With the first pick of the 2018 AFL draft The Carlton Football Club should pick

Jack Lukosius - Woodville - West Torrens

Sam Walsh will be Carlton’s obvious pick but if I was Carlton I would look at the best player in the draft I think it’s hard to go past a Lukosius with their first pick. Tall athletic players who have excellent ball skills on both sides of his body don’t grow on trees and this could make the Carlton forward like with Curnow and McGovern quite dangerous in years to come. 2019 draft seems stacked with midfield options so why not pick the best tall in this years draft who has played senior footy at SANFL level and build around him.

that changes the course of the draft.

Pick 2:

Sam Walsh - Geelong Falcons - Vic Country

Suns need a lot of things right now; leadership, talent, but most of all, players who want to stick around. They get all of this with Walsh who is the best performed midfielder of the 2018 draft pool, and if he fell past Carlton’s pick 1, he’d be snapped up at pick 2 without a second thought. Grew up a Brisbane supporter and hailing from Vic Country, he’s spoken in length about his readiness to move interstate, particularly Queensland and seems a sure thing to still be there going forward. Averaging 29.5 disposals and this years Larke Medallist at the Under 19 championships, Walsh would be in the engine room at the Suns from round one of 2019 and could help fast track their rebuild.

In the mix: No one, if Walsh is still on the board at 2, he won’t be there at 3

Pick 3

Max King - Sandringham Dragons - Vic Metro

The Suns needs replacement for Tom Lynch and with Lukosius off the board, Max King is the next best thing. Spoken of as a potential pick 1 for most of the 2017 season and early parts of 2018. he kicked 8.6 in his only TAC cup game before going down with an ACL year playing for Haileybury College in the private schools competition. 200cm + tall forwards with the athleticism of King is rare, having run a sub 3 second 20m sprint earlier in the year. His overhead marking is exceptional and with the new rules coming into effect next year, he has all the makings of a dominant Key forward. Securing King would be a big step in the right direction provided Lukosius is off the board and he’s recovered from his ACL.

In the mix: depends how the club rates their KPP stocks. Izak Rankine could be hard to pass up, and Bailey Smith would definitely be in the mix due to his leadership and immense professionalism, although reports tend to lean toward him wanting to remain in Victoria which is a big no for the SUNS right now.

Sorry been busy...

Pick 4 - St Kilda select Izzak Rankine.

With Max King gone, Rankine still available is the obvious choice. Explosive star factor.

Bailey Smith, Connor Rozee, Jye Caldwell, Ben King and RCD/Stocker considered.
