Sure at the end of the day it's up to the individual to do the work but you absolutely can be motivated by a quality leader or mentor. I don't buy that Ryan is only where he is now because of not being drafted. Who's to say he wouldn't have been similarly motivated by being in a full time professional environment with people dedicated to watching over his health and welfare.
As for looking to kick the club, only when they do something I disagree with. It just happens that lately they've been doing plenty I disagree with, particularly from a recruitment point of view.

Well I guess we will never know what would have happened had he been recruited earlier, so is there any point harping on about it? Club cannot answer that, so what are you looking to achieve? No one drafted him. Not just our club. No one. He wasn’t exactly hidden away. We don’t have more recruiters here than anyone else (I don’t think so anyway). He was in plain sight and ALL clubs said no thanks.

And yet, significance of that does not compute to some.

Bit from column a - bit from column b

Ive personally been inspired - at a job i was going through the motions in - had a leader come in and took all of us along for the ride.

Was fantastic - incredible leadership - he moved on and it went back to where it was.

So what u r saying, unless u can motivate yourself, it’s not going to work out long term?

The conversation is only continuing because you keep continuing it. 16 teams would have been worried about the go home factor I'd say. 18 teams also overlooked Banfield and Tim Kelly the year before and they look pretty good this year. Does that mean it was the right decision not to draft them in 2016 just because everyone else overlooked them?

What about the 17th team who decided Taylin Duman and Luke Strnadica (who?) were better options than this clear selection?

Tim Kelly was a run of the mill WAFL midfielder prior to 2017.

Wish we'd taken Banfield over Gorter though, hard to justify that one.

I wholeheartedly believe if we took him as a rookie in 2016 he would be playing AFL in 2017 or this season.

People believe in fairies. Doesn’t mean they exist.

Love people who come up with hypotheticals that can’t be proven and deliver them as facts.

Recruiters drafting duds is one thing but judging them on ifs and hypotheticals is another.

I wholeheartedly believe that if I'd been drafted and developed in a professional environment I'd be a Brownlow Medalist, and not an un-coordinated couch potato who can't kick off either foot and struggles for breath at the top of a flight of stairs.

Yes it kind of does. It’s not an exact science. Also kelly was overlooked how many times? He is 24 soon.

Carrying kelly is no different to still having Murray Newman on list. How many of those can you afford on list, waiting and waiting and waiting? How often do they blossom? Rookie selection is still 2 yrs max.

Bailey banfield would add zilch apart from depth. That is true, I don’t see anything that he has that would dislodge our main mids.

Or spend your career with that motivator ....

One thing motivating to shuffle paper all day. Another thing to motivate someone to run all day till u throw up. Unless u did that?

So what you're saying... is that taking Ryan as a rookie or late pick in 2016 was "too risky?" That about right? And that it's justified because the other clubs overlooked him as well?

But taking Ryan Burrows isn't?

Good point but we don't want to talk about it .

Cue Danny Whitten / Rod Stewart

Can you not see the difference between (a) taking a punt on a guy that wouldn't have been on anyone's radar and (b) taking a punt on a guy that would have been on everyone's radar but no one else would touch?

I reckon you'd at least be able to make it up the stairs (not that I'm any better).

My point was, that saying because every other team overlooked a player we were right to also overlook that player, isn't a valid argument imo.
