Anyone have much insight as to why Brodie is still playing reserves? I loved his bull work as a junior and he played a great senior game last year. Seems to get near the "bests" in the ressies a bit but can't get pushed up thus far. Is he close or still a lot of work to be done on the tank? Cheers
All in DEW time. My friend.

I have high hopes for Heron. Some of the stuff he did last year in our NEAFL side was amazing. He offers real electric pace as well and loves running defensively. He could really fill a spot in our senior side IMO.

That said you'd think he would be a couple of years away.

Also how good is it not seeing and ruining our draftees for a change by playing them so early in the 1s? So nice. Darcy the perfect example of a guy just allowed to develop and now he's flourishing.

The way I see it is that there are 3 guys who are 30+ who aren't going to be around next year - Rischa, Barlow, Rosa - and a couple more who could be on the list for 2 or 5 years in Hanley and Harbrow. Once those guys retire or move on, we are going to want to have blooded replacements. That isn't easy when you're winning and you have aspirations of finals, but form and injury are going to force Dew's hand at various points of the season and it is going to be a case of next man up instead of putting a rookie in before they're ready. Well deserved for Heron to go on this trip and great to see another small forward being developed because we need more.

True that, but I also think you have to take into account where else he can play in the side and make that his position. Is he going to be an accumulator, run-with tagger, outside runner, forward flanker or key position player? Why not try him out in a few positions and promote him when he can add versatility then bring him into the squad?
My feel (not based on any real evidence) is that Brodie has elected to try to make it as a mid and is not really interested in other pathways into the team. Ill try to find the interviews im talking about, but in them he always talks about breaking in to the midfield. Contrast to Bowes, midfielder playing back and Scheer midfielder playing forward.

Good point, but don't forget that Bowes and Scheer have been in the Suns system for much longer than Brodie, playing NEAFL with a lot of the same guys in 2016 before the Draft. Scheer's Draft pick number is not indicative of his talent, it is just that the Suns had 5 picks and the first 4 were in the top 10, so pick #74 or whatever it was could have been early 2nd round but no other club put in a challenging bid. I get the feeling that other clubs were interested but he wasn't returning the interest as the Suns had likely told him they match any bid. Bowes probably would have gone earlier too, but the Suns didn't have to pick him until their Jaeger pick #10 and even then Sydney forced their hand by making a bid.

There are potentially more forward gems from U19 academy playing today at 1:30, time to watch stream.

This is NEAFL. Scott, Graham not playing but Baru, Boakye, Bowie are. Also looking forward to see how Powell, Ballard, Jaska, Wigg, Scrimshaw and Brodie go.
I've seen the team sheet. Hence my question - where's Bailey Scott?

Great crowd at Aspley. There must be 30 or 40 people there, although I just saw another car show up on the half back line. Strewth, I've seen bigger crowds at the Cooly Blues Under 12s!

Ballard's a leftie as well. I think the Suns have the most lefties in the AFL!

We all know he was a brilliant player but the last contract signing was what left a sour taste in my mouth.
Geelong had no cap space and we reward him with $1mil a year over 3, and reportedly front load it.
Then the BS my family need me trick. That family have been a train wreck since cocky was an egg. Spare me.
There’s no point being married to Ablett unless you’re recognised. Therein lays the problem...

He was also receiving ambassador money on top of that

Jarryd Lyons is staring right now for us and is currently in AA form
He is ranked 1st in kicks, 2nd in clearances, 1st in stoppage clearances, 3rd in contested possessions, 5th for inside 50s, 5th for metres gained, 11th for total SC score (includes a 66 in R1), 14th in tackles, 6th in total AFL Fantasy score and 14th in disposals.

If we can pick up one high quality midfielder to help out Lyons and Swallow in the middle come the end of the season that would be amazing. We are just missing that superstar in the guts like Fyfe. We had it with Ablett but for obvious reasons he wasn't the answer.

We may need to spend one of our first rounders for it, but it would be invaluable if we were able to lure one to the Suns.

would you take a sidebottom

I think the biggest question that should be asked over the first nine rounds is: How many games does the club need to win to keep their dream of finals alive? You need 11/12 wins to have a shot at finals so I'm inclined to believe the answer to that question is 4/5 wins is required before the bye. That means 1-2 wins over the next 4 games against Crows (away), Bulldogs (Ballarat), Demons (Gabba) and Port (Shanghai).

It may sound biased but I think most level headed people would agree the games against the Adelaide-based clubs are unlikely to end in wins for the Suns. So I think the focus needs to be on the games against the Demons and the Bulldogs and I feel they need to win at least 1 of those games to stay in the hunt. What do you guys think?
