Interview with Lethlean a bit of a non-event. He deflected the obvious questions that came his way. Not sure about this Sam McClure fella. Lacks the gravitas to be asking the 'hard questions'. Hope SEN doesn't turn itself into a mob of 'Hutchy' clones.

Didn't know where to put this, but this year Dare Iced Coffee will become the club's 2nd longest tenured principal partner in club history.

This will be their fourth year as PP, which puts them equal to Valentine Greetings who partnered with us from 1982-1985, and just behind Tooheys who we partnered with from 1993-1998.

We also haven't had a principal partner stay on with us for more than three seasons since Toohey's, 95-98.

Great to see some real stability in the club and faith shown by other well known brands.

It's especially nice to have an already recognisable brand sticking with us (that's not a betting or booze company). Good on Jeld-Wen, Linen House, etc. but I had no idea who they were beforehand.

It certainly is a great sign........I always grab a Dare if I'm in Coles or Woolies....stuff the sugar content....it tastes great!!!!

As you mentioned above George.......was the Tooheys connection one continual contract thru 93-98?

I remember being at a club function late in the 2014 season and Matt Finnis got up and said that no sponsor had ever renewed their initial sponsorship contract term after the existing one had expired.....I was gobsmacked at that and thought surely that can't be right.

We had Toohey's from 93-97 and then in 1998 we had Toohey's Victoria...same company just slightly different.

Thanks for that George........I was with some Relos and some of their friends last Sunday......footy sponsorship came up.........I said the Saints were sponsored by Snowdeli in the early to mid 80's.....or there abouts.

Everyone looked at me with a "your making this up" look on their faces...lol.

Does the McCartin connection still apply with Lion Nathan , think it’s been win / win actually their profile lifted
significantly too .

Gears can't drive for shit!

That is hilarious!!
Gears' thoughts on JB and Sincs ( private school boys) and Billy and allowing Paddy to babysit his impending baby are so funny. Not to mention the Robbo " cricket incident."
The best so far.

Sponsors should fall over each other to want to sponsor this great club. Our supporters are extremely loyal and generally speaking , a bit better off than your average club supporter. We are the type of people that might get a Jeld-Wen product for our house , or knock back a Dare Iced Coffee. We could fly Emirates or drive a Hyundai or a Ford. I cannot see too many Collingwood supporters flying Emirates , nor can I see too many Carlton supporters buying Hyundais , and its no wonder Career One struggled sponsoring Carlton. (Another poorly directed sponsorship). It would be nice for the club to land a big fish , even if it means we target someone first , who has a track record of getting them.

Unlikely survivor setting Saints on finals path

  • Peter Ryan
In the blink of an eye Sam Gilbert became the oldest player on the Saints' list and the only player at St Kilda who played in the 2009 and 2010 grand finals.

In some ways Gilbert is an unlikely final survivor from that era.

He has been pleasantly surprised at how rewarding passing on your knowledge can be, particularly when teammates are receptive.

"We have got a group that are really willing to learn and ask a lot of questions and have a desire to succeed in football," he said. "With an older player that makes that conversation a lot easier because you can see the work they put in."

Not that he's in his teammates' face relaying his experiences.

But his advice is valuable as he has seen some action since he arrived in 2005, playing in 11 finals and under four coaches in his 12 seasons. At that point in his career, Gilbert was a flanker with great endurance, but in 2018 he can play anywhere and everywhere, including as a back-up ruckman.

Gilbert and his teammates are enjoying being at Geelong Grammar on this week's training camp.

"As you get older [pre-season] doesn't become a burden," he said. "It becomes a bit more enjoyable, you start enjoying the hard work because you know what it is for."

It is for a shot at finals, something Gilbert knows is possible. "Our best is good enough," Gilbert said.

I often think of that happening DGontheQT......it would be fantastic......the old saying "Success breeds success" comes into play here.........if we start becoming a top 4 club or even snag a flag in the coming years,I have no doubt the "big fish" sponsors will come.

Aside from RSEA....it will be interesting to see who jumps on once Moorabbin is completed...........I think Moorabbin is still the largest small business area in Australia.

If our marketing people get it right.....the scope for new business once we're at Moorabbin is absolutely enormous.

I go past Audi Brighton(it's really Moorabbin.....lol) 2-3 times a week....I nearly start crying when thinking about just how close we were to snagging them as a main sponsor.

No.
Hugall and Hoyle.
Irrigation equipment supplies.
If only for the irony of Stewie leaving the sprinklers running all night prior to a home game at Moorabbin.
Gilbeys Gin.
