Wow thats a massive drop in Melbourne this year so far.
Ch7 would have to be worried if that trend keeps up over the next few seasons and isnt stopped or reversed. Its almost 100,000 down since 2014
...and it seems to have halved in Sydney and Brisbane over that 10 year period. Next media deal the AFL will have to seriously consider what offerings on platforms outside of TV because it seems clear that TV is dying.

I know casuals might think different compared to us on a footy fourm but maybe they can mandate quality of coverage. Imagine having Jason Bennett instead of Basil full time for example. Getting new talent instead of the same complete boys club.

Then theres the quality of match ups and the state of the game...

I just don't see it completely as TV itself. Not like people don't have one.

Pretty much this. It's worth noting that based on the statistics posted in the non-afl thread, the NRL seems to be experiencing a very similar trend. The real challenge for this coming TV rights deal will be capturing these viewers lost to other methods, something I'm afraid the AFL is neglecting.

On another note, I think it's a very good thing that the AFL is experiencing this kind of reality check at this point in the contract. It gives them the opportunity to amend the issues without suffering a knee-jerk reaction from the media outlets for the next rights deal.

Yeh decent crowd for North....their big win sets up a good match up vs Geelong at Kardinia park next week.

Although this round isn't quite over yet I'm looking forward to seeing the Queens bday crowd...Melbourne going very well atm and Collingwood coming off a win should push it past 80k

Yeah that game was pelting down right up to the bounce, basically killed off any chance of a 40K+ crowd...

Anyway games against Freo
35K is an ok crowd
40K is very good
45K is excellent
In 16 matches, Richmond averages 28,117 against Fremantle in Melbourne...

I really think sunday night football could work in Adelaide, we use to get them quite a bit in the early 90's, clubs should trial more of them.

With public holiday tomorrow, the perth game this weekend should have been sunday night. Same a few weeks ago when it was a QLD only public holiday-should have had a game sunday night.

This coming weekend is public holiday in SA yeh? Should be a sunday night game.

The afl dont look at public holidays outside victoria.. and miss opportunities...

Yes I remember as early as 1991 there were quite a few Sunday night games in Adelaide and it worked well.

That game against Fitzroy sticks out the most with Peter McKenna yelling out “absolute murder” lol when Adelaide were gifted the game with the two worst free kicks in afl history.
