Such an scrappy game of football to watch. 60 FREE KICKS!!! 60!

Anyone see Joyce do that 35m pinpoint pass on his no preferred on the eastern wing. Was a thing of beauty!

I love watching Jarryd Lyons seemingly jog around and just always end up with the ball. Such a good pick up for us.

no I don't think he'd be doing that. why is the onus on the coach here and not the players?

Because it's the same players as last year (actually you could say lesser players after trading) and it's more the effort and the implementation of a system that seem to be driving the improved performance rather rapid improvement in individual(s) ability to play football.

Fiorini 17 touches 11 tackles!!

Atleast 4 tackles more then any other Sun
My only gripe about Fiorini is he gets himself into good position to kick goals often and usually doesn't take the shot and goes to a lower percentage option, he seems to always second guess himself around goals when he should simply take more shots I think

Thought Rory looked much better today too. Like the Rory of old. He just needs miles in the legs.

I wasn't as impressed with Holman. He got the ball okay but he butchers it so badly by foot. Given he plays in a position where he must deliver inside 50 well that could be a problem.
I am loving Rory he is back to his subtle best I think

Pretty exciting that we have a gritty style, our guys want to be first to a contest and they seem to be able to comfortably impose this style of game instinctively now, teams aren't opening us up after 1/4 and a half like they used to and find loose men everywhere

Bowes, Fiorini, Ainsworth, Holman, McPherson and Brodie all working hard and having a massive crack.

We look and play like a team now whatever happens win/loss this year I think we will be competitive in all games

We stole that game yesterday BUT winning ugly is very much a part of climbing the ladder and up until now we have almost always lost the tight ones

Hall seemed to be super busy and having a go too, I didn't notice Weller but loved reading that he was doing plenty of classy stuff bodes well for the season in dry games

Anyone else love that pass from Youngy onto Lynchs chest just outside the goal square, was sublime

A steal! That’s a huge call. I saw the first half before watching the Titans game (friggin epic game by the way I’m on such a high) and what I saw was fairly good I guess.
I love to eat my words, I’m rooting for him to make me look a stooge.
You are being stooged, but prematurely for the moment.

BTW - how good was NRL Rd 1 and how shit is their new website?
Highlight for me was Lolohea's falcon pass to set up Thompson's match tying and clutch conversion - go Tigers! Titans comeback was pretty special too. So good to see the Broncos last!

Back to Weller, he is already in the top 4 of Suns midfielders, sitting just behind Lyons, Swallow and Hall, right above Miller, Fiorini, Bowes and Brodie. Top 5 if you count Martin, but he's not really been able to show if the midfield move has worked out. Weller's disposal efficiency and clean hands in the wet were the best of the mids, although you can't blame Swallow or Lyons for being mugged every time they came near the ball. ALL Suns mids showed willingness to win contested possessions, lay tackles, get in and under at stoppages and win 50/50 ball.

I thought the Suns were stiffed on free kicks, although Weller actually earned 3 while only giving away 1, by far the best ratio. On a day when a lot of passes went astray, Weller's handpassing was effective and he continually brought the ball out of defence. If he wasn't in the Suns best, he was the best of the rest in a winning team. Weller, Bowes, Hall and Miller rotated effectively through halfback, however, we are still turning it over on the wings and in the middle of the ground. I'm hoping with less congestion on a drier field that Weller can provide the missing link in our Coast to Coast offence, which would be ironic should the Suns start converting kickins into running goals during the Doomsday Double in Perth.

Barlow - 2nd in the 2k time trial?
Running in a straight line on a track in a time trial is totally different to an actual game. If you watched the JLT game yesterday, you could see that conditions were terrible and the potential for injury high. Suns have injury clouds over Jack Martin and Pearce Hanley now, so risking Barlow wouldn't have been too smart. As it is, Barlow likely replaces Hanley with a slight reshuffle of the backline.

your tone is horrendous mate. when you disagree with someone you come across as though you're speaking down to them. this feedback isn't new, so my hope is that repetition helps you take it on board. love your post frequency but gee it'd be a nicer place here if you could work through this.

You are high if you think the tone of my reply was "horrendous". We all know you are triggered by everything I ever write and after a few days back on the forum you are already becoming tiresome. I don't need psychological advice that you got from the back of a Corn Flakes you and I don't need your approval. It is pitifully obvious to everybody that you are trying to bait me, yet again, so how about you take some of your own advice and stop being a condescending snowflake.

Tom Lynch can accept $2000 sanction rough conduct on Mitch Robinson

He's lucky. But any more contact and he's gone. Not to mention future points of contact may rub him out.

He needs to dial it down a bit. I can accept that he gets frustrated and such, but if May can learn to walk the line than so can he.

Can't really say what was going through Lynchy's mind, but at the time I thought he was pulling out of the bump when the ball came loose, then Robinson was pushed forward and Lynch seems to sort of freeze as he can't avoid the bump and half his attention is on kicking the ball. Actually surprised Joyce didn't get a fine for his involvement, although it wasn't malicious either.
Not surprised at Josh Green's fine. Goose!

I played for Broadbeach in that NEAFL practice match yesterday. Barlow was a class above, so clean even in the wet. Crossley was unstoppable in the air but his kicking was a little inconsistent. Tough day at the office for us but the Suns youngsters looked very good.
