Bit harsh. Sydney were playing with a proper break between games and had a fair few bounces and calls go their way. With more accurate kicking in the first half and less panic coming out of defence in the 2nd half and the game would have been closer. Sydney chose a team to win and their assistant coaches devised some brilliant tactics. Dean Towers was brilliant.

Harsh is my middle name 17er

Bowes clear stand out for mine in both games , looks so classy , was a good work out for the boys , no injuries the big bonus .

Yep, Bowes outstanding, Joyce played well too, and wasn't it great to see Day getting into it?! Fiorini, KK and Miller were hot and cold, while I'd liked to have seen Young and Holman in the same team. Sexton best in losing side.

1st match stats

Everyone except Day on the scoreboard, but he could have had a bag = unselfish

2nd match stats

Too many behinds in the first half meant playing from behind and trying to play for supergoals. Only six players managed to score at all, with just 4 goal kickers compared to 8 in the first game.

Note: no actual possession stats, just goals and behinds

Bowes was easily our best over both games and particularly in game 2 (interesting that he wasn't even named in the best in that game) .
Taking Young and Scheer out gave us no chance against Sydney - both transitioned well and took marks at both ends of the ground against the Dogs.
Thought Touk was quiet , Fiorini got the ball but his disposal wasn't at his best, Sam Day - great to see him back - but not sure this is his format.
Great start for Dew the coach - very promising from club view point - the players all looked keen to impress and played with a top attitude.

Thought of all the players that played Young was the best and showed the most composure. Hopefully we've hit on Jarryd Lyons mark II.

Bowes looks to have taken another step which can hopefully cement him in the best 22.

KK looked good early but coughed it up the longer the games went. Lemmens is still Lemmens.

Loved Joyce's work - great composure and ability to hit targets on either foot was a feature.

Fiorini was solid.

Besides no injuries my favourite take from today was Sam Day - looks like he will be able to come back to what he was which is awesome

Daysies return and the impact it could have on our team dynamics cannot be underestimated. Will take much needed pressure off Lynchie and 2MP.
Thought Young, KK, Sexton were solid but rusty with a few ordinary turnovers. Joycey super solid with no turnovers. I wish we had more players with his grit and composure and feet. Lemmens with the usual turnovers. Thought Darcy Mac showed a bit more zip TBH. Touk seemed to be doing a lot of hard running defensive work.

Good to see both Bowes and Fiorini have put on a bit of size, can find the pill alright and have good vision/skill to spot a teammate in space. Particularly liked Bowes’ spring and hands in the air. A couple of impressive grabs.
Liked Scheer’s ability to find space and get the ball on a lead in the forward line - will probably find that a bit harder in the real thing though.
Willis, Schoey, Holman nothing much to see there.

Great to see KK back in general. Missed his marking and rebounding.

Daysy also looooooved seeing him back. He's rusty and was blowing a bit, but just stoked that he's back. :)

Bowes the story for mine as others have alluded to. Maybe it's because he was playing in the forward half or just another pre-season, but he looked at the level that I saw him in in his 18s year. Flair, craft and x-factor. If we can get that in the season proper (when there's infinitely more pressure and players) then it will really help us.

I thought Holman was good, as was Young.

Willis and Schoenfeld looked no-where near it.

Agree with everything except Holman. Thought he played very well and was hard done by with a couple of decisions that could have gone his way. Cracking goal, but commentators didn't call it. He ran end to end and went hard at it. Would have torn the Dogs to pieces. Could be the missing link in the forward line with Ah Chee out.

Yeah I was probably doing a Mr Bods and being a bit harsh on Holman on second thought. Reckon he’ll be a bigger asset to us in the 18man game with more contested ball. Nice to have another bigger body even if it’s just backup for Lyons, Swallow, Barlow.

Worse case he can play the Mitch Hallahan role in the NEAFL

Like Lemmens I'm not sure how long you wait until the ability to play footy is actually a criteria by which you can judge these guys
Lemmens provides far more than Schoenfeld. And that's from someone who is dubious about Lemmens!

Schoenfeld is very vanilla , there is not much there , the club obvious sees more than us to extend his contract . The guy for an elite runner always looks spent , I remember seeing him at a game at Metricon and he was hunched over on multiple occasions and in the last quarter couldn’t get to a contest cause he was spent , not sure if he is fit and just has bad running patterns , but is a long way from it atm.

Surely, we should not judge players based on AFLX! For me most exciting was to see Day back and looking healthy. Bowes classy plays would have to be another highlight.

Certain things transcend the format of the game
Decision making, ball handling, awareness
I'm sure the match committee isn't judging Schoenfeld on AFLX but in his position you'd want to make every post a winner and last night he was about 5th in the 2nd race at a midweek Wagga meeting
And the contract extension is about maintaining experience and potential at the $80,000 end of the spectrum
People seem to equate every contract with a Lynch/Ablett type experience
Always remember there's 2 sides to the contract
It has to be offered and it has to be accepted
