Waste of time trading Paddy you would be lucky to get get a higher 4th rounder for him , one more knock in the head and he is finished, keep him and lets see if he improve , but make sure they develop him at Sandy not in the Seniors - Bruce , Membery and Battle will do the job up forward for us with Marshall helping at times - with Gresham , Long and Billings in the forward line feeding these guys it will make them look a million dollars

Yep, best to keep Paddy. The kid needs a whopper of a pre-season to pull it together, but I'm still of the opinion ( and that's all it is) that he'll come good. If his body can get within the vicinity of his footy smarts then we will have a very good player on our list. He needs to pull it together though. The gentle, gentle approach is over.

Funny thing is I've said it numerous times that he should have played at least half a season at Sandy.

Even funnier was that this time last year, this place was melting because he was apparently a flight risk if he didn't get a run in the seniors.

People even paying out on Roo because he didn't retire.

Take the Freeman narrative and substitute names.

There lies the problem , too many whoppers

Probably dreaming but would love to see a couple of trades like this:

In: Beams, Pick 39 Out: 2019 1st rounder
In: Hannebery Out: 2019 3rd rounder

Would make our team look so much better and still keep pick 4 or so this year as well as getting back into 3rd round in 2018.
Severely weakens 2019 but ah well :)

I don't think we are in a position to give up a first rounder for a 29 year old.

Hannebery is interesting as he might be cheap due to Sydney getting him off the books. Third rounder might be pushing it though.

I would take Hanners and McVeigh for peppercorn rent. Take all their contract $$, give McVeigh $50k more and tell him he is being groomed ad an assistant.

See if Hanners can get his body right and then renegotiate his contract to a view upwards.
As Hanners is injured, sort of rotate those two in 2019 so they don't take a young mids spot.

Could be this decades Dempstet and Schnieds trade from Sydney although a bit older

Trade out Dunstan or Ross, bring in Mitchell,Lenny, and Harvey as assistants.

Use our first pick on Walsh, Smith or at a stretch Rozee.

How does our mid field and assistance experience stack up next season compared to this?

It's funny but we talk about the 2014 draft as being terrible for us, which is probably the case, but the last few weeks make it look less bad.

McKenzie has strung 9 games together and is starting to show something.

Lonie just had his best game for the club and has started to look alright.

Goddard hasn't played but is actually starting to build some form in the VFL and has been named in the bests a few times. He has been injured for 2 years so just getting consistent games into him is great and I hope to see him get a senior game this year.

Paddy has played the most senior games in a season. Still doubtful but at least he looks less like he will be forced to retire from concussion. He has looked decent but really needs to take a leap in the offseason. I hope we see him in the last couple of rounds which would push his games tally up to 15 which while not great, might be enough to build some momentum.

Sinclair has recaptured a bit of his form from last year and looks all class, while Steele who we traded in from this draft could be our best inside mid by far.

Altogether, i still have a little bit of hope for this draft class. It will be interesting to see if Lonie/Goddard are retained and whether Paddy can start to deliver a bit more.

I guess the real pain from that draft is that Petracca and Brayshaw (pick 2-3) are starting to dominate. Hopefully next year is the year Paddy finally puts it all together. Loving the look of DMac.

Yeah pretty frustrating! Brayshaw is a stud.

I guess my thought was that it looked like at one stage we weren't going to get any best 22 players from the main draft despite having picks 1, 21, 22 and 41.

At least as the season has gone on you could make a case that each of Lonie, Goddard, McKenzie or Paddy ends up being a best 22 player. Unlikely that they all do but i'm much more optimistic then i was.

In particular excited by Goddard. I thought he was gone but seeing some of his VFL highlights recently it looks like he is starting to take some marks again and build some confidence and form. Hearing Hamil say that his 1-1 work has improved out of sight has got me a bit hopeful again.

Problem with us is that we really need at least one player from each of our previous 5 drafts to become an elite star over the next 2-3 years to get anywhere.

2013 - it should be Billings, but hes gone backwards at a ridiculous rate
2014 - it should be Paddy, but the head knocks have delayed his development. At the moment, its looking more like either Sincs (rookie list) or Steele (traded in) are the only ones who look like having elite qualities
2015 - god bless the Gresh
2016 - I really feel Battle is the man here. He & Longy will give teams headaches for a decade
2017 - either of Clark or Coff look like great prospects, but need to be developed properly

Might as well lock us all up in a padded cell and throw away the key in that case...
I wrote that from my cell. My lovely wife smuggled in an ipad just so I could post that pick.

They gave me another 22 years on my sentence, which should get me out just in time for our finals..

Some interesting notes on Shiel if he does decide to leave (is contracted for next year, but rumours always exist).
25 years old, we have had previous interest.

His TOG numbers are pretty odd. Went from 78% tog in his first year to 79%, 79%, 80% then the last 3 years when he hasn't been injured have been 74% 74% 77%.

Wonder if GWS decided to lower his game time to prevent injury?

If a club can push his 75% game time up to an 85% he will be a 30+ every week player. Just the sort of thing we need really

It amuses me to see posters calling for us to pick up Hannaberry and Mcveigh for their experience, and at the same time are calling for us to trade or delist Armo, our most experienced mid. Makes no sense to me.

GWS are in a interesting position with so many stars coming off contract or FA's in 2019 , surely they get rid of a couple to try and secure a Max King type to bolster there forward line because they need it.

Adam Tomlinson 8 Restricted Free Agent
Brent Daniels 2 Non-Free Agent
Brett Deledio 3 Non-Free Agent
Daniel Lloyd 4 Non-Free Agent
Dylan Shiel 8 Restricted Free Agent
Harrison Himmelberg 4 Non-Free Agent
Jacob Hopper 4 Non-Free Agent
Joshua Kelly 6 Non-Free Agent
Matthew Buntine 8 Restricted Free Agent

Matthew De Boer 3 Non-Free Agent
Matthew Flynn 4 Non-Free Agent
Nick Haynes 8 Restricted Free Agent
Rory Lobb 6 Non-Free Agent

Sam Taylor 2 Non-Free Agent
Stephen Coniglio 8 Restricted Free Agent

Pretty sure GWS is getting a bit nervous that they may see a few of the stars leaving.

I don''t think the same posters are calling for both...

plus, there's a fair gulf between Armo and Hanners/McVeigh. 3 time AA, AFLCA player of the year, Rising Star Winner - Premiership Captain, 5 years skipper, 2 x Bob Skilton Medalist, 1 x AA...

We absolutely need this. Right now so many players have got to C+ or or even B level and plateaued

. Billings, Bruce, Dunstan, Lonie..just to name 4 blokes who on the back of really good 1st or 2nd seasons gave us hope of a genuine star. All 4 stopped dead in the water. If Battle, Coff, Clark etc suffer a similar fate we are screwed.

Because both are better, premiership players and come from a winning culture.
