Fair enough, it is difficult enough to predict values and at least it provides some subjectivity. Ultimately every model has some flaws.Check out @HurlingPeople’s Tweet:
It drops the value of players quite significantly as they get older. Yeo 24 v Martin 26 is the main reason for this. Hence why Duggan is so highly rated.
Yep but that’s not exciting. And we want to get excited.
If not traded, criticise club for not making the right decision.
if that future pick doesn’t work out, criticise the club for not making the right decision.
If that future pick does work out, criticise the club for not making even more trades. Or criticise the player for not being A+ grade.
But trading is damn exciting, like gambling. And nothing is more exciting than going all in and risking it all. Building something does not compute.

Fair call. They've only just officially launched their rating system. Hopefully they refine it.Haha in that case it's got no practical use.
So tell me BOND 007. You don't think a club has never told a player they are recruiting that they value him highly, will eventually get the deal done but for the best interests of the club and the list which in turn effects their chance of success they will be doing their best to get him for as cheap as possible?
It's not that said player isn't worth a first it's that why give up a first when a second might do if they play hardball?
Did Port Adelaide stand firm with Ryder? a player they desperately wanted? I'm pretty sure it was Essendon who relented before the deadline because Port stood firm. Should Port has caved in to Essendons demands and given over Ollie Wines or Chad Wingard as Essendon requested?
The Suns demanded two first round picks for Dixon which is insane. Should they have given into Gold Coast or were they right to play hardball until such a time a fair deal could be done?
How about the Ebert deal. Could Port have offered us pick 28 and a player? How about a second and third round pick? Or did they use their leverage to secure a good player for as cheap as possible.
I could even use the Polec trade as an example as well which took almost all of trade period to get done.
From where i sit Port seem to be doing just fine standing firm when it comes to trades, the club isn't treated like a Leper colony, no players have walked away that they have publicly gone after regardless of whether it takes until the last day of trade period to get the deal done. I don't see any hurt feelings. Just players who are informed correctly of the situation. They seem to be doing extremely well as now Rockliff wants to join them this year as well.
Your attitude is a reflection of how timid West Coast are as a club. Don't offend the player because god knows we struggle to attract talent as it is, just get it done and because we're such good chaps hopefully other clubs will reward us for it down the track. I mean heaven help us if we made a player wait a few more days to get to the club.
Ah Chee is probably worth around a late third third but a fourth should get it done. He has been in the system long enough, has hardly played, is out of contract and despite what Port claim is not required and is nothing more than depth. But sure lets give them our third without trying to force the issue with our fourth.
That's what you're saying right?
Let's get serious here, It's not about revenge, it's not about what they "owe" us. It's just good business.
I'm not advocating that we become notoriously difficult to deal with like Essendon but we don't have to get the deal done a.s.a.p every bloody year without seeing whats the best we can do.
Maybe our recruiters and trading department just aren't up to scratch.
But we don't have pick 88 this year...BTW - before you get your knickers in a knot - I reckon you'll be pleasantly surprised at what someone like AhChee will ultimately cost WC.
Hi Bond, was just curious to know if the club has shown any interest in Jack Trengove, personally would love to have him in our side, I know it's unlikely he can recapture the trajectory he initially demonstrated but would be a great great story if he didWhere to start???
Clubs tell players how important they are all the time & try to lowball their previous club. Stardard operating procedure - who wants to pay more than somethings worth.
2 things
1) what you consider something is worth is different to mine
2) a 1st round pick is worth far far more than a 2nd round which is exponentially worth more than a 3rd round pick and so on. The examples you provided were basically all high profile players involving 1 or multiple 1st round picks hardly the same as arguing between pick 28 & 31 or 49 & 67. Sure I'd rather than 49 than 67 bit its hardly a train wreck.

Unfortunately we are going to get screwed over and will end up bending over at the negotiation table coughing up pick 85.But we don't have pick 88 this year...
Ah Chee for a 20pack of Winnie blues?Where to start???

Ah Chee for a blow up crowd so they don't have to use tarps?Ah Chee for a 20pack of Winnie blues?
Neckminnut, Vozzo comes out and we're using pick 30 on AhCheeBTW - before you get your knickers in a knot - I reckon you'll be pleasantly surprised at what someone like AhChee will ultimately cost WC.
Think that would cost two much.Ah Chee for a blow up crowd so they don't have to use tarps?
to someone who cant kick, to someone who was played ahead of guys like koby stevens who has become a somewhat more successful player than mc****ennuggets.
players should be given games for two things skill and effort. not cos they have a bit of heart but cant kick to save their life
and if i had the right qualifications to do his job i reckon id do a better job . for starters with the drafting and also with the moving away of priddis from the midfield back in 15 not try to coerce him into 2018 for shits and giggles
You talk about not using retorspect to gauge how Wellingham turned out and yet you use it to describe the draft in which we gave up our pick. Can't have it both ways mate.
Nah im Scott lycett. Just in a shitty with you thinking that you think vardy is better than me. I cry
Bontempelli, Petrevski-Seton, Oliver and Powell-Pepper (worth pick 1+16/17)No player is worth pick #1 apparently, let alone multiple first rounders. I think there's big flaws in over-rating value of picks vs established players.

Looks like we were working on it in the overtime Elimination Final!

Whats not exciting is losing Gaff to free agency and ending up with pick 19 when 12 months earlier we could have got a much better trade deal.
As I posted either get Gaff to commit long term now or trade him. Lets not wait 12 months and run a root.
Typically classy post Monocle
My reservations aren't really about how much talent he has, it's about how much he's WORTH right now. I think he'd do quite well in our midfield given the opportunity, he provides a little bit of something we don't have.
I know you mentioned his sub affected games, which is a fair call. But the sub rule was gone after 2015, and the last 2 seasons, he's still only averaged 15 touches a game. Hardly world beating stuff.
So recruited at pick #45 in 2011, now 6 years on an AFL list he still can't establish himself in a team like port and has clearly been overtaken by a first year player in Powell Pepper.
He's also out of contract and has requested a trade. If we can't broker a trade for an out of contract fringe player in a deal where we seem to hold all the cards like this, then i'd rather we took our 3rd rounder and went to the draft. Again, it's not a question of how good a player he is, but it's painfully obvious his net worth is at an all time low, and we need to take advantage of that, regardless of other suitors.
Would love to say it had something to do with being bent over Ebert, but i couldn't care less. This could be gold coast and i'd be saying the same thing, i'd just like us to come out on top of this trade rather than seemingly overspend with our 3rd when we don't need to.
If we really want to get him in the side then i'd be happy for us to scab another 3rd rounder from somewhere to make this happen, would prefer it actually, but i'd like to see us go into the draft with more than picks #13, #30 and #67That's not enough for mine.
