We have 7 players out of contract at the end of the season:
Graham - Delisted
Kerridge - Delisted
Lamb - Rookie list
Rowe - 75/25 in staying's favour
Wright - 75/25 in staying's favour
Simpson - His choice
Thomas - His choice (Rumours he will leave)

That's 3-6 delistings from the senior list, which means 2-5 delistings from the rookie list:
ASOS - 25/75 in leaving
JGM - Delisted
Lebois - 25/75 in leaving
Shaw - Delisted
McDaid - Delisted

Note: This leaves us with 3-6 spots on the main list and up to 6 spots on the rookie list.

Draft-wise:
3 Spots: Keep one, upgrade 24, 26, upgrade 66, 74 (2 first-round, one third/fourth round)
4: Keep one, upgrade 66, 74 (1 1st, 2 2nd, 1 3rd/4th)
5: Trade one for a top five and a top 20 (e.g. 3, 18, Gold Coast), upgrade 66, 74 (2 1st, 2 2nd, 1 3rd/4th)
6: Trade one for Adelaide's first rounders + upgrade another pick (e.g. 66 to 37), use a future pick to upgrade 74. (2 1st, 2 2nd, 1 3rd, +1 2nd-4th)

Targets:
3: 2 mids, 1 small forward
4: Lukosius, 2 mids, 1 small forward
5/6: Minimum of 2 mids, 2 forwards.
I'm worried about kruezer ..I think he should retire. ..his health is more important than a game of football ..he could have a heart attack on the field with his elevated heart problems ..it keeps getting worse

Geez i hope cunners can get some form going 2019. Josh dunkly at the same pick would of made a difference. Higgans over obrien would of made this team look massivly differnt as well
I think you'd find that if you swap said players/teams you might be surprised to see little difference. It's got to be hard to make an impact in our team atm.

Long term much prefer LOB over Higgins. LOB’s running skills are perfect for the modern game. Big difference being a young player battling in the bottom team versus playing for the premiership favourites.

As for Cunners, has the tools but needs a good run injury-wise to really see if he’ll be a permanent player.

Just thinking out loud (so to speak) regarding list spot management - I think policy should be that two list spots are "reserved" for the best state-league players available each year and one spot for the best club-affiliated team's player. It means clubs can continually offer opportunity to those who may have been overlooked in drafts but developed really well in the proceeding couple of years, gives incentives to better align the AFL club with their affiliates state-league clubs and perhaps strengthens the state clubs overall by not losing potential AFL players to lucrative suburban footy leagues. It is a small but significant pathway for grass-roots football to offer the players. I'm not sure if it should be an AFL policy, but I'd be pretty happy to see our club have something like that as its own policy. Would certainly attract more players to the NBs and the stronger they are, the better.

Anyone think this is a good idea? Rubbish idea?

I really like the premise of the idea, committing to 3 list spots every year is a lot though. I wonder how much of a lure it would be to the NB if all VFL players knew one of them would get a gig at seasons end.

I know it doesn't mean much to some but Higgins was rated as the highest player in his draft year according to champion data, the kid is a very good player.
Yeah I'm not saying his shit I'm just saying he is obviously able to do more in his fwd pine than our boys due to no real elite fwd line

I think the argument is more Richards or LOB. I think Lob long term will come good :)

I like what i see with LOB, thats not what i was responding to though. Some in their defence of our own like to diminish others. Higgins is a good player was my point, regardless of his team mates.

There is a real case for us going mostly mature this year. We have a great group of talented youngsters but they need proper support.

If we have Picks 1, 19 (PP), 23 & 27 I can see us trading 2 or maybe 3 for very good players
I can even see the value in Pick One going for a McGovern or B.Crouch and Pick 8. Pick 8 could easily be Smith or Caldwell which suits our needs. SOS will try and bring some later picks in around these deals and try and land another Williamson (quality late pick)

Pick 19 on a Lloyd and 23 on a Brodie. Future Picks still need to come into play for a couple more. Nelson and/or Collins as Rookies helps as well.

Shiel and/or Gaff would be awesome and I feel SOS has someone else in mind

Higgins fell in the draft due to his attitude, his ability wasn't the question.

This is not correct, his attitude was lauded as better than anyone’s, lived and breathed footy and has engaged in private coaches for years. One of his big knocks which to me looks stupid is that he dropped out of school at 16 to solely focus on football, some thought he had little room to improve.

What do you reckon peeps - any chance Carlton can package Weitering in with Kennedy as steak knives and get a second rounder from Hawthorn?

Only because the Hawks still owe us a favour.....:p
