Omeara can rack up the possessions
So can Chris Masten and no ones picking him

I'm not keen on O'Meara either and won't be starting him regardless of his preseason performance (two big scores in Rd1 and 2, then a trade in becomes a possibility) but can definitely understand the logic behind selecting him. If (and based on recent history, is a big if) he stays fit, he should at worst make 150-200k and can provide a structural advantage by starting a keeper in another position while getting a reasonable output from O'Meara. IMO selecting O'Meara won't make or break teams, unless he can pull off an Oliver/Kelly season of last year.

But by that logic you would make the same coin with a Rayner type. This graph is related to Omeara for last season. Screenshot_20180203-222831.jpg He would need to average 97 to make 150K by his bye. Let that sink in. He needs a 97 average and play all 11 games leading up to his bye to make $150K. He's played 6 out of his last 66. On the flip side this graph shows a player that is cheaper.

Let's use W Brodie (GCS, Mid) as an examle on this one. He's listed at just over $180k and reportedly TTHD and wants Abletts spot. If he averages 70 a game he's make you $217k by his R10 bye.

I just see more upside in a younger player without an injured history like JOM

I don't think that way. I don't care about having players in my SC team I don't like. I can't stand Tom Mitchell but he was one of my first choices this year. It is how some people think though. My Dad has never picked Dustin Martin for SC just because he doesn't like him.
I used to not pic Collingwood players but I realized quickly that Swan and Pendlebury were necessities. :)

I think that's a good way to look at, however, if O'Meara averages 90 to his bye, those with the selection, would have made a good amount of profit with a reasonable on field output. Additionally in the mid 400ks, he's an easy upgrade to a discounted mid premo around the bye rounds. Although 150k + is a good number to aim for in a cash cow, especially in recent times, many fail to achieve that.
Additionally, with the BE system scores of 120, 120, 60, 60 will still net a 90 average, but the 2 big scores in the rolling average should see a greater price rise than just 90s, so I think there's a lot of merit in leaving O'meara as a wait and see option rather than an initial selection if you're not keen on him and seeing what he throws up in rounds 1 and 2.

In comparing O'Meara to a rookie, assuming his selection allows the extra premo and he is taking a spot of a rookie, ideally, he would be taking the spot of the worst rookie. Assuming brodie, goes on to average 70 (which would make him one of the better 2018 cash cows), the majority of players who opted not to start him, would look to trade him in if he looks good (or a must have) in the opening few rounds. So while I agree that selecting a cheaper rookie can have much better results than an injury prone midpricer, there's nothing stopping those going with both an O'meara and Brodie type (and certainly through correction trades this is possible) and being left with 1 less dud rookie score wasting away on the bench while O'meara is providing them solid cash potential and point output.

I think with O'Meara it will always go back to, will he stay fit, because if the can, there's no reason to suggest he can't be a good pick.

a few points from the Collingwood intra club match

- Maynard played a variety of roles and faded in 2nd half
- Grundy and Cox shared ruck duties
- Sam Murray will play lockdown defender if he plays
- Treloar, Moore, Wells, Elliott and Howe all sat out
- Pendlebury played midfield and was back to his best and showed no discomfort in his finger. :lock::lock:

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Any news on Taylor Adams?

My current team. Thoughts?

Very similiar to mine. But I prefer Titch to Dusty, and not just because it won't kill me in the round 14 bye. Mitchell's ceiling and floor is like this close together:

I agree ..... you can have reverse bias too, not wishing to pick too many from your own team

I’m worried I only have 1 Crows player ATM ?

i have one from Port, but 4 from you guys (Laird, M Crouch, Jacobs and Doedee)

I think it shouldn't matter who they play for because without a doubt if they played for a different team, you'd pick them.

My # of Crows selections now are diff to when I first started , where I’d have 5-6

I have Laird & Doedee ....but with Jacobs, Crouch, and Gibbs, whilst they’ve been in my side at stages .... I think the reverse bias thinking causes me to find better options ??

Interesting...

The most interesting one there is Sloane. He scored above 119 eleven times, and all his sub-100 scores are 92 and below. That's 50/50 he'll score 120 or below 90, basically. So up-and-down.

Also, Neale still averaged 111 between rounds 14-20, including a season-best 156. Fyfe averaged 119 in that timespan, but Neale's scoring didn't dip that dramatically, it's mostly offset by a terrible 44 in round 21 (I don't know if he got injured or tagged but he missed the following week).

It's all about role and how you think they will score.

I like Jacobs as I think he will have one more good year in him, before he retires. This year would be it with the midfield you guys have.
M Crouch - 121.5 in his last 15 games I think, can't pass on that.
Gibbs however, what role will he play with Smith out? will he go HB or play in midfield?

Haven't posted my team for a bit so this is what i'm working with atm, 12.5k left over.

Laird :lock:
Hibberd is actually doing a preseason this year, just hope his hammy doesn't go twang, and if it doesn't he's a safe bet for a top 6 def.
On the LMac train now, finished off last year well, sounds like he'll be more on the wing and in the guts than down back.

Danger Skipper Lock
Dusty best player in the comp, good starting draw, lock.
Mitchell will get 3000 touches again, lock.
Fyfe is back.
If Cripss doesn't break himself again he'll at least go at 105.

Like Kruze as a pod, reckon he'll be top 3 again, no competition for his spot, and all the other rucks are garbage anyways.
Anyone that didn't autofill has Gawn.

Heeney is a starboi, knee clean up doesn't worry me, I hope he keeps his DPP forever.
Reckon Billings could be the #2 scoring fwd this year (behind Jack Higgins), especially if he stops shitting his dacks in front of goals.
I froth Starlow, he'll win GCs BnF by a million votes like Gary used to.
Jumped on the DSmith hype after hearing about his performance in an intraclub game lol.

Gibbs will play mid/fwd ....at most dangerous as a goal kicking mid

Milera off HB for Smith ... along with Douglas

I reckon Gibbs can add 10 ppg to his 102 ave from 2017 ..... I just think Beams at M5 is more a surity from a SC historical perspective
