Yet....It's OK... I just have a different opinion. I think long term Stephenson will be the best of the lot. He is just an absolute jet. ..looks like a natural footballer

Just watch him play. Seriously! Even before the draft many experts were saying he is the most talented in the draft pool... Just concerns over his heart issues. He does look like the most talented in the draft pool. Like Curnow there were concerns around his consistency. . Look how that turned out!

Ok, Arr0w what is the Pick coming back that is close enough? Say 5? That means (trying to keep it simpler) to get Shiel:

- We get pick 9 and another pick, say swap our 4th rounder for a higher GWS Pick
- We get another player, say Setterfield, and probably get no pick back, or
- We trade pick 1 to a third club for a few picks, say Adelaide or Gold Coast, and then trade one of those picks for Shiel.

I haven't watched all the under 18 games yet. I have annual leave in a few weeks so I'll watch it all and make a decision. I'm leaning towards Lukosius at this stage however

Agree. I think we have holes all over the park still so best available.

Fair point. Perhaps however in a finals game an X Factor talent like Stephenson can turn the game in ten minutes.

Posted a 3 way trade example a few days ago.

If we naturally finish with pick 1 or 2, i prefer to go to the draft with one of those picks, unless there is more than just Shiel involved in the deal, as you mention, perhaps a Setterfield.

Its quite unbelievably mad to judge player against player early in their careers .
Players dont develop at the same rate because of a number of reasons .
So therefore shouldnt be judged against another until well into their careers imo .

Why would GWS trade Shiel? If they are serious about winning a flag they must do everything they can to keep Shiel and Kelly. Surely they would back them selves to re-sign Shiel next year. If i'm GWS there is no way i'm trading Shiel for pick 1. They have a proven star in his prime. Pick 1 who ever it will be will take 3-4 years to develop to get anywhere near Shiel's level and if they have a premiership window open it's right now.

I can't see any club chasing Shiel this year because it will be a waste of time. Unless Shiel comes out and says he want a trade back to Victoria but i don't think he's that kind of person.

The why is simply perfect timing. GWS has both salary cap pressure with Greene reportedly taking a pay cut and a clutch of players becoming free agents starting at the end of 2019. If GWS lose 1 would-be free agent this year and another next year, it is in a better position than if it loses the 2 next year.

Fair point. This all started with me saying I might have a bit of draft pick envy.. .And I kind of do. I like at how Stephenson is an excitement machine right now and would love him on a wing and half forward. Dow will be alright.

Draft envy is fine. But its all too soon. I have very high hopes for Dow. He's exceeding my expectations this year in a injury depleated midfield. Kid goes better than alright imo

Why do we need more clearance players?

Cripps/Kennedy with Dow, Fisher, Petrevski-Seton, Lang, Ed, Murphy rorating through is fine.

We don't tend to lose the clearance count badly, or struggle for centre clearances.

We struggle to move the ball smoothly and hit targets inside 50's

Thought Murph wasted the ball in the first quarter.

Definitely got better as the game wore on.

But we are so much better when he is in and firing. interesting what one of the commentators said about Murphy late in the 3rd qrt about 10mins remaining in the 3rd go back and listen

Why wouldn’t you take Shiel for a swap of our first pick with GWS’ first pick instead?

I am still yet to understand why GWS do this deal. Give up one of their supposed midfield guns and a first round pick for one first round pick in return. It makes no sense why they would agree to this.
