2017 trade hypothetical thread

Depends on the side. A side that wants success now, might. I might rate him higher that most I guess. Fairly injury free, and an exceptional extractor. Happily do away with a first. Picks are just that, picks. I know what I'm getting from Cunnington for 8 years.

I totally understand the other viewpoint though that you need youth. However a side like GC has a stack of youth already.

I feel he will be a leader in helping the younger blokes like Touk, Brodie and Bowes before they are ready to star. He would help a lot, would not give a top 10 pick though

It would be a complicated deal. North would want a lot and you can understand that. They are in a total rebuild so they need selections at the top end and a lot of them.

I agree with you, would be a perfect guy for GC, would help them on the inside and release some of the pressure off Brodie, Bowes, etc. Allow the kids to develop.

Package Swallow as well.
Probably worth around the 12 - 16 mark I would think.

Yeah about right. I always love my inside mids, always try to not overrate them too much.

So pick 4 for swallow, cunnington and pick 18?

Still feels overs for some reason

Zak Jones - Happily give a first (preferably 2018)

Sam Reid - Late second/early third at best. Ask yourself what you would pay for Cam Pederson.

Poppy - Packet of Salt n Vinegar Chips. Might get a third from a club without any small forwards. But i doubt many clubs will offer more than a 1 year deal. MAYBE 2. And why would he walk away from the Hawks for that?
Reid is a far better player than Pendersen and Reid isn't 30, but Reid is a free agent. The only thing you need to give is a salary.

Mitch Honeychurch to the Lions for a 2018 3rd rounder.

Dogs fans would drive him to the airport probably. Hope you are not planning on playing him forward, his set shot goal kicking is horrific.

Cunnington would be a VERY good get for GC and add some much needed grunt and enforcing in our team

He doesn't need set shots to miss.
He actually goaled from a set shot against Carlton so he has now not missed since he first 6 missed attempts.
The coach was happy with his overall game.

Thought his general play was actually okay, just his goal kicking was flat out terrible, mind you we can't talk we have blokes missing from everywhere!

Paul Puopolo isn't a generational small forward with huge marketing benefits

I think Puopolo would have huge value for the right team (such as GWS who lack pressure forwards with genuine pace, grand final experience) and thus would bring a good return in a trade for the Hawks.

30 next year but: started AFL late in life, has been injury free before this year, hasn't been bashed around like a midfielder, and importantly has not lost his pace or his spring. He took a huge mark against Adelaide in approx round 3.

I would ignore his form this year, given the shamble that the Hawks were on field early in the year and that Poppy carried his injury for a few games also.

Given GWS's problems with forward pressure and the over-dependence of Toby Greene he would be perfect.

He would also bring some Clarkson IP.

The question is whether GWS are willing to pay slightly overs to obtain a player that will clearly compliment their dominant tall forwards.

Nice sales pitch, but considering they got Steve Johnson for nothing, what do you think they'll pay for Puopolo? A 30 yr old small forward coming off an injury isn't worth very much. Especially since they paid overs for 29yo Deledio and have now been burned by it. Poppy would want to have a strong finish to the season if the Hawks wanted a late 2nd round pick at best (though the Giants might give an earlier 2nd round if they don't have a late one).

They could probably just grab Hodge for nothing. Kicked a nice goal on his opposite foot on Saturday.

Posted in the other thread two options I see as fair (based on current draft position)

Poppy for #67

Poppy and #33 for #27

Wow. I can't see that happening. You possible just don't rate Poppy or you don't believe that players over 29 have trade value.

Stevie J and Poppy are not like for like, considering Stevie was retired by Geelong and is not a role player.

67 maybe.

Can't see GWS deeming him worth moving back 6 slots for, when good players run out at about 30 in this draft.
It is worth keeping in mind that they are in a premiership window and are lacking a pressure small forward.

If they think he can play a role in winning them a premiership it may be worth it for them. Also worth stating that they are the ones that are "supposedly" interested in him, if that is the case they have to give up something for him. Clearly at his age though his value is going to be lower than it would have been as a 25-26 year old.
