And when those lesser talented interstate players actually show anything remotely, guess what, their home state clubs or any other interstate clubs can’t wait to pry them away.

5 Qlders in the side this week (6 if you count Cameron who didn’t come through the Queensland system).

It might be improving but Qld does not have the talent pool to sustain one side, let alone two.

I went through this exercise a couple of years ago, there were (from memory) over 40 players from qld on lists across the country.

Many were in the twos or on rookie lists. Also a lot of Rucks and 2nd tier kps. Not a lot of mid.

In summary, no we couldn't currently get a competitive side together. Back around 2000 maybe.

I was being sarcastic, I agree whole heartedly, an absolute discrace.
A lot of these kids are being handed to them on a platter and they have not had to do anything to get them.

But I’m particularly keen to watch and compare Walsh and Bailey Smith from Sandringham for the rest of the year.

Rightly so too. He's a gem. Ticks a massive number of boxes relating to intangibles too. One of those players where Bigfooty and Youtube recruiting probably doesn't paint the full picture.

I feel like a natural leader who loves the lions and is a genuine inside/outside mid would be a huge get for us.

Our academy produces some pretty good talls. Think there's more to be gained from drafting players that can have both long term and short term impacts. We've seen what cluggers and berry have done for the team less than 2 years in.

Hipwood will come good eventually, not sure adding another young key forward who'll take 5 years to develop is the best idea.

I'm on the Walsh train for those reasons. Or at least the midfielder train.

Ballenden & Payne still to debut and more KPP's to come like Tozer in 2019. The academy takes care of the KPP's

Yep, I feel the same BRAB, we are going to need another high impact midfielder or 2 to compliment McCluggage, Rayner and Berry, it would be great if Rhys Mathieson could come on, could still happen he is still only 21 years of age.

Although if Jack Lukosius is as good as the hype, (I saw him described as the best prospect to come through the draft in many a year recently) he could be too good to pass on if we have the chance.

We are going to end up with a very good player with our pick 1-3 whatever happens.

They also replaced Jono Freeman and Matt Hammelman on the list, so our net local % position didn't increase.

The second half was pretty much an carbon copy of the first as the Mariners never took the foot of the pedal to easily run out 110-14 victors in a day to forget for the Lions, who face the Giants next weekend.

We smashed the Giants academy team yesterday.

North are going to cherry pick that Mariners team. There are 5 or 6 that could/should be drafted.
