You can't delist Scheer to pick up Mav

Wouldn't be surprised if they gave Mav the last rookie spot if Graham & Koenen are picked up.

Should just add him to part-time staff and have him play some NEAFL

I rather gave GC academy players 1 year rookie AFL experience than Mav, but think Lachie will go to Dew and Craig .
I thought the talk about Mav coming to GC started early this year... made me wonder if Lachie was asking the question before he even arrived ;)

No more fringe players please we have plenty all ready.
Lets try to find more up and coming players.
We have a whole team of fringe players and it still won't be enough once the injuries hit.

Kyle Cheney would be a nice pickup IMO. Plays above his size, I mean he started out as a rebounding half back for us in the dark days where he was actually alright but he’s definitely an AFL level defender IMO.

Thompson/Collins/Cheney isn’t a bad anchor for your young defence, but more than anything, not having to play a young tall out of pure necessity is good. At the very least Cheney/Hombsch provide some solid competition/protection for any young tall backs you’ll probably have to draft this year.

GC already decided to keep Leslie and he is 24 next year .

KPD
Burgess ( 1.94 m 23 next year )
Leslie ( 1.98 m 24 next year )
Collins (1.94 m 25 next year )
BALLARD ( 1.95 m 20 next year )
Hombsch (1.92 m 26 next year )
Thompson (2 meter 28 next year )
Not sure that are many kids around that need protection .

Not to pick you out individually, but this "fringe player" tag is getting over-used. Jarryd Lyons was a "fringe player" in the Adelaide midfield, but it's a bloody tough midfield to crack, while Jarrod Witts was number 3 in the ruck at Collingwood. Anthony Miles couldn't get a game in Richmond's midfield because their game plan went right away from his skillset and they recruited Dion Prestia to do the job they needed. Corey Ellis never really got a run at a midfield role and left then Tigers because he was behind Cotchin and Dusty.

And saying our list is full of fringe players is just reductive. We have 13 first round draft picks with another 3 coming after trading away/ delisting 4 of them. Jack Bowes is 20 and playing good footy, but nobody is going to call him "fringe" when he wins his first Brownlow and becomes Captain of the club in 5 years. Will Brodie is a "fringe" midfielder now, but with another 40 games under his belt people will be declaring him elite. Ben Ainsworth might be hot and cold around goal, but it is only a matter of time before he begins to smash games open. Peter Wright is a 3 goal a game prospect, Jack Leslie is a developing backman and Rory Thompson is already top 10 KPD.

The AFL Commission highlighted the Suns injury list and player development record as 2 things that have to change, so Evans is pouring cash into each on the AFL's docket. However, if taken in isolation, the majority of injuries were sustained in hard contact rather than soft tissue. MacPherson's broken leg, Hanley's shoulder, Day's shoulder, Nicholls' ACL, Wigg's ankle, Kolojashnij's neck, etc we the result of unavoidable heavy contact, while many of the others were player management. Jack Martin was wrapped up and put in the garage because he's a Ferrari that you don't risk for meaningless games. Charlie Ballard was just suffering from an intense workload in his first season.

The rebuild that ignorant Melbourne Media are saying had to happen has actually been happening since the end of 2014. There are only 10 blokes left from that list! We picked up Wright and Miller in that Draft, but more importantly brought in 11 new players, even though 9 are gone Raines and Malceski remained with the club and Saad got traded for pick #29 in this year's Draft. We have also acquired Weller and Ellis from that Draft year, who were both on our wishlist and we got them anyway. In 2015, the club turned over 13 players, with 5 remaining on the list today. In 2016, we brought in 9 new recruits and 8 remain, while last year we brought in 11 guys and all but 1 remain. 7 players have already been recruited this year and 8 more will join the club after 13 players have left. There will be another purge this time next year, but nothing so dramatic, and we'll keep having the bottom of the list churned, more Academy players and journey men who want to come to the Gold Coast to plat. Our young guys will get bigger and better and we'll start win more than we lose and nobody will be doomsaying about our fringe players.

He could be part of our modelling department

What has been done money wise to reduce injuries? I agree that this has been a major impediment and the root of a lot of our problems with continuity and improvement.
You said cash had been spent?
Facilities obviously upgraded but what else?
Current high performance manager came from within house (apparently doing a good job) and went on this European trip aswell so hopefully leant a few valuable lessons.
medical team hasn’t changed as far as i know?
Proof will be in the pudding when the season starts but not sure how we’ve invested money?

Just saw the Max King draft profile on AFL.com - that kid is as skinny as Wil Powell.

With blokes like Jaska being told we don't have time to develop them I can't see how we would have the time to make a heavy investment in a kid who looks like his body will stop him from being able to make an impact at senior level for several years

Yeah can’t see the kings in our plans.
Think max will be a great player eventually but don’t think we can afford to kick the cam down the road any longer.

Your absolutely right about the overuse of the "fringe player" tag being overused. I was being deliberately reductive labelling all the young players on our list like that and I really don't mind being called out on my bullshit haha.

In a round about way my one line of reductive nonsense just turned into four paragraphs of legitimate analysis... So I guess I can say I'm making a contribution to this discussion

Max King is so skinny and see his bone frame .

Finally GC become destination club because of list lodgement .

Would hope we have already addressed our list deficiencies in mature body, role player, second chance desperation, midfield depth, character etc etc.

At this point, would much rather we added academy players (especially the talls) to the list then another delisted player.

We added the 3 state league guys, Hombsch, hung onto Rischa, and added GHS, Miles and Ellis to the midfield group.

Plus another year of maturity and experience to our young players. This one is important. Our list profile is actually not that bad. A long way from the 'worst list since Fitzroy'.

We have 11 drafted players in the age bracket from 20 to 22.

Brodie, Ainsworth, Bowes, Ah Chee, DarcyMac, Fiorini, Joyce, TheSchoen, 2MP, Touk and Weller.

Brodie just turned 20, the last few don't turn 23 early next year. If we include Ellis, Burgess, and Corbett, that is 14 players in that age bracket.

They are young, but just coming into the age range where some big improvements are possible. And we are about to head into the first off-season where we have all the facilities available for the whole period.

So, I would be happy if we added young players from here. Can always add more mature players next year if we find we are short in that area again.

Next year we should have the money for a couple of good B grade players or 1 A+ star player. Next year is all about selling hope to anyone who may be coming in and about keeping those up and coming players interested in sticking around.

The club would do well with someone like Blair. A premiership player, he is a small forward who can kick goals. Can tackle and apply pressure. He is such a club man, who does anything required, one of the hardest working players I have seen, even when players keep getting chosen over you. He kept training with the main group right up to grand final even when he wasn't getting a senior game. Such loyalty this broke. Anyone would do well to have someone of his experience.

What if opposition team players are atheist? No fear of God

Absolutely agree. A bit of tired every time somebody is delisted he is a perfect fit for Suns. There is a reason why these players were delisted.

All of the above and more yet to be announced. Even the addition of the State Level players is a measure to protect young bodies from going up against grown men before they are ready. Player retention, list culture, club development programs, today's announcement of the U16 Academy being expanded - there's money being invested all the time and after making a profit this past year there's scope to continue to invest.

It is too early to say what, how and who, but the recommendations are there and the process is underway right now. New medical staff and coaches have been appointed and even this Euro trip everybody is critical of is evidence that things are moving. What is happening at the big end of town, at clubs like WC and Collingwood, is that they have been spending money on their footy departments wily nilly. But this year there was a tax introduced so that for every dollar spent over the soft cap the club must pay 100% tax. The Suns problem is not spending anything close to the maximum allowed, so that has to be the starting point.
