General intent. I come back to my concerns from after the Sydney final in 2016. We don't have the right midfield coaching group. Our culture doesn't hold up to finals football. I noticed it watching Sydney yesterday. I think it was Cunningham. It was a one on one, nothing ball that bounced badly for him and it went to a 60-40 against him. The game was never going to be won or lost on that contest. It was just an ordinary, unimportant moment in the game. But Cunningham bee-lined the contest and put his body on the line. He lost the contest, but he wont die wondering. Gave himself every chance. We have probably only got a handful of players that will do that. Its either natural for them, or they wont do it. These teams like Sydney have it ingrained in them. Everyone buys into it. Camporeale and Clarke, and probably now Ben Hart, not good enough.

Great post. We aren’t strong in this area, and the direction the game is heading is for this to be more and more in vogue. We’re also bad at handling it when applied to us.

It’s how Richmond won last year (all season not just the GF) and a big reason why we look so good one week but are often unable to mix it when the heat really comes on.

Finally, as the dominant side from last year and grand finalist, we’re now one of the hunted and so will be exposed to this more and more. Throw in the fact that we’ve got injuries and are looking a little mentally fatigued, and it’s like a premiership hangover without the premiership.

Like the past two years Port still struggle against every team that spreads well from a stoppage. Coincidently that is most top eight sides (Not Sydney).

The players on the field may have changed but the coaching direction is the same.

The mid 2000s flood does not hold up anymore.

Haha it’s all very convenient isn’t it.

Teams themselves may have certain ways they want to play, which can have some relation to the past. That’s fine. Port supporters seem to think they have some sort of mortgage on history just because of the team they barrack for. That’s silly.

Always funny, how often we have to hear that. What you are is what you are or put out there but they don't quite seem to get that.

We had an off game yes very similar to north the game but look we still finished top. Were one game off top position thats how close the competition iswe have injurys that we will get back in the coming weeks. We will be fine top 4 is where we will finish.
