though to make it worth the difference. I honestly think with Nic Nat back and with a quicker midfield we'll finish around the same as this year.

They say that every year though about next years draft being stronger. Just saying that he's worth more than Masten and 5 pick upgrade that they'll have to wait a year for
