2017 trade hypothetical thread

No, Twomey clearly tried talking up this years draft as a potential super draft in his early 2016 Road to the Draft Podcasts. But recruiters and guests on the early podcasts put the brakes on this talk.

Much more talk this year on next years draft class, and not just by Twomey. Mostly centred around the King twins, the 3 S.A. underagers, Tarryn Thomas the Tassie kid, Walsh from the Geelong Falcons, and Blakey for the Swans.
Tarryn Thomas is north academy and Blakey is fs north and brissy and academy Sydney aswell but looks likely to choose swans

Tom Lynch seem a bit overrated atm, still give

pick 14+pick 15+Corey Ellis for him
Gold Coast would reject that and would be right in doing so. He is worth 2x top 10 picks

Pick 13+Pick 16 now actually and Ellis is worth another late first rounder, that's equivalent to 2x top 10 pick
Not really, GC would have to open four more list spots in top of their 4 second rounders they already have and none of those assets come close to lynch

That is before you take into account lynch is a 24 year old all Australian key forward with ever increasing upside.

Nice troll though, otherwise
Not. Happening.

Ellis averages 12 possessions across his career and has only been average at VFL level. Just because he was pick 12 doesn't stop him being worth a late 3rd round pick at best

only due to last year being pretty poor
Marshall & Battle were pretty much the only decent tall forward options.
This year has a few decent KP prospects.

I disagree.

My current opinion is that the depth of this draft is shallower from the very top down, so some of the KP talent being rated as first round talent this year isn't even as good as Marshall or English. It's quite possible that if you put this years top KPP players in to last years draft, that only Jarrod Brander would crack last years first round.

Now we do have to take in to account the bias against rucks. They might be a top 10 talent like English was last year, but won't get drafted as high, because clubs simply don't draft rucks high any more. But I'd still put English way ahead of Hayes.

From a Lions perspective, Ballenden has been over rated and is not a first round pick, even in this draft.

Balta might be an athletic freak, but I'm wary of using a first round pick on player who is still a project. No doubt he's an exciting talent though.

And that impacts the discussion how? We're talking purely talent, regardless who has first dibs on them.

I'm well aware who are academy talents, next gen academy kids, or FS prospects. I believe a lot of people will be catching up to future draft strategies now that it looks like live pick and possible player trading on the night will be introduced, integrating who has dibs on players, clubs draft pick position and teams looking to move current and future picks to take advantage where they can.

We saw GWS manoeuvring picks last year to get a pick before having to match academy bids, and in previous years trading for picks to match bids. Well now a whole lot more clubs will be trying to do the same. Especially projecting a year or more in to the future. It's going to be chaos and awesome.

Likely right. i don't know a lot about this years draft. I just remember the commentary in 2016 was it was a poor KP player draft and 2017 was better.
Likely off the back of Brander, Hayes, Stephenson & Ballenden i suppose.

Stephenson isn't a KPP.

Apart from Hayes, the KPP's haven't lived up to the hype from last year.

Just letting other posters know that's all relax.

To think anyone could have had Rockcliff for a thermos and a meat tray at the end of last season and their were no takers. Now he has found that missing half a brain he is a million dollar acquisition.

Brisbane was looking for a 1st rounder for sure. Why would they have given Rockliff up who wouldve yielded them 1st band compensation (top 5) this year for anything less?

Nothing really has changed, great player, but very injury prone

Wouldnt call breaking your face every second week injury prone..

When did he break his face? He had a shoulder injury this year and some kind of other structural injury every other year. I don't care how he gets injured, not getting on the park=not getting on the park. If Im paying an early first rounders for a player I expect the player to play at least 18 games a year, none of those Daniel Wells/Chris Mayne bs.

Carl trade

Gibbs to adel for 1st rd pick.
Get band1 compo for kreuzer

Offer 5th round pick for pruess.
Offer 2nd rd pick for hopper
Get kelly for free via psd.
Get dusty via free agency.

Take picks 3,4 and 18 to the draft. Obviously lose 1 in gaining Kelly

We wouldn't trade Preuss for a first rounder.

He's not so much overrated than he is starved of service at times.
Best player, as Brown calls him, is a bit of a stretch, but Lynch tops the list of targets for me if i was Essendon's list manager.

GCS do not take unders for their players.
in fact, I'm not even sure they've ever accepted even value.
They seem to do well with whoever they trade out
