If I haven’t misunderstood it, it’s basically an 18m goalsquare
Man on the mark now stands 19m out
You don’t need to kick it to play on - so the actual goalsquare is made redundant (bet no one thought of that)
So you basically just get a free kick with the mark 19 out.

Just set up 2 players in each pocket to stop the kick-out players run.We now have a basketball style return the ball into play system from a behind. A fast player can get the ball and just sprint 15 meters then kick another 50. Our lock the ball in the 50 strategy just took a giant hit.
Was just thinking the same thing, in a tight game with less than a minute to go, your ruckman can just grab the ball and get tackled, ball up rinse and repeat to the siren, watch the clubs go to town on these tweaks and the AFL crack the shits as the clubs are exploiting the rules to stop oppo's scoring instead of using the rules to have an end to end bore fest.Holy ****.
I just realised they've basically made it rugby.
The rucks no longer being called for no prior opportunity means a ruckman can just grab the ball and force another ball up...
...All Day Long.
Can see shit teams like Carlton implementing this tactic to force a rugby-like movement towards their goal.
It actually increases congestion.
For **** sakes AFL.
Not really and here is why and it's to our favour, we set up a bit further back thus reducing the team kicking in to be able to go coast to coast or get out over the back, what it also does is open up your forward 50 and if you have a couple of real mobile gun forwards who can use this space to their advantage then your going to have days out....hi Jack hi Tom.We now have a basketball style return the ball into play system from a behind. I think the ruck can still be pinged for HTB or incorrect disposal.....it's just if he grabs the ball and it gets knocked loose then he's not deemed as having prior opportunity. Was just thinking the same thing, in a tight game with less than a minute to go, your ruckman can just grab the ball and get tackled, ball up rinse and repeat to the siren, watch the clubs go to town on these tweaks and the AFL crack the shits as the clubs are exploiting the rules to stop oppo's scoring instead of using the rules to have an end to end bore fest.

Nope, he can grab it and not get pinged, with heaps of players around the contest all he has show is he is trying to get rid of it and ball up.I think the ruck can still be pinged for HTB or incorrect disposal.....it's just if he grabs the ball and it gets knocked loose then he's not deemed as having prior opportunity.
I could be wrong in my interpretation though, much the same as the Umps in round 1 next year![]()
This one worries me a bit.....Umps already have difficulty interpreting the rules, how much difference is there between 'protecting your space' and a 'push in the back'Oh and Dusty one out with hands in the back being relaxed.
Just watched the Hocking interview on the AFL site and he stated that the HTB rule will be the same as in general playNope, he can grab it and not get pinged, with heaps of players around the contest all he has show is he is trying to get rid of it and ball up.
Just had a read and it's to position yourself, but still all a back has to do is lop forward and umpire is going to think it's a shove, watch how many dive now if they have mis-read the flight of the ball. Got disaster written all over it, watch Jack or Tom get done in round 1 for a shove when replays show the complete opposite. This one worries me a bit.....Umps already have difficulty interpreting the rules, how much difference is there between 'protecting your space' and a 'push in the back'
Too grey for my liking
So it's the same as grabbing out of the ruck and getting tackled like now, FMD these idiots are ****ed in the head.Just watched the Hocking interview on the AFL site and he stated that the HTB rule will be the same as in general play
